DNP Google adds AMBER Alerts for missing Children to Search and Maps

In partnership with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), Google announced on Wednesday that it has added AMBER Alerts to its Search and Maps services for desktop and mobile devices. AMBER Alert notifications will be displayed for your local area or locations based off of web search content. Alerts will be updated as information becomes available, but may include case details such as a description of the abducted child and the make and model of their alleged abductor's vehicle. While this service is only available in the US, Google is working with Missing Children Europe and the Canadian Centre for Child Protection in hopes of bringing similar services to more countries.

Kia Unveils Four New Justice League Superhero Themed Vehicles

A few weeks back we mentioned a customized Kia Optima SX Limited done in partnership between Kia and DC Entertainment in a Batman theme. I don’t think a billionaire/playboy/superhero would be seen cruising around in a Kia personally. Still the Batman car was pretty cool.

Kia has now unveiled four more super hero themed customized cars at SEMA 2012. The other four cars are styled after other core members of the Justice League include the Flash Forte Koup, Aquaman Rio 5-door, Cyborg Forte 5-door, and Green Lantern Soul. All four of the new cars have customized exteriors with cues from the superheroes outfits as well as customized interiors.

Most of the cars were done in cooperation with West Coast Customs, with help from RIDES and Super Street for others. All five customized superhero vehicles are on display in Las Vegas right now. I guess this will reveal my comic book ineptitude – but I’ve never even heard of Cyborg. I hear there’s a Wonder Woman car somewhere in that picture parked next to her jet. I can totally imagine Doctor Sheldon Cooper cruising the streets in the Flash Forte Koupe, even though he doesn’t like to drive.

GreatCall Wireless simplifies smartphones with the Jitterbug Touch for $169

Senior friendly feature phone maker GreatCall Wireless announced the availability of its first smartphone, the Jitterbug Touch, on Wednesday. Based off of Sprint's Kyocera Milano, this below entry-level device sports a full slide-out keyboard with large buttons, a 3-inch QVGA 240 x 320 display, 512MB of RAM, a 3.2-megapixel camera, 512MB of internal storage, a pre-loaded 2GB microSD card and a copy of Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) -- old by most standards, but pretty impressive for a phone aimed at the elderly. Regularly priced at $169 off contract, GreatCall is offering the Jitterbug Touch for a thrifty $149 for a limited time. While this handset's specs may not rival that quad-core beast that you've been eyeing, it may be ideal for someone looking to cut their teeth in the fast paced world of smartphones.

Pornkins Are NSFP (Not Safe For Porch)

Because sexy Sesame Street Halloween costumes weren’t enough to ruin all of our good clean Halloween fun, there’s Pornkins, the adult pumpkin carving kit. The kit includes carving tools and 10 stencils that would make even the wickedest witches turn from green to red. The sexual stencils include designs like “two can tango,” “cowboy up” and a bunch of others I’m far too shy to name. If this is the type of thing that jack-o’s your lantern, just remember that you should probably keep your pornkins inside where they can’t offend anyone everyone.

Google Play carrier billing goes live for impulse buyers on Verizon

Google Play carrier billing goes live for impulse buyers on Verizon

Google gave the broadest of targets when it said Google Play carrier billing would reach Verizon in the "coming weeks" -- those last two words are often hints from companies that we shouldn't hold our breath. Call us surprised, then, when Google quietly takes the option live two weeks later. At least one Droid-Life reader has discovered that it's now possible to load as many as $25 in purchases per month on an existing Big Red smartphone bill and pay through just the one channel. The move puts all four major US carriers on the same page, and gives Verizon subscribers an incentive to splurge on apps and movies for that new Droid RAZR HD... so long as they remember to deal with the financial fallout afterwards.

GoPro HERO3 Camera Now Available

About a week and a half ago we talked about the official unveiling of the awesome new GoPro HERO3 action camera. The camera was up for pre-order when we mentioned it last time with an estimated ship date to be somewhere around the middle of November. GoPro has now announced that the camera was now officially available for purchase in its three main versions.

The HERO3: Silver Edition is available right now and has all the same features as the HD HERO2 it replaces – and more – including 11 megapixel still photo capability, up to 1080p HD resolution video, and adds integrated Wi-Fi. This camera sells for $299.99. The HERO3: White Edition offers five-megapixel picture resolution, up to full HD video recording, and has integrated Wi-Fi for $199.99. This camera is a direct replacement of the original HD Hero. As with all GoPro cameras, there is a vast array of mounts available to suit just about every recording need.

The top-of-the-line HERO3: Black Edition ships starting on November 14th for $399.99(USD) and includes the Wi-Fi Remote accessory that normally sells for $79.99. That remote accessory allows you to turn on the camera and start recording even if the camera located too far away from you to reach physically. That is a big deal if you use one of these cameras for motorsports where deeply bolstered seats and racing harnesses make movement very difficult within the vehicle. The HERO3′s resolution is pretty incredible, with full 1080p/60 and even a 4k mode (only 15fps, though.)

All these new features make my original HD HERO look pretty lame.

Gaming Luggage Labels: Remembrance from Your Trips to Places that Don’t Exist

There are many reasons why people play videogames, but one of the most common motivations is the opportunity to escape from the realities of life and have a grand adventure. Illustrator A.J. Hateley came up with these videogame-themed luggage labels to celebrate our virtual journeys.

The stickers reference locations from some of the most popular videogames, from Pokémon to Fallout: New Vegas. Looking at each of them will surely flood your brain with memories of your digital trips.

That Fallout California sticker is the bomb, but nostalgia dictates that the Midgar one be my favorite. You can order the stickers from Red Bubble for $2.30 (USD) each. Buy 6 stickers and you’ll get a 50% discount.

Samsung Galaxy Note II Smart Dock turns a big phone into an even bigger desktop

Samsung Galaxy Note II Smart Dock turns a big phone into an even bigger desktop

Many of us would already contend that the Galaxy Note II is more of a pocketable computer than a smartphone, so why not take the definition at face value? Samsung certainly is, as it just began selling a Smart Dock that transforms its phablet into a makeshift desktop. A trio of USB ports give the Note II options for a mouse, keyboard and even external storage -- and if the phone's 5.5-inch screen isn't already a large enough canvas, HDMI video (plus stereo audio out) should fill the gap. While there's no question that the Smart Dock's $100 price is relatively steep, it might be worthwhile for those still mourning the loss of Webtop.

Star Wars Leggings, Swimsuits & Dresses

What could possibly be sexier than Yoda’s wrinkly mug worn across your chest? I’ll tell you what — a dress rocking Steve Buscemi’s big ole head. But this isn’t about Steve, this is about Star Wars. It’s also NOT about the franchise being bought by Disney. This is about the clothes. Black Milk Clothing Company is back with a series of Star Wars themed leggings, swimsuits, and mini dresses. They’ve got stuff with Vader, Boba Fett, an Ewok, R2D2 and C3PO to name a few. Pshhh, seriously? C3PO? I bet those things are gonna sell like hotcakes. *eyeroll* Ain’t nobody gonna go home with the girl wearing C3PO on her clothes. TRUTH.
