Reminisce Your Childhood Crafting Memories With This Night Lamp

Childhood memories often have the power to transport us back to a simpler, more innocent time, when life was full of wonder and curiosity. One particular memory that many of us share is the joy of crafting paper cones, transforming a simple sheet into a fascinating geometric form. The Handmaid Table Lamp or Night Light captures the essence of this cherished childhood pastime and transforms it into a practical and aesthetically pleasing household item.

At first glance, this lamp conjures up images of those paper cones we used to craft as children. With two cones curled up at different angles and gracefully stacked, the lamp takes on a unique form that reminds us of a Japanese monk. This resemblance adds a layer of cultural and artistic significance to this otherwise simple yet striking design.

The Handmaid Table Lamp is not just an eye-catching decor piece; it’s also a fun DIY project waiting to happen. Its assembly is a breeze, taking just a few seconds to complete. The clever clip-on mechanism makes folding and assembling the lamp a straightforward task. This ingenious design encourages users to engage with the product on a more personal level, fostering a sense of connection and ownership.

What sets this lamp apart is the cleverly designed “hat of the monk,” which serves as the lampshade. This unique feature allows for precision lighting as the angle of the “hat” is perfect for casting light over a larger surface area. Whether you’re working on a task or need a cozy ambiance in the room, the Handmaid Table Lamp can adapt to your lighting needs with ease.

The choice of translucent materials for the lampshade is a thoughtful design element. This quality not only allows the lamp to function as a task light but also transforms it into an ambient light source. When illuminated, the soft glow it emits creates a warm and inviting atmosphere, perfect for relaxing or setting the mood in any room.

The Handmaid Table Lamp’s minimalistic design makes it a versatile addition to any room in your home. However, its charming and playful appearance makes it particularly well-suited for children’s rooms. Placed on study tables or bedside tables, it can act as a source of inspiration for young minds. Its unique design encourages creativity and imagination, reminding children of the simple joys of crafting and play.

In conclusion, the Handmaid Table Lamp is more than just a source of illumination; it’s a delightful blend of childhood nostalgia, artful design, and practicality. Its ease of assembly and versatile functionality make it an ideal addition to your home, while its clever design evokes memories of crafting paper cones in your younger days. This lamp is a testament to the idea that everyday objects can bring a touch of whimsy and wonder into our lives, making our homes more inviting and our memories all the more precious.

This shapeshifting TV turns into a virtual fireplace when you’re not binge-watching Squid Games on Netflix

A winner of the Red Dot Design Concept Award, the 77W isn’t a television, but rather a versatile display that can alter itself based on need. For long, televisions have been just ugly black rectangles on walls when they’re switched off, making them rather unappealing to look at 90% of the time. LG’s attempted at solving this problem with their rollable TV, and even Samsung’s tried to address this with their Serif TVs as well as the ‘Ambient Mode’ on their QLED TVs that allowed the television to blend into the background. While the Ambient Mode was a fairly technical feature that required AI to be able to guess what the wall behind it looked like (and LG’s rollable display is just downright expensive), the folks at Skyworth have figured out a rather nifty way to turn the television into an ambient little decor-piece when not in use.

The 77W’s display unit sits on a stone-textured base, and comes with a wooden sleeve that can move up or down (as can the display itself). This allows the TV to assume 3 modes – a TV mode, a concealed mode, and a fireplace mode. The concealed mode allows the display to descend downwards into the wooden sleeve, hiding most of that black box behind a textured wooden panel… but the other two modes allow the 77W to truly shine… either as a high-definition television for watching news, videos, sports, and entertainment content, or as a fireplace that peeks from below the wooden panel, playing a looped high-definition video of burning logs and crackling flames.

What the 77W really does is turn the TV into less of an attention-commanding gadget and more into an ambient piece of technology that fits into homes – just like your smart speakers are designed to blend right into your interiors. The wood and stone aesthetic is relatively minimalist and works well with Scandinavian and Nordic-style of decor, and should really sit well around stone walls or wooden flooring. If you’ve got an inactive or faux fireplace in your apartment to begin with, putting the 77W TV right in front of it could really spruce your place up (and give you a reason to have your furniture facing the fireplace to begin with!)

The 77W Art Display Device is a winner of the Red Dot Design Concept Award for the year 2021.

This ambient LED lamp brings the spectacular gradients of sunsets into your home

The Arki light plays a fundamentally important role in interior design… far more than what most lamps are designed to be capable of. Most lights are only designed to brighten spaces, not recolor them, but the Arki takes it upon itself to change its surroundings with light, rather than just illuminating them. You see, space plays a fundamental role in design. It’s important for the human eye to see a balance between foreground and background, and while most products in your space play the role of the foreground, your background is almost always left entirely bare, with just the wall color doing its fair share. Arki changes that by decorating your space in a wash of brilliant gradients, making your indoors look as beautiful as the outdoors.

Designed to look like a modern-day chandelier, the Arki comes with four rotating discs with colorful LEDs fitted in. Set the scene using the Arki app and the lamp comes to life, with the discs rotating and moving up and down to wash your walls and ceilings with vibrant hues. The Arki basically uses outdoor settings as cues, so you could turn your favorite sunset into a lighting preset, or even that magical sunrise from your last holiday. The app turns your photos and videos into a 360° panorama and extracts its palette. The lighting discs then orient themselves and illuminate to recreate the magic in your interiors, coloring them with the same hues so you can appreciate the glorious beauty of outdoor gradients in your indoor spaces… because life’s too fleeting to stare at white walls, isn’t it?

The SETTO lamp uses a rotating lampshade to adjust its lighting

The Setto comes with a usual design and an unusual user experience. The lamp’s spherical design is courtesy a rotating lampshade that lets you adjust the intensity of the lighting. The sphere is divided into two hemispheres… one smooth, and the other with a folded origami-styled design. Rotate the shade to face the smooth surface downwards and you get a much more focused beam of light that’s great to read or write under. Swivel to make the patterned side face downwards and you get a scattered aura that bathes the room in ambient an lighting that’s great for movies, conversation, or a casual dinner!

Insert Coin: Lightpack turns your computer display into an ambient backlight (video)

Insert Coin Lightpack turns any display into an ambient backlight

While Philips did eventually bring its Ambilight technology to PC monitors, it wasn't before others had decided to roll their own. Now you can add ambient backlighting to any computer display without any of the attendant soldering and Arduino-wrangling, thanks to the folks at Woodenshark. The team has built Lightpack, an Ambilight-esque system that'll connect to a Windows, OS X or Linux PC and project the display's colors onto the area surrounding the screen.

Plug the hockey puck-sized device into your computer, attach 10 LED modules to the back of your display and install the open-source software and you're good to go. Once ready, you can even set up custom alerts to measure CPU temperature or email volumes, and even control the lighting with your smartphone or tablet. The team has asked for the unusually specific figure of $261,962 in order to fund an initial production run of 5,000 units, with early backers able to snag one of the units for $50 instead of around $90. Interested to watch it in action? There's a video after the break, friends.
