Ford and Agility Robotics Team for Package Delivery Robot

Ford knows that autonomous cars will be used in a big way for delivery services. People who buy stuff online don’t always have time or the desire to walk out to the road to get their packages off the autonomous delivery vehicle. So the automotive and mobility company is working on solutions for those last 50 feet to the door.

Ford recently teamed with Agility Robotics to create a robot called Digit. The ‘bot can carry up to 40 pounds to your door, though it will probably terrorize small children and pets whilst doing it.

Digit is a bipedal robot that can navigate the environment that most humans use every day. It’s made of lightweight materials for long battery life and can fold to store in the trunk of a vehicle until needed. The robot has minimal sensors using only stereo cameras and LiDAR to navigate. Ford says when needed, it can connect to bigger robots with more powerful sensors.

Ford hasn’t announced any delivery partners who plan on using Digit as of yet, but robot delivery people bringing packages to our doors could happen as soon as next year.

Ford wants this creepy robot to bring its autonomous deliveries to your door

Autonomous deliveries and self-driving vehicles may be the future, but there are still a few gaps that need to be addressed -- namely that it's not always possible for people to leave their homes to retrieve deliveries from the roadside (and if you'r...

Robots learn to walk naturally by understanding their bodies

The challenge with bipedal robots isn't so much getting them to walk at all (although that's sometimes a problem) as it is getting them to walk naturally. They tend to either step cautiously or quickly run into trouble. Swiss researchers think they...

Boston Dynamics Releases Official Footage of Handle Robot

You might remember that leaked footage of Boston Dynamics’ latest killer robot, Handle. Well now they’ve released an official video of Handle so we can all be officially terrified.

This wheel-legged robot is the stuff of nightmares. It moves around at speeds up to 9 mph, can lift 100 pounds, go down stairs, and has all of the hallmarks of a robot that can chase us down and kill us dead. It can even jump obstacles and on top of tables, so no one is safe, even in a cafeteria.

The apocalypse, brought to you by Boston Dynamics. How much will it cost to build a fallout shelter, because I give up.

Cassie the Bipedal Robot is Creepy as Hell

This is Cassie. Cassie is a bipedal robot that is only a robot arse and legs. Cassie is cool, but kind of creeps me out. I mean it’s basically robotic bum that will truck around on its own.

In this video, Cassie roams campus at Oregon State University looking for a hot blonde coed to steal a torso, arms, and head from. If your name is Farrah, and you see Cassie cruising the campus, definitely run away as fast as you can.

Cassie is impressive technology for sure, but I don’t want this thing lying around in my house and standing up like it wants to kill me. Seriously, I don’t know why they couldn’t make it cute like Johnny 5.
