Ozzy Osbourne Plush Bat Has a Detachable Head

On January 20, 1982, in Des Moines, Iowa, singer Ozzy Osbourne bit off the head of a dead bat thrown on stage by a fan, in front of a crowd of 5000 people. There is apparently some debate on whether he really did it or not, but the stunt made rock history anyway. Well, it’s the 37th anniversary of the incident and to celebrate it, there is now a plush version of the infamous bat with a detachable head.

You could never get away with this stunt today, real or not, because PETA would hound you forever. If you want, you can pretend that you are Ozzy on stage, and take a bite out of this thing if that’s what you’re into. There’s no actual blood in this plush toy, but if there were, this would be more of a slushie than a plushie.

It’s a cute plush when it’s head is on anyway. The first batch of these toys went up for pre-sale and is sold out. We have no idea if there will be more. If you see them for sale, buy it like a bat out of hell. Oh wait, that’s Meat Loaf. Anyway, no threat of rabies with this bat. Bite it all you want.

The Walking Dead Negan’s Bat Replica Is a Bloody Mess

Late last year, we saw Negan’s bat Lucille get its own replica while it was all clean and wrapped in barbed wire. That bat replica was what it looked like before Glenn’s eyeball got popped out. I still wish it had been Carl to get smashed up, I can’t stand Carl. Oh well, there’s still time I suppose.

This time out, McFarlane Toys has a blood-soaked Lucille replica that looks like the bat after Abraham and Glenn met their makers. The replica is aptly named the “Take It Like a Champ” edition. Yikes.

This full-size plastic replica will ship in October 2017, just in time for your Negan Halloween costume. You can pre-order yours now over at Entertainment Earth for $29.99(USD).

LEGO Kinetic Bat Model Flaps Its Wings

Kristal of JK Brickworks created this amazing kinetic LEGO model that is absolutely fascinating to watch. It is a custom designed kinetic sculpture of a fruit bat, which replicates the unique wing motion of the nocturnal flying mammal.

In the video below, Kristal’s LEGO-building partner Jason Allemann shows the model in action, and explains how all of the mechanics work.

This is an awesome build. I have one question though: How long would it take Kristal to build an actual flying LEGO bat? Because I would like to see that. Also, I would like to shoot it and watch LEGO bricks rain down from the sky, but that would just be a sweet bonus.

Bat Bot B2 Robotic Bat: Robat?

Emulating a bat’s complex flight patterns has been a hard task for scientists, but now they are getting somewhere. With over 40 joints in their wings, bats offer a challenge. By simplifying that wing structure into just nine key joints covered by a flexible membrane, scientists have created Bat Bot B2.

Scientists from the Jet Propulsion Lab and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign developed this drone that Batman would love to have in his utility belt. It has carbon fiber bones and 3D-printed socket joints. It weighs just 93 grams and the silicon-based wing membrane is just 56 microns thick. This robot bat has with a one-foot wingspan. Just like a real bat, Bat Bot B2 can move each wing independently and constantly change each wing’s shape to perform complex maneuvers. Interestingly, the flapping motion conserves battery power.

This could be a great robot for surveillance and search and rescue needs. It will interesting to see what comes of this one. This is a big step in animal mimicry.
