We’ve been seeing a torrential and exciting downpour of automotive designs at Yanko Design for the past few months. Each automotive was innovative, bringing to us something we had never seen nor experienced before. From killer speed to dashing good looks, to impenetrable safety standards, every automotive we featured at YD broke some design barrier for us, and hopefully, they did the same for you as well. Hence, we’ve curated a collection of automotive designs that we feel were the best of the lot. From a bicycle with square wheels to a Porsche e-motorbike concept – each of these drool-worthy automobiles is mercilessly pushing the boundaries of the automotive industry. Automotive enthusiasts will be itching to get their hands on them, and take them for a spin on the streets!

1. Ford Mini Bronco

The Ford Mini Bronco is designed by Mexico-based Kobayashi, and it provides a sneak peek into the year 2030 – the year this car is designed for. It features modern elements with a compact, two-door configuration, which reminds one of the Suzuki Jimny. The automotive attempts to redefine the off-road segment, by providing it with a unique perspective.

2. Gordieiev’s Bicycle with Square Wheels

Meet the bicycle with square wheels! Designed by Sergii Gordieiev, this innovative bicycle is like a war tank moving on its metal tracks without any wheels! The wheels on the bicycle don’t actually roll, but instead, the rubber on the conveyor belt-like platform rotates as soon as you hit your foot on the pedal. It is completely usable in a city, and you can take turns on it.

3. Mitsubishi DX Concept

Meet the Mitsubishi DX Concept. This is a compact yet versatile lifestyle van that perfectly portrays the company’s commitment to elevating the arena of adventure travel. It is called the “tiny adventure van”, and features a futuristic design. It was showcased at a Japan Mobility Show that focused on awakening the “adventurous spirit within”.

4. Lexus LF-ZC

Dubbed the Lexus LF-ZC, which stands for “Lexus Future Zero-emission Catalyst”, this four-door luxury car is a prototype for Lexus’ future cars. The automotive is equipped with a highly anticipated solid state ‘prismatic’ battery technology that will be showcased in Lexus’ cars by 2026. The battery will cover 1000 kilometers on a full charge.

5. Adventure Electric Unicycle

The Adventure electric unicycle was truly designed to push the boundaries of exploration! It features a beefy 4000 W motor capable of producing 200 Nm (147.5 lb. ft) of torque and 850 N traction force. This converts it into a powerful commuter that is ready to conquer steep inclines and uneven terrain with the utmost ease and efficiency! It accelerates from 0 to 50 km/h in just 2.5 seconds and goes at a top speed of 110 km/h.

6. Diode

Designed by Tien Hung, the Diode is an e-bike concept that features a neo-minimalist design that celebrates the future of electric power train. The form and design of the bike are almost invisible, except for one singular horizontal pillar that spans from the dashboard to the taillight. There is a large battery module located under the pillar.

7. MOQBA

The MOQBA is not simply a two-wheeled wonder, it rides on four independent legs with wheel extensions, so it can be called an electric mecha, or more accurately a mini mecha. MOQBA gets a conventional saddle which can morph into supporting seating when climbing up the stairs or moving ahead in the walking configuration – in its bike configuration.

8. Acro

Designed by Klissarov Design, the Acro is an ultralight aircraft that completely eliminates the need for a pilot’s license. The aircraft utilizes AI to provide assistance during operation, offering a harmonious, smooth, and safe flying experience. The use of AI is quite unique and useful, as it allows a large range of aviation enthusiasts to experience the thrill of piloting their own aircraft.

9. Porsche 619 Electric Concept

Designed by Jackson Zhang, the Porsche 619 electric concept is an exciting response to Porsche’s plans to go electric by 2030. The 619 is the first proper electric motorcycle we’ve seen, and it features a unique design, putting Porsche’s automotive DNA in the backseat, while also creating something that is minimalist, geometry-driven, and iconic!

10. Restorer NEV

The Restorer NEV is a chick four-wheeler with spacious interiors that can accommodate a family of four! It was revealed during the motorsports gathering at the Quail. The zero-emission urban ride is powered by a twin-electric motor drivetrain that is supported by pouch-cell lithium-ion batteries. This allows the NEV to reach a top speed of 25 mph!

Porsche-inspired automotive concepts that exhibit ingenious design, artistry and killer speed!

Companies like Porsche, Lamborghini, Bugatti have reached iconic status when it comes to luxury Automotives! Their cars are specimens of ingenious design backed by menacing speed. However, there’s something about the Porsche automobiles that gets my heart thumping just a little more. Porsche cars are high on utility, performance, speed, craftsmanship, and not to mention they even exhibit a level of artistry. Automobile fanatics and designers clammer at the release of a fresh and fierce Porsche design, and in the anticipation of one, they often find themselves inspired and engaged! The result is a plethora of innovative and jaw-dropping concept designs. And here we’ve collected the best of these Porsche-inspired concepts for you. You would love to actually see them on the road, I’m sure!

The Porsche Exclusive GT started as Zakharov’s MA Thesis project and gradually evolved into one of the most futuristic Porsche designs I’ve seen in a while. The Exclusive GT ups the aggression with its sinewy, muscular form that’s visible around the wheels with elevated fenders and rear quarter panels that almost make it look like the car’s crouching. Given that the car’s required to deliver a lifetime of peak performance, the Exclusive GT comes with exaggerated air intakes around the front that result in floating headlights… a detail that slightly resembles Porsche’s Mission E, but with a more dominating presence. The design extends to the back too, with a linear tail-light surrounded by a set of outlets for the air to pass through as the Exclusive GT cuts through time and space. The car sports a carbon-fiber body (you’ll notice the texture in the render right away), which probably indicates at a future where the composite material’s more widely present, along with rear-facing cameras for side mirrors, another future-friendly detail.

The Porsche 911 Bullfrog by Alexander Prime borrows from one of the largest, most dominating animals in the frog family. In fact, look carefully and its black front literally looks like a frog’s face. Designed as a prototype for the Le Mans 24 hour race, and to celebrate Porsche’s stunning record of being present at every Le Mans race ever held and dominating most of them, the 911 Bullfrog captures the essence of the brand while still retaining the ability to look muscular and menacing. “With its oval headlights, the new generation continued to reflect the traditional 911 design. The new 911 is the sum of its predecessors: The silhouette: iconic. The design: timeless. The technology: inspired by great racing victories”, says Alexander, the designer behind the 911 Bullfrog concept.

The 618 is a two-wheeled twist on the Porsche brand that takes direct inspiration from the 911 turbo. The result is an electric retro-modern power cruiser with a sporty silhouette that essentially looks like half a Porsche sportscar! Inspired by the flat-six architecture of the 911, the idea was to represent the flat and low center of gravity concept into the suspension and exterior design. The center hub steering concept was key in achieving the right balance between design surfaces and mechanical features. For instance, the heavy visual parts such as the directional components, front and rear arms, and even the spring configurations fall below the middle of the motorcycle. Additional features include a cool monocoque body with a Le Mans style door (where the tank would be) that opens to reveal a luggage compartment perfectly sized for storing a helmet and gloves, a sleek digital display, fan cooling, and folding footrests.

If you’re getting strong Eva (from Wall-E) vibes, you’re not the only one. The Porsche 907 Spyder Revival evokes that sort of feeling given the way it absolutely embraces clean surfaces along with the absence of color-segmentation, part-segmentation, and even the limited use of grilles and parting lines. The car’s appearance (which is an homage to the 907 Spyder racecar) is ghostly, with its incredibly sleek white surface that transitions seamlessly from bumper to spoiler, with barely a headlight or air intake breaking its overall surface. The headlights, in fact, come hidden beneath a white cover, which appears opaque externally, but allows light from the headlamps to pass through when powered on. The only discernible air intake can be found before the rear wheel, and the car, which comes with a single-seater open cockpit, doesn’t even have doors.

If the future of racing looks anything like this, I’m highly interested! This concept Porsche race car by Zhang Ningbo showcases a highly fluid design with a slight Daniel Simon touch to it. The electric car is for a future in which drivers won’t sit within the car, but outside, with remote controllers, operating the cars like drones. A render of the cockpit shows a pretty big 360° camera where the driver would normally sit. The cockpit remains fully covered to prevent the camera from getting damaged.

The iconic 911 Spyder is something of an automotive unicorn that hasn’t been replicated, the designers accurately call it a dreamlike beast. The 411 is a design project that aims at leveling up the design game for Porsche’s hypercar by blending the best of their timeless elements from the ‘50s – ’60s with the future. The headlights are aligned with the front wheels with a smoothly wrapped bodywork as a nod to the Porsche heritage. Distinctive design details like no body cut along the front and having all the air ducts are exposed actively play a role in the performance of the car. What sets the 411 apart from the existing hypercars is that it is designed with the goal of being a luxury highway cruiser, the driver should be able to enjoy the 400 kmph speed (well, if the rules allow it) outside the runway too when they invest in a Porsche.

Porsche loyalists often cringe at any design that veers too far away from the classic and iconic shape that’s gone largely unchanged over the years. While their attitude is “why mess with a good thing?”, designer Dong Hun Han aims to push the limits of the Porsche brand with an all-new design direction that feels more different than familiar. Called Cygnus, this low-slung supercar seems to occupy a larger footprint than the current line of compact roadsters. This wider stance is contrasted by smooth curvatures and a flowing silhouette that’s more demure than other sharp, cutting supercars like Lamborghini. Looking to the future, Han feels that this more subtle sportiness and soft yet powerful aesthetic will be adopted by many brands.

Created as an homage to his two favorite Porsche cars, the 935 and the 911, this is the Porsche 357, Clément Lacour’s pet project at making a Porsche that is viciously fast, yet has a certain sensuality. The car has the ability to depict speed and grace in a unique way. It uses organic forms to evoke feelings of elegance, but at the same time doesn’t let those organic curves dominate the design. The Porsche 357 is ultimately a flat, low-suspension car that looks like it could zip from A to B without you even knowing. It borrows from the 935’s aggressive front with incredibly low headlamps, and the extended lip on the rear, creating an aesthetic that’s emotive. The 357 seats one driver, and was designed purely for the thrill of riding a car that fully embodies Porsche’s wild spirit!

As you know, we love a far-out concept car more than anybody, however, it’s the realism of the Porsche 911 Mission E that we’re obsessing over. This exploration into an electric version of the 911, called the 911 Mission E, actually looks like something we might expect out of the Porsche house. While it mimics the frame and overall dimensions/shape of the classic 911, it also sports a few trends found in the e-automotive movement. Enclosed fenders, scoopless side panels, and a covered nose are all aesthetic changes you won’t find in any petrol vehicles. This seamless new look is equally sporty as well as functional in terms of aerodynamics. Other interesting design notes include seemingly opaque windows and headlights.

The Porsche 911E concept is quite a beauty to look at. Everything about it echoes grace and power at the same time. The concealed wheel design is reminiscent of the Rolls Royce Vision 100 concept we saw last year, and honestly, I prefer this look to the future where we have hub-less wheels. The butterfly doors are a wonderful addition to the automobile’s design, but I can’t seem to get my eyes off the retractable spoiler at the back, which disguises itself as an opening to the boot. Upon hitting high speeds, the flap automatically raises upwards, making the Porsche 911E look like quite the speed devil!

Innovative e-bike designs that are sure to shape the future of the automotive industry!

Electronic bikes have taken the automobile industry by storm! Living a more sustainable and conscious life has become imperative, especially with COVID-19 turning the world as we know it topsy-turvy. Curbing fuel consumption, and reducing automotive emissions has become critical, and e-bikes are an environment-friendly option, encouraging these practices. With the e-bike craze gaining momentum, designers have been coming up with innovative and super cool e-bike designs, and we’ve collected a few for you!

Designer Tanner Van De Veer in collaboration with DAAPworks has proposed a mid-weight Harley Davidson electric motorcycle, destined to revive the brand. The project goal is to bring a motorcycle to the streets which preserves the historical essence of the Harley design language while infusing contemporary trends. He calls it the “Harley Davidson Revival” and lends the bike an eco-conscious touch with the swappable electric battery pack. The electric powertrain of Revival will embody lightweight aesthetics, and yes, it will come sans any clutch or gears. Revival borrows its basic body structure design from the early designs of the motorcycle which shaped its destiny in the early years of development.

The 2029 e-bike brings art-deco and automotive design into the future, with its unusual combination of clean-cut geometric shapes brought about by sheet-metal fabrication, along with bone-inspired generative-design details 3D printed in metal. The bike is an amalgamation of styles that pays a hat-tip to the revolutionary design of the 1929 Majestic, built by George Roy.  The bike incorporates design-trends and technologies that are indicative of the future of automotive design. The stunning 2029 comes with an electric drivetrain, fully enclosed aluminum body, hub-centric steering, transparent PolyCarbonate wheels, and 3D printed bike parts, furnished out of Titanium.

If it were up to King T’Challa, the MIMIC e-bike would be fitted with vibranium tech, but we’re going to stick to an electric power-train for now. This crouching-jungle-cat of a bike is a concept designed by Roman Dolzhenko. Outfitted with what looks less like a body and more like armor, the MIMIC e-bike comes with a rounded, Tron Light Cycle-inspired form with rounded elements and just an overall absence of straight lines or sharp edges. The e-bike has a dual-lamp headlight fitted on the front, looking almost like a menacing pair of eyes, and a dashboard that lays flush against the e-bike’s curved panther-esque body.

The PUNCH is an e-bike that reinterprets the motorcycle template with its less-organic-more-geometric sensibilities. Owing to its battery and electric drivetrain setup, the PUNCH can afford to do away with the curvilinear, sinewy bike design and just lay the inner components out in a way that’s straightforward and yet comfortable. This renewed approach is what makes the PUNCH such a radically different two-wheeler. It comes with a double-cylindrical body that seamlessly goes from headlight to seat to taillight, highly reminiscent of the Pocket Rocket from Sol Motors.

Meet the Tesla Model M… designed to make electric bikes more of the status quo, the Model M comes with a unique aesthetic that deliberately chooses to create a negative space in its design where the fuel-tank would be, almost poking fun at its fuel-guzzling ancestors. The bike’s curvy outer body harks to the curvilinear design-language of its sedans like the Model X and Model S, and a massive dashboard occupies a significant amount of space where you’d expect the fuel tank’s inlet – giving you a whole host of data from your speed and battery level to the bike’s performance and even a detailed map to help you navigate.

The Z-Motorcycle’s design is dominated by the Z shape that forms the core of its design. The Z starts at the headlight, finding its way down to the rear wheel, cutting through the bulk of the motorcycle’s form. It also dictates the bike’s design, with a relatively flat top, featuring integrated fold-out handles and footrests, the absence of rearview mirrors, and a seat that smoothly extrudes out of the Z’s spine and cantilevers ever so gently off the rear wheel.

Switch Motorcycles is a new electric bike company and they have just unveiled the eScrambler which is their very first product and we have to say, it’s quite impressive! The first thing you’ll notice is that it has a sturdy, angular build, almost like the flat trackers and classic bikes of the ’70s or even the Tesla Cybertruck, making it stand apart from the usual slimmer electric bikes. To complete its big-guy aesthetic, it has 18-inch wheels wrapped in chunky tires, KTM forks, and a central mono-shock. Being a vehicle in 2020, it has all the tech you’d want in a bike – a digital display, cruise control, a battery level indicator, integrated GPS tracking, three power modes, and in-built Wi-Fi which truly sets it apart.

Carota’s Classic E-bike is an experiment in form, bringing a lean design to a series of bikes that are not known for their leanness. Look at the e-bike in its side view and you notice its similarities to a low-riding cruiser. The curved fuel-tank, the seat’s proximity to the rear-wheel, and an elongated silhouette, all take on a Harley Davidson-esque appearance that’s often synonymous with a loud engine that makes its presence felt… but that’s where the Classic E-bike chooses to be different. It opts for a more silent electric drivetrain, a V-twin that sits right below the seat, powered by a battery that resides within the fuel-tank form factor. Carota’s Classic E-bike comes with the demeanor of a cruiser showcased with simplified, minimalist appeal.

Calling for attention with its aesthetics more like a trimmed rectangular block of wood, the EV-1K/56 is a worthy evolution of the Katalis EV.500 electric motorcycle with its Japanese design influence. This artistic interpretation is the work of cool apparel manufacturing unit Machine M56 and design firm Katalis Company, both Indonesia based companies. Taking a very niche approach towards electric bike designed by Julian Palapa (for Katalis Company) for eco-conscious riders who appreciate the right blend of futurism and subtle influences, the ride creates the instant first impression. The all-black body is complemented by hints of orange and white artwork that feels so upmarket.

The Concept 1 from Zooz shatters the very perception of what a motorcycle should look like. Designed with the appearance of the skeleton of an e-bike, the Concept 1 feels like someone took a motorcycle and Marie Kondo’d the heck out of it… but within it sits a powerful 72-volt QS Motor, a controller, and an under-slung battery pack jammed with Samsung 35E cells that allows the Concept 1 to travel at speeds of 60mph while weighing a mere 85lbs. The Concept 1 is literally a design hybrid, with a front, seat, and back styled to look like a motorcycle and wheels to match… but with the most bare-basics metal-piping frame in the middle.
