Security fails we’re kinda thankful for

As we gather 'round the fire warming our facepalm-weary hands, the blaze burning bright with the shreds of our privacy and security, it's important to reflect on what we're grateful for. Companies that did the infosec version of stepping on a rake,...

This ATM design safely and beautifully integrates into wall panels

Yoo Eunsook’s idea for an ATM solves both aesthetic and functional problems. The aesthetic problem is that ATMs are usually clunky, bulky machines that sit outside shops or in ATM kiosks. This creates a visual eyesore while also leading to a functional problem. The fact that they can easily be robbed (although precautions are usually taken in place for such events, you really can’t stop someone from chaining a kiosk to a pickup and driving off).

Eunsook’s idea is to basically integrate ATM machines flush into walls. This way, they don’t crowd space on footpaths, and they also make it much harder to break into and steal. The ATM not only sits integrated into the wall, it also closes down, with a retracting keyboard panel, when not in use. The minute you decide to use the ATM, the keyboard panel extends outwards, and the screen recedes into the back, giving you privacy. When you’re done, the keypad slides back in and the screen extends outwards again, turning into a great canvas for advertisements.
