This sustainable + contemporary collection of bathroom seating was made using recycled cork

Bathtime is probably one of my favorite times of the day. It’s that precious hour of the day when I can indulge in self-care, and pamper myself without having to worry about the world. And I’ve realized that filling up your bathroom with thoughtful designs, only makes your time in it much more comfortable and smooth. And this collection of bathroom seating by Italian bathroom brand Agape strives to be exactly that! Designed by Marco Carini for Agape, the collection includes two seating designs created from recycled cork.

Designer: Marco Carini for Agape

The first design is called Vis-à-vis, and it is a light and sturdy stool that also doubles up as a tiny side table. The second design is Rendez-vous, and it’s a bench that serves as an extensive seating option for bathroom users. Both designs function as comfortable spots to sit and relax in the bathroom.

“Like in a child’s drawing, or a fairy tale by Gianni Rodari, these whimsical and playful elements show both lightness and originality of thought. In a world that wants everything neatly categorized and defined, these pieces celebrate their versatility and freedom of use,” said Agape.

The stool features a cylindrical form that is quite inviting to look at. It was made using heat-treated cork and has a rather curving form, that looks like someone smiling, according to Agape. The “smiling” shape of the stool is quite unique and allows it to function as a side table as well – one that could hold your excessive bathroom products. The bench, on the other hand, was created using hand-woven cork ropes, that are wrapped and intertwined between recycled aluminum tubing, which has a hearty brick-red tone to it. The bench is a larger and more extensive seating design as compared to the stool, and works well for longer seating durations.

Both Vis-à-vis and Rendez-vous were made using cork that was sourced from the material discarded during the production of wine bottle stoppers. Both designs are water-resistant and have been designed for residential and commercial purposes. They provide a tranquil and relaxing space to unwind and reflect in your bathroom.

Top 10 designs you need in your bathroom to make bathtime your favorite hour of the day

One of my favorite times of the day is bathtime! As, we’ve grown older and life has gotten super hectic, bathtime is that precious hour of the day when we can fully indulge in self-care, and pamper ourselves. Whether that’s in the form of a bubble bath or a long warm shower! And having a beautifully designed bathroom with thoughtful designs will only amplify this special time of the day. These products can make a huge difference in our everyday bathroom experience. They not only help us carry out our personal and grooming activities even more easily, but they also help us take care of ourselves and our washrooms a little better. From a bathtub and shower designed by Kohler to help you achieve ‘stillness’ while bathing to a cleverly designed dual-sided shower scrubber – these well-designed products are all you need to elevate your daily bathtime!

1. The Tandem Shower

Bathroom fixtures can often be a pain to integrate into your bathroom, however, the Tandem shower is designed to attach directly to your existing showerhead! The easy-to-install no-plumber-required shower accessory distributes your shower into two distinct streams. Although perfect for couples, the Tandem Shower also makes a pretty compelling case for solo showers with a much more luxurious, immersive 360° shower experience.

Why is it noteworthy?

The Tandem Shower comes with an adjustable design, allowing it to fit in most bathrooms. It connects directly to your existing showerhead’s water inlet, which effectively distributes the water supply between the two showerheads. A valve on the Tandem Shower then lets you effectively switch between either of the showerheads or run both simultaneously. It’s worth noting that the Tandem Shower was also designed keeping other considerations in mind – for starters, it comes with a flexible hose that lets you mount your Tandem with plenty of clearance, allowing for a second showerhead that’s much higher than your current one (especially useful for taller people).

What we like

  • Comes mounted on a ball and socket joint, letting you angle-adjust your water flow as you would with the existing shower
  • The high-velocity setting in particular delivers nearly two times more force than standard showerheads

What we dislike

  • Space consuming design

2. Face à face

Italian bathroom brand Agape partnered up with French architect Jean Nouvel to create a beautiful collection of sinks and baths. The name Face à face is derived from the dual meaning of the word ‘face’ in French. Face á face quite literally translates to ‘surface’, and ‘human face’. The unique name is meant to convey the materiality of the products, as well as their functionality in the process of bathing.

Why is it noteworthy?

The collection essentially consists of a stunning sink and a bathtub. Both products have a pretty angular feel to them and are highlighted by upright slabs of marble, as well as a tilted backrest in the tub. The slanted backrest was featured to give the impression that both sides of the bathtub are standing like separate pieces, rather than being connected.

What we like

  • Celebrates the beauty of marble
  • Showcases the detail, veining, and sheer simplicity of the stone

What we dislike

  • Not ideal for homes with tiny bathrooms

3. Kohler Stillness Bath and Statement Shower

Kohler Stillness Bath

Kohler Stillness Bath

At the Salone del Mobile 2022, Kohler displayed a collection of inspiring products, once again proving how committed it is to helping us have a truly transcendental bathing experience. Kohler’s range of products included the Statement Shower and Stillness Bath, both of which aim to be excellent for the mind, body, and soul.

Why is it noteworthy?

The Stillness Bath is a thoughtfully-designed product able to offer intelligent solutions for our bathroom at home. It is an experimental bath system that combines water, light, fog, and even scent to create a wonderful and immersive experience for the senses. Kohler’s Statement Shower Collection enters the game and delivers a range of unique products in different sizes and shapes, including sprays that are compatible with any kind of bathroom, anywhere in the world. The collection features aesthetics that are elegant, sophisticated, and quite contemporary.

What we like

  • Inspired by Japanese forest bathing
  • Focuses on physical and mental well-being

What we dislike

  • No complaints!

4. Air Spa

Drying yourself with a towel after having a bath seems pretty old school, and a rather tedious process to me. Not to mention, it consumes a whole bunch of time, and I suppose BDCI design was on the same page when they designed ‘Air Spa’…a body dryer! Yes, you read that right. The South Korean design consultancy created a dryer for your body, and defines it as a “refreshing bathroom experience”. The tall vertical appliance blows out air to dry your body after you take a shower.

Why is it noteworthy?

Now, this is where the spa bit of ‘Air Spa’ comes into play! The appliance’s unique form and height support various little holes that blow out air. These ‘air holes’ feature multiple layers, and can be positioned vertically or horizontally, however, you prefer. So, you have air blowing at you from different angles and positions, mimicking the experience of a massage or spa. It’s almost like a wind bath if you ask me. And, it could be the ultimate last step in unwinding after a long day at work.

What we like

  • Air Spa’s interesting height makes it perfect for users of all ages. The vertical appliance can be used for children and adults alike
  • Reduces our laundry load!

What we dislike

  • Unsuitable for homes with tiny bathrooms and space constraints

5. Angle

We could always do with a new and interesting wash basin, since the regular ones can tend to get boring. This concept for a ceramic washbasin is called Angle. It provides a completely different look for a sink, and is a far cry from the normal ones. But this isn’t just something decorative as the design is actually to make it easier for the water to go down the drain.

Why is it noteworthy?

The washbasin uses curved and triangular surfaces from the faucet to the basin itself. The drain is actually a tiny opening at the corner of the basin so all the water that comes out of the faucet will just flow towards there without you having a visible drain. The V-shaped basin makes it easier to drain the water.

What we like

  • The V shape makes it easier for the water to drain

What we dislike

  • Not sure what will happen if there are some particles that will not slot through the pretty thin drain at the corner

6. The  Sprig Shower Infusion System

At this year’s CES, Kohler unveiled the future of bathing! Called, the  Sprig Shower Infusion System, this innovative shower infusion system promises to let you relax and unwind as you bathe. How does it do so? Its simple! It includes a device that can be attached to any showerhead, which lets you add ‘Sprig Shower Pods. These pods infuse the water with a rather soothing and pleasant aroma, that helps you rejuvenate as you bathe!

Why is it noteworthy?

Kohler is building on this system with a range of pods that offer a variety of fragrances like eucalyptus, chamomile, rose, lavender, and lemongrass, along with minerals and ingredients that are supposedly good for your skin, like hyaluronic acid and sodium. According to The Verge, each pod provides infusions for “several minutes.”

What we like

  • Provides a therapeutic experience as we bathe
  • Comes in a wide variety of fragrances

What we dislike

  • No complaints!

7. The K-25 Smart Bath Towels

A fast-drying towel is the dream and one that quite honestly seemed pretty far off. But not anymore! The team behind K-25 Smart Bath towels spent years in research and development to finally create one: a giant waffle weave towel that soaks water as a super-sponge. They have a big community of cult-like following around the world, for a reason.

Why is it noteworthy?

Design similar to our breakfast favorite waffle comes with a load of benefits. The waffle texture gently exfoliates your skin, while the waffle honeycombs help the towel easily absorb all the water in one quick pass. It also dries itself twice faster, thanks to an airy weave and breathability. Being surprisingly lightweight, but feels thick, fluffy, and soft on the skin. Great for the hair too, as it soaks all the moisture quickly eliminating the frizz. The towels are generously sized, so you can easily wipe your entire body with them, and comfortably wrap it around your waist when you’re done.

What we like

  • Created to be naturally antibacterial
  • Thanks to its waffle texture, it is quick-drying too, so you’re never faced with a damp towel because it didn’t sufficiently dry off

What we dislike

  • No complaints!

8. The Shower Scrubber

Designed by Casamera, the Shower Scrubber features a unique dual-sided design, that lets you pick between the two sides – a softer side great for massaging, and an exfoliating side to get rid of all the dry skin! The Shower Scrubber comes with a radical new redesign, sporting a honeycomb pattern on one side, to open your skin pores, and a walnut-shell textured surface on the other side, for scrubbing off dead cells to leave your skin shining.

Why is it noteworthy?

Konjac sponges have been on the market for ages galore, and they’ve been designed and redesigned in quite a few forms, however, the Shower Scrubber unlocks its true potential with its design and various infusions. The large guitar-pick-shaped design comes with a honeycomb texture on one side, inspired by Casamera’s waffle-textured towels. The honeycomb texture helps gently massage and pamper the skin (especially around the face), open the pores, and more importantly, is incredibly effective at building up a lather. The other side, however, is a textural contrast, as the sponge comes with particles of walnut shells suspended within the surface, offering an exfoliating experience that’s great at removing dead skin on your body to reveal shining, supple, radiant skin underneath.

What we like

  • Dual sides to meet the different needs of your skin
  • Biodegradable

What we dislike

  • Not sure how well it would work on sensitive skin, could be harsh on it

9. The K25 Bathrobe

Say hello to the K25 bathrobe! This lightweight, absorbent, and odor-resistant bathrobe features a waffle-like texture that makes it not only super easy to dry but also super thin. Thinner fabric means it dries faster too and leaves you feeling comfortable without that familiar-yet-avoidable musty dampness.

Why is it noteworthy?

It comes made from 100% natural combed cotton, is breathable, has a hoodie (to dry your hair too), and has been amped with a feature that is really quite useful in these modern times – it comes with two well-sized pockets for carrying your phone, tablet, or other belongings around.

What we like

  • Lightweight and absorbent
  • Super comfy and cozy to wear

What we dislike

  • No complaints!

10. The Yoku Towel

If you’re looking for a soft and cozy towel, that feels as comfy as your favorite blanket, then the YOKU towel is the one for you. The YOKU towel feels like hugging a polar bear. Made from the softest and finest Suvin cotton (often referred to as White Gold), the towels are devotedly hand-crafted in Imabari, a Japanese town that’s perfected the art of towel-making.

Why is it noteworthy?

Supported by a dense history in towel-making spanning over 120 years, it’s safe to say that the craftspeople in Imabari know a thing or two about towel-making. Designed to be the equivalent of silk clothing, the Yoku towels wrap you in soft luxury. They’re so soft that they come recommended for babies too, and are designed to be extremely gentle on their delicate skin. The towels are meant for wiping, but they’re also meant for everything else. They act as comforters, are soft enough to be hugged, or even used as security blankets.

What we like

  • Hand-crafted in Imabari, a small town in Japan
  • Weaved using 100% Suvin cotton
  • Perfect for those who love softer and cozier towels

What we dislike

  • No complaints!

This stunning collection of marble fixtures is what you need to create the bathroom of your dreams

We may not pay attention to our bathrooms very often, but the truth is they’re the little alcoves we spend a substantial amount of our time in, carrying out our personal activities. It’s probably the only time we’re ever truly alone, and bathrooms are like our own personal zones. Hence amping up our bathroom with the correct fixtures is quite important. These fixtures can make a huge difference in our everyday bathroom experience. And one such collection of fixtures I recently came across was the Face à face bathroom collection.

Designer: Agape x Jean Nouvel

Italian bathroom brand Agape teamed up with French architect Jean Nouvel to create this beautiful collection of sinks and baths. The name Face à face is derived from the dual meaning of the word ‘face’ in French. In French, the name translates to ‘surface’, and ‘human face’. The name intends to convey the materiality of the products, as well as their functionality in the process of bathing. Quite interesting, no?

The collection essentially consists of a stunning sink and a bathtub. Both products have a pretty angular feel to them and are highlighted by upright slabs of marble, as well as a tilted backrest in the tub. The slanted backrest was featured to give the impression that both sides of the bathtub are standing like separate pieces, rather than being connected. Crafted from flat sheets of marble, the collection truly celebrates the beauty of the material. It artfully showcases the detail, veining, and sheer simplicity of the stone. The products are available in two color options – black and white. So, you can go for either a lighter-themed bathroom or a darker one.

The basin also comes in various versions – countertop, wall-mounted and freestanding, along with the option of towel bars or storage elements. The Face à face collection is an elegant set of fixtures that can truly elevate your bathroom, and transform it into a sophisticated space in your home.

This Toilet Has a Gaming PC Built Into Its Tank

Discontent with just bringing a portable gaming system like a Steam Deck or Nintendo Switch into the bathroom to play games while on the can, YouTuber Basically Homeless went and assembled a full-fledged gaming PC in the tank of his working toilet. He then mounted a monitor on the wall right in front of the toilet so he can play Counter-Strike while taking a global offensive. And they say dreams don’t come true!

The construction of the toilet PC basically involved reducing the tank’s water reservoir to a small well he built out of plexiglass, then adding all the computer components to the dry area of the tank outside the plexiglass well. He also added lights, built a window so you can see inside, and included an exhaust fan to keep the PC cool and reduce humidity inside the tank. Now he just needs to add a mini-fridge, and that bathroom will be complete.

So, if you were wondering what home improvement project I’ll be tackling this weekend, the answer is this: a gaming PC toilet. Probably immediately followed by repairing a massive leak, then next weekend, replacing the water-damaged drywall and carpet in the basement.

World’s First Chia Toilet: The Sprouthouse

Who hasn’t dreamed of resting their rear on some soft green sprouts while they go about their bathroom business? Good news! YouTuber Ali Spagnola created the Sprouthouse: a toilet completely covered in chia seedlings. As far as good ideas go, I think we can all agree this one is Nobel Prize-worthy. Somebody get Ali one of those MacArthur Fellowship genius grants too.

First, Ali wrapped her entire toilet with gauze to hold the seeds while they spout, then carefully watered them every day for seven days until she had the world’s greenest toilet. She then takes a seat to test it, which she describes as “just a little moist, but in a satisfying way.” Wow, who knew sitting on a moist toilet could ever be satisfying?

Ali insists nobody should go their whole life without sitting on a Chia toilet, and I couldn’t agree more. I mean, is a life having never sat on a plant-covered crapper truly worth living? I, for one, don’t plan on risking it. Now I just need to convince my wife to not go into the guest bathroom for the next week.

Ofuro bathtub immerses you in a Japanese-inspired relaxing soak

The bathtub industry is expected to grow in the coming years as real estate is seen to sustain growth. Many people believe we are already at the tail-end of the pandemic, which could mean the residential construction business will also begin to pick up. The more homes are built, the more the demand for home fixtures and bathroom fittings will increase. This means more consumers will have to shop for items for their future residences, even if it’s not always a fun activity to do. If you are planning the design of your future bathroom or want to renovate it, you need to decide what kind of bath accessories to get.

Designer: Carlo Colombo (Antoniolupi)

Ofuro Bathtub

Bathing can be an ultimate form of relaxation, but to achieve such a wonderful experience, your bathroom needs to have the right fittings, accessories, and shower system. Antoniolupi can help with several interesting bathroom furnishings as the company continues to design and deliver products with distinguished Italian flair. Antoniolupi is now a brand known for its exclusive bathroom accessories and mirrors, but it has since expanded to different product lines for the living space. It has teamed up with several designers to create products of the highest quality since most of the products are tailor-made. While other brands go for mass production, Antoniolupi keeps the tradition by offering customization on the design.

Antoniolupi Ofuro Bathtub

Antoniolupi Ofuro Bathtub

The latest product, the Ofuro series, comes from the traditional Japanese bath that involves soaking and relaxation. The use of the name gives the inspiration to create a bathing experience that is truly calming and comforting. Showers may not be enough, so bathtubs are preferred in some situations when you really need to destress and decompress. A few moments in the tub allow not just purification of the body but also of the soul and mind, as it is where you can be free from all the stress and worry of the day.

Antoniolupi Ofuro Bathtub

Antoniolupi Ofuro Bathtub

Antoniolupi’s Ofuro series is a response to such a need for wellness and healthy living. The idea of full immersion in hot water is why the Ofuro bathtub is large, looking like a large basin perched in the corner of the bathroom–just like the Japanese tradition. The Ofuro is created from Flumood, which is an innovative and ecological material that is very compact, non-toxic, and non-porous. It is said to be the ideal material for the bathroom, according to Antoniolupi as it’s been used on some of the brand’s projects, including the new bathtub currently showcased at Salone del Mobile 2022.

Antoniolupi Ofuro Bathtub

The satin white finish of the Ofuro bathtub makes it a pristine choice for bathrooms, especially if you are into the minimalist aesthetic. The bathtub looks like a work of art with curves, sharp edges, and straight lines–appearing to be carved from a single block, making it more special. An Ofuro bathtub will look great in the corner of the bathroom, and the edges’ thickness may vary depending on the space a user needs. The LED light around the bathtub edge looks imposing, resulting in an elegant and illuminating effect.

Innovative product designs to provide you with the ultimate bathroom experience

We may not pay attention to our bathrooms very often, but the truth is they’re the little alcoves we spend a substantial amount of our time in, carrying out our personal activities. It’s probably the only time we’re ever truly alone, and bathrooms are like our own personal zones. Hence amping up our bathroom with essential accessories and handy product designs is quite important. These little products can make a huge difference in our everyday bathroom experience. They not only help us carry out our personal and grooming activities even more easily, but they also help us take care of ourselves and our washrooms a little better! From an unconventional weighing scale designed to look like a set of tiles to a smart eco-friendly shower with a pressure-sensitive floor panel – we’ve curated a whole collection of innovative and functional bathroom accessories for you!

1. Air Spa

BDCI Design designed ‘Air Spa’…a body dryer! The tall vertical appliance blows out air to dry your body after you take a shower. Air Spa also protects your body from external temperature and humidity and maintains your body temperature. So, you know those few minutes after a shower when you’re feeling super cold before you wipe yourself down with a towel? Well, Air Spa completely eliminates those dreadful few minutes. It also eliminates the tedious task of adding your towel to the laundry and washing it.

2. Smart Shower

Designer Natasha Jadhav decided to create a ‘Smart Shower’. This shower is truly smart, interactive, and not to mention aesthetically pleasing too! Jadhav struck the perfect balance between aesthetics and functionality with this design. Jadhav’s smart shower consists of the actual shower on the ceiling of the bathroom, a sleek white console that holds panels, and a hand shower, as well as a pressure-sensitive panel on the floor.

3. The Tiles Weight Scale

The Tiles Weight Scale looks like a panel of your quintessential ceramic bathroom tiles. They aren’t made from ceramic, which means they aren’t slippery, and the white panel has an LED display that shines through the material, activating the moment you stand on it. That way, it serves its purpose wonderfully when it needs to, and blends right into the bathroom’s decor when not in use! With a glossy, tiled design, the product fits perfectly into the contemporary bathroom, looking more like functional decor than an appliance.

4. Lucere

Lucere mimics that perfect vanity-lighting experience without racking up an electricity bill. It features a pair of portable lights that attach directly to your bathroom mirror to give you bright, bi-directional light without casting sharp shadows. The Lucere comes with a mount that adheres to your mirror, allowing you to magnetically snap the lights on or off whenever you need them. Both the lights come with touch-sensitive on-off switches and the ability to set them at your desired brightness using simple +/- controls. The lights charge via a standard MicroUSB cable and last for 3 hours on medium brightness.

5. The Shower Scrubber

While Konjac sponges aren’t new (the internet’s absolutely littered with them), the Shower Scrubber unlocks its true potential with its design and the various infusions.

6. BrushPro

Designer Geraldine Tong wanted to change our perception of toilet cleaning tools while also solving related issues like its environmental impact and the clutter it creates in our bathrooms. Her goal was to create a brush that didn’t cause more landfill waste, took minimal space, reached the narrow areas, and of course, look visually appealing – so she designed BrushPro in collaboration with Lam Soon Singapore, and the mission was accomplished. This redesigned toilet brush lets you switch out brushes while reusing the main body which reduces a lot of toxic waste. BrushPro is extremely convenient to use compared to its forerunners. The extendable handle allows you to reach narrow spaces without having to perform advanced yoga poses on the floor and minimizes your direct contact with the dirty brush.

7. K-25 Smart Bath

Design similar to our breakfast favorite waffle comes with a load of benefits. The waffle texture gently exfoliates your skin, while the waffle honeycombs help the towel easily absorb all the water in one quick pass. It also dries itself twice faster, thanks to an airy weave and breathability. Being surprisingly lightweight, but feels thick, fluffy, and soft to the skin. Great for the hair too, as it soaks all the moisture quickly eliminating the frizz. The towels are generously sized, so you can easily wipe your entire body with them, and comfortably wrap it around your waist when you’re done.

8. The BBalance Mat

Combining the bathroom mat and the bathroom scale into one product, the BBalance Mat will tell you your weight while keeping your bathroom floor dry… but it does more than just that. Outfitted with a body-composition scale, a posture analyzer, and even a sensor to recognize your footprint (so it works for all the members of your house), the BBalance Mat gives you an in-depth analysis of your health just as you step out of the bath. The mat immediately recognizes you as you step on it, calculates your weight, body composition, BMI, posture, and balance, giving you a comprehensive look at your body’s stats from day to day. Oh, and since it senses your feet, it’ll also tell you which shoe size you are, just as a nifty little added benefit!

9. JoyFous

JoyFous takes the existing shower curtain and gives it a much-needed design upgrade. Made for 3-walled bathtubs (where the 4th wall is usually occupied by a curtain), JoyFous is a nifty, slim, retractable screen that’s easy to pull out and retract before and after your bath. It’s a much more convenient alternative to the shower curtain that’s clumsy and doesn’t stop water from leaking out onto the bathroom floor… and it’s a whole lot cheaper than those frosted glass partitions, and it isn’t breakable or fragile too! Working much like retractable blinds that you pull downward, JoyFous operates sideways, creating a neat privacy-partition while you bathe or just laze in your bath-salts solution with some candles and bubbly… and its unique water-dam feature keeps the water inside your bathtub, so you don’t step out onto a soaking wet and slippery bathroom floor.

10. The Kohler Moxie Showerhead

Kohler seems to have taken a massive liking to bathroom singers with its new showerhead. With a halo-shaped design, the Kohler Moxie Showerhead allows you to fit a wireless speaker into its negative cavity, giving you a luxurious Kohler-worthy shower with handpicked (or rather voice-picked) tunes to accompany you as you bathe. Now the Moxie isn’t a new product. Kohler released the quirky showerhead+speaker combination in as early as 2012, but the new update (to be showcased at CES2020 next week) allows Moxie to communicate with Amazon’s Alexa voice AI, allowing you to ask it to play songs (or karaokes), brief you on the news, or order you some more shampoo. The Moxie speaker is detachable and docks right into the torus-shaped showerhead using magnetic action.

This skylight-enabled litter box doubles up as furniture to please cats and their owners

Chris Granneberg designed an enclosed litter box, available for purchase through Cat Person, that’s built to please cats and their owners.

While enclosed litter boxes are great for cat owners, cats seem to have some trouble getting used to them. Cats are temperamental creatures and that means their litter boxes have to fit the bill. For cats to feel comfortable enough to use their littler box, it has to accommodate different needs.

Designers: Chris Granneberg x Cat Person

There has to be enough headroom for cats to be able to sit down and turn around easily, there should also be a means for light to enter so cats aren’t going in the dark, and airflow is a must to ventilate the inside of enclosed litter boxes. Cat Person, a lifestyle brand for cats and their owners, recently teamed up with Chris Granneberg, an industrial designer, to develop an enclosed litter box that’s built to please booths cats and their owners.

With Cat Person, Granneberg set out to design a litter box that appears like a piece of furniture to blend in with other interior design elements. To achieve this, Granneberg outfitted the Cat Person litter box with a wooden top lid that gives it the same appeal as a small side table. Ensuring casts enjoy enough airflow and light while taking care of business, Granneberg punctuated the wooden top lid with circular cutouts, creating a ventilated and well-lit interior space.

Granneberg also designed the litter box with larger-than-average dimensions to allow bigger cats to have enough room to sit and turn around with comfort. An ergonomic and durable scooper accompanies the litter box that comes with a handy storing mechanism to avoid the eyesore of litter dropping to the floor. Joining forces with Cat Person, this collaboration marks another step toward Cat Person’s commitment “to make life with cats even more awesome,” through whole cat care.

The built-in scooper holder solves the issue of litter dropping to the floor.

The entrance is big enough even for larger cats to move in and out of with ease.

This 3D printed portable toilet is made from recycled plastic!

This sustainable toilet is designed to compost solid waste while also tackling the sanitation crisis – using design and technology to do good sh*t! It is a solution that eradicates plastic waste and turns it into a construction material that reduces the load on landfills. The portable toilet is also absolutely beautiful with its white aesthetic and cocoon form! The first 3D printed prototype was produced by an advanced seven-axis robotic printer and is being tested on a construction site in the Swiss Alps.

Created by Spanish design studio Nagami and To: it has been dubbed The Throne and it comprises three parts – a teardrop-shaped body, a dramatic, double-curved sliding door, and a bucket for solid waste. All the parts were printed within three days, including the base and some smaller accessories that were either injection-molded or ordered. It also includes an off-the-shelf separation toilet seat to separate urine from solids for composting.

For the prototype, the teams used discarded plastic medical equipment from European hospitals. “Our treatment of waste, both human and artificial, has a profound impact on the future of humanity and our planet. Since the 1950s roughly 8.3 billion metric tonnes of plastic has been produced, and only around 9% of this has been recycled; the remainder have been incinerated, piled into landfills, or dumped in our oceans,” said Nachson Mimran, CEO and co-founder of To: Creative Activists.

“The 3D printed Throne has been an incredible challenge for us, working with mechanics, sliding doors, and off-the-shelf products such as a separate toilet. These design components forced us to think in a different, utilitarian way which really makes this proof of concept special,” said Manuel Jiménez García, CEO and co-founder of Nagami.

The Throne goes further in its realization of a circular economy by composting the waste produced by users and using this compost locally. Eventually, the teams want to put the technologies and tools in the hands of local communities. When innovation is shared fairly and the carbon footprint created by logistics and shipping of these products can be greatly reduced. The Throne is just one example of the possibilities of what additive manufacturing can do for scaling sustainable design and development – it’s only waste if you waste it!

Foot Operated Toilet Piano for Crappy Concertos

Because why shouldn’t I add a bit of piano accompaniment to the natural percussion I produce on the toilet, FireBox is selling this $18 Toilet Piano. The foot-operated piano features a full octave of keys (13 – 8 white, 5 black) so I can vainly attempt to cover the sounds I’m making in the bathroom while party guests knock on the door and politely ask me to hurry up. I hate being rushed!

The roll-out Toilet Piano is powered by 3 AAA batteries and includes both a songbook and ‘DO NOT DISTURB’ sign to let the rest of your family know that your private music lessons are currently in session, and it’s probably best not to enter the bathroom for another thirty minutes after they’ve concluded. Good lord, light a match or something!

Obviously, I plan on recreating the scene at FAO Schwarz from Big where Tom Hanks and Robert Loggia play ‘Heart and Soul’ and ‘Chopsticks’ on the giant foot piano, except in my own bathroom. Now, I just need to find a partner…
