Get the iMac-style workflow on your iPad Pro with Brydge’s standalone trackpad for iPadOS

Your M1 iPad Pro is as good as an iMac… Brydge’s iTrack trackpad brings iMac-style functionality to it. Up until last month, Apple marketed the iPad as a laptop replacement, however that perception changed when the iPad was introduced alongside the iMac at Apple’s SpringLoaded event at the end of April, both with Apple’s supercharged M1 chip. The iPad is more than just a laptop now, it’s a machine with more processing power than most machines with Intel chips, and its graphical power is comparable to high-end gaming consoles. In short, it looks and behaves like an iMac with a touchscreen, so it just made sense to bring the iMac’s accessories to it too.

The iTrack comes from the fine folks at Brydge, who’ve developed some of the best accessories for Apple products over the years (they released a keyboard+trackpad attachment for the iPad before Apple did). Debuted at CES back in 2020, the iTrack (which officially launched just last week) is a compact multi-touch trackpad that’s designed to give your iPad workflow a significant upgrade. Styled to look just like Apple’s own Magic Trackpad 2, the iTrack is much smaller (with a 6.1-inch diagonal) and sports the same space-grey aluminum body and touch-sensitive glass top.

Designed to work seamlessly with iPadOS (versions 14.5 and higher), the iTrack automatically and instantly connects with your tablet via Bluetooth, providing an experience as seamless as Apple’s own trackpad. Sensors within the device detect subtle pressure differences that let you tap, scroll, swipe, and use other multi-touch features on your iPad Pro. Just like a Trackpad or a Magic Mouse, you can work within programs, intuitively select and edit text and spreadsheets, and switch between apps… besides, the iTrack even works seamlessly with other connected accessories like a keyboard or Apple Pencil, complementing most workflows.

The iTrack debuted back in 2020, but its launch wasn’t until last week, owing to delays because of the pandemic. It ships for $99.99 (that’s $20 cheaper than Apple’s Magic Trackpad 2), has a USB-C port for charging, and boasts of an impressive 6-month battery life on a full charge, with 2-hours of use every day.

This week’s best deals: $25 off the Apple Watch Series 6 and more

October is coming to a close soon and that means even more deals are popping up as we officially enter the holiday shopping season. Amazon basically kicked things off early with Prime Day last week (and Best Buy, Walmart and other retailers followed...

The best smartphones, tablets and smartwatches to give as gifts

A smartphone makes for one really nice but expensive holiday gift. If you're shopping for someone who deserves it (or just really needs to upgrade from a phone from way-back-whenever), we've got recommendations across iOS and Android, as well as othe...

Thought that was a MacBook? Look again, it’s a hybrid iPad Pro!

If you’ve read our long-form piece on the 2018 iPad Pro, you’ll get a pretty good idea of exactly how powerful it is. With an 8-core GPU that’s designed to perform as well as the latest XBox, a 7-core CPU that’s capable of intense heavy-lifting, FaceID, battery that lasts all day, a touchscreen with a stylus, and even a Type-C USB port that lets you hook the iPad to practically anything, the iPad Pro is just as good as a MacBook Pro, if not better. In fact, probably the only visible difference between the two is the difference in OS… and the fact that the MacBook Pro packs a keyboard. Or rather, ‘packed’ a keyboard.

Designed to turn your tablet into a reliable, powerful, laptop-esque device, Brydge’s keyboard for the iPad Pro fixes onto the device at the corners, and swivels open and closed just like a laptop’s hinge would, with the ability to adjust at any angle. Dock the 2018 iPad Pro in, and its bezel-less design practically makes it behave a laptop, along with Brydge’s keyboard.

The people at Brydge have done some exceptional work creating a keyboard that truly looks and feels like a laptop, rather than a flimsy tablet-accessory. The keyboard body comes milled from aerospace-grade aluminum and even comes in silver and space gray that match Apple’s hues. It features a beautifully functional (and complete) backlit keyboard with three levels of backlight intensity, and also packs a great deal of key-travel that is sure to feel MUCH better than the MacBook’s horrible butterfly keys. The keyboard even replicates the MacBook’s aesthetic with the signature cutout at the lip… and perhaps the best feature of all, it comes with an entire year’s battery life. Sadly, there’s no trackpad on this one, but you’ve literally got a touchscreen display, so that definitely shouldn’t be a problem.

Designed to transform the iPad into a true hybrid, the Brydge sees the iPad Pro for what it is… a tablet that is capable of being an incredibly useful laptop, but is just one step short. Brydge’s keyboards help complete that step, giving you the ability to own a tablet that is perfectly capable of being your work machine… and is also a couple of hundred dollars cheaper than Apple’s laptops! Plus, with Brydge’s lifetime warranty, what more could one possibly need?!

Brydge’s Newest iPad Pro and iPad mini 4 Keyboards Show Up at CES 2016

BrydgePro iPad Pro Keyboard

Brydge, one of the most reputable manufacturers of keyboards for Apple’s iPad tablets, has just unveiled two new products at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Brydge keyboards excel in functionality, and they literally have the power of turning iPads into Macbooks, at least as far as productivity is concerned. The previous models have earned Brydge several awards, and the newly introduced ones only build up from there. Since both of them pack patented 180-degree hinge systems and U-shaped silicon clamping mechanisms, high-grade 100% aluminum build, backlit keys and superb haptic key feel, the two new models are meant to impress iPad Pro or mini 4 owners by being not only extremely durable, but also very good-looking. In short, BrydgePro and BrydgeMini combine sophistication with minimalistic design, to complement Apple’s iPad tablets perfectly.

“The iPad Pro is a game-changing device, and as with previous iPad models, is further revolutionizing the way we work, learn and play. The BrydgePro aims to unlock the full potential of the iPad Pro and deliver the perfect blend between iPad and MacBook.” commented Nicholas Smith, CEO of Brydge. “The combination of the larger format iPad and BrydgePro has numerous applications, whether it is in the smallest classroom or the largest enterprise. Brydge is dedicated to being the market leader in innovative devices that deliver the ultimate experience in mobility and productivity when working with the iPad.”

Pictured above is BrydgePro, which as its name suggests, was designed for the iPad Pro. According to the manufacturer, it has the following specs:

  • Thickness: 0.27-inches thick (same as the iPad Pro)
  • Weight: 1.60 lbs
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth 4.0 Connectivity
  • Colorways: Available in Gold, Silver and Space Gray
  • 180-degree viewing angles
  • Backlit, tactile keys with varying brightness levels
  • Rechargeable three month battery

The BrydgeMini, on the other hand, weighs less, something you’d come to expect from an accessory for a smaller tablet, but it is slightly thicker than its bigger brother. Here are the technical specifications.

  • Sizing Dimensions: 0.29-inches thick
  • Weight: 0.66lbs
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth 3.0 Connectivity
  • Colorways: Available in Gold, Silver and Space Gray
  • 180-degree viewing angles
  • Backlit, tactile keys
  • Rechargeable three month battery

As you have probably noticed, the BrydgePro isn’t only lighter and thicker, but it also lacks the varying brightness levels of the BrydgePro. That makes sense from the price standpoint, as lesser models of a line are typically accompanied by poorer accessories, in terms of features.

Brydge is taking pre-orders for both BrydgePro and BrydgeMini on its website, and the latter even benefits from a special pre-order price, as it carries a $99 price tag. Shipping will commence in January 2016 for the BrydgeMini, and in April 2016 for the BrydgePro, which has a MSRP of $189.99

If you happen to be in Las Vegas today, you can pay Brydge a visit at CES Unveiled, at table #120, to check out their newly launched products. In addition to that, you can find them at booth #36433 in the South Hall 4, between January 6 and 9.
