This delicately designed ceiling light looks like it’s floating in mid-air

Sandwiched between two metal structures that measure a whopping 10 feet when combined, the Aria is a lighting solution that puts emphasis on the term ‘light’. It looks almost like it’s floating in mid-air, with the three light spheres suspended between the metal structures almost like they’re frozen in time. There’s immense visual tension in the light because you expect the glowing orbs to roll around on their metal rails… but that visual tension is left unresolved, and that’s what makes Aria so interesting!

Designer: Gabriela Saadia

A winner of the Red Dot Design Concept Award, Aria combines lighting with the delicate beauty of visual imbalance. The lighting solution, designed to look minimal yet expressive, comes with three glowing orbs held in place by two curved metal structures. The orbs stay suspended in the middle, balancing out the structure both visually and by weight, and the lack of any perceivable electrical wires leading directly to the lights really make it fascinating to people who observe it!

“Aria is made of a 1-inch rolled steel tube that is powder-coated in copper and three white acrylic sphere diffusers. Its construction magic is imperceptible to the naked eye — everything happens inside the acrylic spheres”, designer Gabriela Saadia told Yanko Design. The same structure that holds the lamp together also holds the light source, which consists of three LED lightbulbs. The entire structure remains suspended by two metal cables, and can be adjusted to any size or even easily disassembled for transportation.

The Aria combines NASA-inspired Purifier and Planter into minimal and functional home decor

Designed to give you the best of two incredibly capable worlds, the Aria is a nifty hybrid purifier that uses NASA-inspired purification technology along with the world’s oldest and most effective purification system – nature. Styled as a vertical planter, the Aria functions almost like a chimney, pulling air from the bottom and passing it through multiple filters, a UV chamber, and finally through the soil of a plant that uses phytoremediation to destroy any toxins and contaminants. The result? Purified air, obviously, but also an appliance that’s advanced enough to keep you healthy yet aesthetic enough to fit beautifully into your home’s decor.

The hybrid purifier’s sleek cylindrical design, although minimal, is also an effect of its function. The air travels from the base upwards, passing finally through a plant that serves as decorative greenery as well as a natural purifier. The air first travels through 3 mechanical filters (nylon, HEPA, and activated carbon), before making it into Aria’s UV chamber that neutralizes any harmful microorganisms, and finally an ionizer, which destroys VOCs and odors to produce fresh smelling air. In its final journey, the air makes its way through Aria’s ‘air booster’ which pushes wind through the base of the planter, allowing it to be further purified by the roots of your plant. The roots use an age-old natural process known as bio-remediation that remove, transfer, stabilize, and/or destroy contaminants in the soil, turning them into nutrients for the plant. Fresh, forest-like air makes its way out the sides of the Aria, filling your room with air as clean as the outdoors!

The Aria’s design and user-experience are clearly separated into two parts – the purifier, and the plant. The mechanical purifier itself exists in the lower half of the cylindrical appliance, which also sports a circular touchscreen display that gives you all the information you need – like your air quality, room temperature, humidity, etc. thanks to data fed to the device via its intelligent sensors. Alternatively, you can use Aria’s own app to operate your device, or even control it via the voice assistant on your phone or smart speaker. The upper half houses the plant along with a water-reservoir that automatically hydrates the soil so you don’t have to. Aside from Aria’s own app, you even have the option of using Tuya, a companion app that helps you choose the best plant for your Aria and your home. The Tuya app offers up to 40 different plant options that go well with the Aria based on their different purifying properties (although you can use pretty much any house-plant with your Aria). The app showcases plant ratings, the differences between each plant, and which ones are best for combating specific germs, allergens, toxins, and pollution. Together, the plant and purifier can collectively clean 325 square feet of air, making a single Aria perfect for the average living room or bedroom. You can place the Aria anywhere you’d keep a floor-standing planter, and the hybrid device doesn’t just visually enhance your space, it enhances the air you breathe too!

Aria – NASA Inspired Hybrid Air Purifier

The Aria is a Hybrid Air Purifier system that uses plants & air booster to detect and eliminate 99% of all indoor air pollutants while blending in with any interior.

The team was inspired by NASA’s report about the natural power of a plant’s roots, so using their own knowledge, they developed exclusive patent-pending hybrid technology for air purification.

Aria’s design approach is simple and clean. Highlighting the plant’s beauty so it blends in with the design of your space.

How Aria Works

Aria features classical mechanical air purifier tech that works in tandem with the plant’s natural filtering abilities to fight pollution, disease, and toxins.

Polluted air passes through the all-in-one ionizer, HEPA and activated carbon filter. Then, it is hit by UV light which is pulled by Aria’s turbine system.

The air then travels upward into the patent-pending air booster, invented to increase the amount of air to the plant’s root for filtering.

Smart Monitoring via the App

Aria uses multiple intelligent sensors to continuously monitor your environment. Information such as temperature, air humidity, air pollution, and graphs with history reports will be sent to your smartphone app.

Aria displays your air quality right on the touchpad display. The planter is compatible with Alexa and Google Assitant.

How to Set Up and Care for Your Plants

The plant library gives you easy instructions on how to set up and care for your plants.

The app showcases plant ratings, the differences between each plant, and which one is best for combating specific viruses, bacteria, and pollution, just to name a few.

This portable medical device independently detects Malaria parasites, saving millions of lives!

Malaria; a word that quite literally fills dread through our veins. In 2017 approximately 660,000 people died due to it, and even today 40% of the world’s population is at the risk of it. Developing nations especially Sub-Saharan Africa are Malaria’s most affected victims, and these countries are the most ill-equipped to deal with it. The tests currently available to detect malaria are highly limited and not at all economical. Specialized testing instruments and highly trained medical staff are required to actually handle and judge blood samples. Unable to meet these requirements for the detection of Malaria, developing nations are rampant with it. Hence Detroit based product designer Minwoo Lee designed ‘Aria’.

Aria is a portable medical product created with the sole purpose of detecting malaria utilizing Infrared Light. Aria eradicates the need for medical specialists, expensive equipment and highly trained staff. It performs the functions of all. Lee chose infrared light as the hero of the day, because it can be used to detect the presence of Malaria causing parasites in the blood, and can even ascertain the number of parasites present. ‘Attenuated Total Reflection-Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy’ is a test that harnesses infrared light to detect parasites through the molecular vibrations they create. The light increases the amount of oxygen in the blood, in turn killing the viral, bacterial and fungal toxins in the blood.

Shaped like a capsule, Aria contains a smaller plastic capsule or a mini Aria that is used for the collection of blood. Simply smear the blood sample onto mini Aria and insert it into the larger capsule. The infrared light activates and a digital microscope examines the blood. The microscope provides details and observations, and this final result is then displayed on the screen. The images of the blood cells on the screen will help to determine whether they have been infected by Malaria or not.

The actual benefit and functionality of Aria are unparalleled. It is a game-changer for the medical field, enabling the quick and efficient detection of Malaria, allowing it to be treated in its early stage, and thereby saving the lives of millions. This is a concept that needs to be transformed into a tangible product pronto! Aria is not just a design concept, it’s a future lifesaver.

The Aria are Airpods you can use in the shower

It may seem like quite a closely contended match between different earbuds and the companies making them. Each of them have their own USPs. Some are compatible with all mobile platforms, others boast of incredible battery lives, and some work as fitness trackers that sit within your ears. Now, the Aria by xFyro, claims to be one of the world’s only truly wireless earphones with an IPx67 waterproof rating.

Let’s understand first what the IPx67 rating actually is. The IP Code, or the Ingress Protection Code determines the ability of a product (usually electronics) to protect itself from intrusion by elements from the outside, especially dust or water. The first digit in the rating determines protection against dust. A rating of 6 usually means the product is completely impervious to dust of all sizes. The second number in the rating determines liquid ingress. The 7 rating in the 67 means the Aria can withstand immersion in water up to 1 meter tested for a period of 30 minutes. The IPx67 rating on the Aria therefore allows it to be used while in the gym (it being impervious to sweat), in the shower, or even while swimming in a pool.

Aside from its water and dust resistance, the Aria leverages battery-related advancements over the past few years to provide a stunning 32 hours of playback time. The earbuds themselves work for 8 hours continuously (that’s the equivalent of 5+ movies or more than 160 songs), and the slick, hockey-puck case gives you an additional 24 hours of charging time. The Aria also comes with Bluetooth 5.0, the latest standard that allows for instant pairing by simply bringing the earphones near your smartphone. With crystal quality sound that’s unfettered, the Aria also has a capacitive touch surface that lets you control music playback as well as activate the voice assistant on your phone.

Designed to work across multiple mobile platforms, the Aria is, to frame things accurately, a slight upgrade in all departments. With a significantly better battery, better audio courtesy a 16mm driver (more than thrice as large as the Airpods), better waterproofing, and a universal approach, it may just be the wireless earphones to beat!
