This 7-in-1 Titanium Carabiner has an emergency feature that could save your life

Most carabiners are designed for strength, some have multitools built into them, but the KeyUnity KU02 is cut from a different cloth. Sure it’s made from titanium which bestows upon it high strength and durability, but the KU02 also sports a sharp spear-tip edge that works as an ideal self-defense tool or even an emergency glass-breaker to let you make a quick exit. Yes, it also has two built-in wrenches (one of which doubles as a hex driver) and a keychain holder, but let’s be honest, they aren’t exactly the KU02’s most ‘exciting’ features now are they…

Designer: KeyUnity

The first thing that jumps out with the KU02 is that design. It’s carabiner-shaped, but assumes a more tactical form factor thanks to that pointed tip. The entire thing is made from CNC machined titanium with a stone-washed finish, which means you know it’ll be durable for sure. The carabiner’s arm is made from titanium too, and relies on a clever design feature to give it its spring-loaded action. The carabiner can easily be strung along your belt for outdoor adventures, attached to your backpack during travel, or even placed in a tool-kit if that’s how you prefer to organize your EDC.

The carabiner’s pointed tip is where a lot of its appeal lies. Not only does it allow the KU02 to work as a pry-tool, it’s great for emergencies and tactical use too. Wear the carabiner around your finger and the tip becomes like a push-dagger of sorts, allowing you to defend yourself in a sticky situation, or even make a quick escape by punching through glass windows or panes. It isn’t as effective as a tungsten-carbide alloy tip, which can break through eve laminated glass in a single strike, but the titanium tip can definitely cause some damage with sustained attacks.

Other features include the two hexagonal slots on the KU02’s side – one for docking 1/4″ hex bits, and another which serves as an M4 wrench. Together, these form the utilitarian features in the KU02, allowing you to disassemble, reassemble, and repair stuff around you. Jimping around the edges gives your thumb and fingers enough textured gripping power, and when you’re not using the hex tools, the hole serves as a nifty key-ring slot, allowing you to string your keys into the KU02.

This 5-in-1 Titanium Carabiner Multitool is the Perfect Travel EDC Companion

Your keychain can hold keys, and it can probably open bottles… but can it fix your bicycle? Can it transform into a screwdriver? Can it turn into a box-cutter or self-defense tool? Designed for the outdoor enthusiast who always loves having the right tool on them for the right task, the KeySnap is a rather cleverly designed 5-in-1 carabiner. Crafted out of Grade-5 Titanium (the strongest metal known to mankind), the KeySnap is a pretty brutishly built carabiner keychain that doubles as a multitool. The carabiner’s unique one-piece design allows it to easily attach onto belt loops, backpack straps, and other hooking points, while the KeySnap’s base features a tiny removable blade with a semi-sharp edge that’s perfect for cutting paper, drops, and opening boxes. Look around the KeySnap and you’ll also notice its hex-wrench that also works as a bit holder for a screwdriver, a spoke wrench that’s perfect for fixing bicycles, and a bottle opener that lets you crack open a brewski outdoors.

Carabiners are pretty much a standard fixture in the EDC world and you’ll probably find your fair share of ones with multitools built into them, but the KeySnap is different in two key ways – A. The fact that it’s made entirely from grade-5 titanium, which makes it much more durable than any steel alloy carabiner on the market. and finally B. the integration of a removable blade into the base of the carabiner, allowing you to quickly detach it when you need to, and clip it back in place once you’re done.

The first thing you notice with the KeySnap’s design is the carabiner detail. Unlike most carabiners that come with a spring-loaded arm, the KeySnap just uses a clever series of cuts that allows the titanium to bend as if it were spring-loaded. Given how incredibly resilient titanium is, the arm can flex a great deal without breaking or withstanding any sort of damage. Titanium’s shape-memory nature gives the arm its springiness, allowing it to return securely to its original position.

The KeySnap’s defining feature (and something that sets it apart from the competition) is that detachable miniature blade. Designed to sit securely inside the carabiner until you press the buttons on each side, the blade can easily be removed for cutting and emergency use. It has a rather tiny spear-point edge, so if you want something more tactical you best go for a full-fledged knife. However, for everything else, it’s a perfect blade to have on hand. The spear-point tip is ideal for cutting through envelopes and boxes, while the edge itself is semi-sharp, so you’re really in no danger of slicing skin and hurting yourself.

When you’re not slicing away at boxes and plastic packets, the KeySnap has a few other tools that can prove to be incredibly handy. A hex wrench lets you work screws and bolts, but also allows you to dock a standard hex-bit and turn your carabiner into a makeshift screwdriver. Right beside the hex wrench is a spoke wrench, perfect for fixing spokes in a bicycle, and to the extreme end sits a bottle opener, a common yet much-appreciated fixture of any good multitool… after all, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, doesn’t it?!

All the features fit into the carabiner’s rather compact frame, making it a perfect EDC for your outdoor travels. The KeySnap clocks in at 3.11 inches long, 1.38 inches wide, and weighs a mere 1.3 ounces (37 grams). It’s designed to practically last a lifetime (thanks to the Grade 5 Titanium build), and even with the blade, the KeySnap fully complies with TSA hand tool carry-on regulations. Perfect for carrying any and everywhere, the KeySnap transforms the humble carabiner keychain into an EDC that packs a few interesting features that you’ll be happy to have on you at all times. The KeySnap starts at a discounted $49, and ships worldwide for free starting January 2024.

The Only Tactical Multi-Tool You’ll Ever Need: This Titanium Pocket Knife + Glass-Breaker Conquers All

Small enough to fit on your keychain, this tactical tool can get you out of a variety of hot messes. The Bladeclip features an all-titanium handle, with a quick-deploy interchangeable blade that always has you ready for any indoor or outdoor cutting action. Machined into the titanium handle is also a unibody carabiner clip with clever design detailing, a bottle opener, a keychain ring, and a window breaker that covers quite a few responsibilities of a good multitool. To make things even more impressive, the Bladeclip measures a mere 3.2 inches (81mm) when closed, weighs just a little over 2 ounces (61 grams), and comes machined out of Grade 5 Titanium, giving you a multitool that’ll outlive you by a couple of decades without even showing signs of wear and tear.

The Bladeclip is a good multitool that’s been executed brilliantly. Pocket blades with built-in bottle openers are a dime a dozen, but the Bladeclip’s design direction shows a clever appreciation of detailing, material choices, and even user experience all along. Every part of the Bladeclip feels well-made, and every corner of it is executed flawlessly. For starters, the entire body of the Bladeclip comes machined from Grade 5 Titanium, giving it incredible durability while allowing it to be pretty lightweight. Its clever design reduces the number of moving parts too, so that your blade has fewer points of failure.

Activated by a clever flipper with a roller bearing, the BladeClip comes with a replaceable No.18 scalpel-style blade that you can either replace whenever needed, or swap out for any other standard scalpel blade. Made from surgical-grade steel, the blade offers high strength and anti-corrosion properties, while boasting of a blade sharp enough to whittle away at wood, slice paracord, or even through a seatbelt. The blade gets deployed with a simple flick of your thumb and stays open thanks to a liner lock mechanism. When the blade runs dull, instead of sharpening it, you can simply ditch it for a new blade, keeping your BladeClip going even when the going gets tough.

The side profile of the BladeClip gives you a brief overview of its other functions, including a bottle opener that lets you effortlessly crack open a brewski in the hot outdoors (or even indoors), and that brilliantly designed carabiner mechanism that’s machined right into the titanium itself. Right under the carabiner sits a window-breaker that lets you make a quick exit from a building or a car, or break into an emergency box to retrieve a first aid kit or fire extinguisher in a crisis.

The BladeClip’s carabiner quick-release clip has my heart for its ingenious design. Rather than building a spring-loaded arm into the carabiner, the BladeClip’s handle comes with a series of machined cuts that allow for the titanium to flex ever so gently, functioning as a spring-loaded arm that bends under pressure, but then shuts back with a satisfying click. The lack of a mini spring and of a separate arm makes the carabiner much more efficient from a manufacturing perspective, and also helps the BladeClip last longer and resist breakage. I won’t be surprised if this also becomes a nice fidget interaction that you’ll find yourself constantly playing with.

The genius series of cuts allows the BladeClip’s titanium arm to be flexible

The quick-release carabiner clip’s design also makes carrying the BladeClip really easy. While most pocket knives come with a dedicated pocket clip to help securely carry your EDC with you, the BladeClip ditches that for the versatile carabiner detail that straps to your belt, belt loop, or even your pocket. Couple that with its built-in keychain and you’ve got yourself a winning EDC on your hands… or in your pocket!

A look at the BladeClip’s flipper mechanism while deploying the blade

The BladeClip comes with ten standard No. 18 surgical blades, although it supports a variety of other blades too, from No. 19 to No. 26 scalpel blades. The blades are strong, sharp, and cheap, allowing you to easily replace them periodically. As far as replaceable add-ons go, there’s even space for a tiny tritium slot on the BladeClip’s body, although that’s available separately.

Each BladeClip sports a stone-washed finish and starts at $89, and for an extra $15, you can either have your BladeClip anodized with a matte black finish or get your name custom engraved on the handle, turning it into a true heirloom item that you can pass down to your great grand-children… Given its rugged titanium build, it’ll probably still look as good as new.

Skeletonized Bolt carabiner made from titanium and brass is a trendy way to carry your keys

Carabiners are an important piece of climbing equipment for the outdoorsy, but for the random blokes like you and me, these metal loops have a great advantage when it comes to keeping the keys safe. Yes, there are a plethora of uses a carabiner can come in handy, from hanging bottles from the backpack to connecting ropes and tents; yet carrying keys would be an everyday use case, and I’ll tell you why?

How often have you found yourself running late to work or school only to notice, you don’t have the keys on you? Struggling at the last minute, in and out of the rooms, you realize the keys were hiding deep within your pant or jacket’s pocket. This is essentially why carabiners make attractive keychains to let you hang the keys at home and carry them safely in the loop of your plants.

For the benefit of Gen Z, which fancies modern and trendy equipment, the new version of the Bolt Carabiner V-II begs a gawk. Designed by EDC Apparatus, the Bolt is not an ordinary auto-locking or twist-locking carabiner; this one instead has a trigger on the opening side, which you slide down to open the gate. The rugged carabiner also sways from the ordinary D shape carabiners, it features a Question mark form factor, with an opening in the bottom to hold the keys for you.

The Bolt carabiner is not made of regular steel. It is made in a mix of CNC-machined grade 5 titanium and brass. The skeletonized body, as the makers like to mention, is designed for seamless one-hand operation. Capable of hanging various accessories, the carabiner is wear- and rust-resistant, however, we are not sure of its load-bearing capacity, so you might want to confirm the payload capacity since the makers suggest ‘it is unsuitable for cargo.’ Bolt carabiner is available in anodized blue or brown colors to choose from and measures only 83 mm in height. It is currently retailing for $119.

These Apple AirTag metal carabiners offer some peace of mind when you lose things

All of us have lost something at one point in time or another, whether it’s something as trivial as an umbrella or a critical possession like a briefcase. Some might have even been unlucky enough to get their stuff stolen during unguarded moments. These moments always cause stress and feelings of despair, especially if it involves important or expensive items. Thankfully, technology has come to the rescue with trackers and tags that can help you locate those lost items, such as Apple’s simple yet powerful AirTags. The AirTags themselves can be pretty plain, perhaps even too plain, so these precision metal work carabiners try to give it a little more personality while also keeping your property safe and always within reach, even when they’re lost.

In Stainless Steel

Item trackers have been around long before Apple launched its AirTag, but, as usual, the Cupertino-based company added a few twists that made it special. In addition to a new disc shape that contrasted with the predominant square design, Apple utilized a new kind of network that doesn’t rely only on short-range Bluetooth to find items. Unfortunately, the AirTag’s very design didn’t make it ideal for attaching to many things, which gave birth to a market of loops and holders for the tracker.

In Brass

Apple’s official AirTag accessories opted to use leather to give the coin-shaped accessory a classier appearance, but that isn’t the only material you can use to upgrade the tracker’s design. A carabiner, for example, can offer better protection for the tracker and a more secure attachment to any object. It can also be made to look attractive despite its often rugged appearance, as clearly demonstrated by these metal carabiners especially crafted for the Apple AirTag.

Unlike typical metal carabiners, these AirTag carabiners aren’t made from melted metal poured into casting. Instead, each part is precision made from solid metal, carefully crafted by hand to produce a more solid and more durable product. Given those conditions, each item might have slight variations, resulting in something that is like a unique edition per piece.

In Duralumin

The carabiners are made from high-quality materials and are available in three variants. The most interesting is the Duralumin version which uses a widely-used material that might be unfamiliar to many ears. This composite alloy that contains other metals like aluminum, copper, magnesium, and others is often used on aircraft, spaceships, and boats because of its durable and lightweight properties. It also means that this carabiner will easily survive a dip in the water or a flight on a plane.

There’s also a Brass carabiner that develops a more personal relationship with the owner. The untreated surface will develop a unique patina over time, aging gracefully and beautifully. The Stainless Steel version is simple and understated, offering an accessory that can keep up with your active lifestyle outdoors. Whether it’s Duralumin, Brass, or Stainless Steel, these carabiners will give you some reassurance that you’ll be able to locate your lost property again while also looking good hanging off your bag or key chain.

Nike Air Force 1 with removable Swoosh carabiner is a fascinating twist to the iconic sneaker

Nike Air Force 1 has been through numerous iterations in the last four decades. In 2022, as the sneaker which was first introduced in 1982 marks its 40th anniversary, we are bound to witness some innovative variants show up. Case in point the Louis Vuitton x Nike Air Force 1 by Virgil Abloh on auction via Sotheby’s. In the coming weeks, another interesting Air Force 1 Low is expected to launch with a removable Swoosh-shaped carabiner fastened over the rubber Swoosh on its lateral.

Air Force 1 was the first basketball shoe to debut the iconic Nike Air technology, which forever altered the on-court “sneaker culture.” Over the years, the AF1 has evolved from the basketball sneaker image into a fashion staple; it is modernized for street style, and now it wants to tinker into the outdoor trend with a pair featuring a detachable carabiner. The first images of the two expected colorways of the sneaker have appeared online, and the sultry images already have the sneakerhead in me enticed.

Designer: Nike

The interesting catch here, for an outdoorsy in you, is that the carabiner is of no more use than being used as a keychain hanging from a loop of your jeans. The metal EDC on the Swoosh is removable, but the labeling on it suggests, it can only bear a kg of weight (roughly 2 pounds). So, if you were thinking of strapping out a carabiner from your shoe and begin your excursion on a vertical rock, turn back! Now that the purpose of this metal accessory is out of the way, let’s get back to the sneaker.

The carabiner in the shape of Swoosh is affixed over the leather logo on the outside of the shoe. The Swoosh is smaller in size than you’d usually see on an AF1. To hold it in place, the Swoosh carabiner is attached seamlessly using a colored Bungee cord, while the tongue features a stash pocket. The new Air Force 1 is likely to arrive in black and white color variants with blue and matte red Swoosh carabiners and accents respectively. Nike is yet to provide an official release date for these sneakers, but from the word around the internet, we are expecting them to retail for about $130 a pair.

This carabiner-based dog leash is a ruggedly designed EDC for all sorts of rough and tough dogs

By definition, a carabiner clip’s designed for securely clipping items to yourself, or even yourself to tethers. Carabiners are designed to be incredibly load-bearing, and they’re mostly relegated to heavy-duty military, construction, and camping equipment… the GPCA X Clip PRO makes the case that if a carabiner clip can allow you to tether yourself while rock-climbing, why can’t it also be used to securely hold your dog while walking outdoors?

Designer: GPCA Design

Click Here to Buy Now: $75 $150 (50% off). Hurry, only 7/90 left!

Designed as a heavy-duty carabiner-leash, the GPCA X Clip PRO is, well, for heavy-duty dogs. It comes with a CNC-machined 360clip that easily clips onto any dog collar or harness, offering a better user experience than traditional clasps, which are fiddly and fragile at best. The 360clip is thicker and comes machined out of solid stainless steel. It clips onto any D-ring with absolute ease, and a diamond-knurled grip makes it easy to maneuver for humans, allowing you to slip it on or off with ease. The 360clip even supports a special no-pull leash looping formation, formulated via the GPCA team. By simply allowing you to loop the leash around the dog’s front legs before clipping it to the D-ring, the no-pull formation forces the dog to turn sideways every time they pull too hard against the leash. Perfect for larger dogs (although just as functional and aesthetically suitable for smaller, cuter pooches), this no-pull formation disables their ability to forcefully tug on the leash, giving owners control over their excitable pets!

On the other side of the leash is the carabiner, designed and proportioned perfectly to fit right into the hand and serve as a high-tension handle. The carabiner can easily clip onto poles or your bike’s handlebar (or even around the leash) to secure the pet when you want, and can be used as a handle while walking your dog. Its design is perfectly grippy and can be held in one of three ways, depending on how big or strong your dog is. For smaller or gentler dogs, the carabiner can be held or even secured to your belt loop, or even your pocket via a pocket clip. With larger, more powerful dogs, the carabiner itself can be gripped within your palm, giving you the perfect grasp to ensure that you don’t accidentally let go of the leash as your dog tugs on it. What’s convenient about the carabiner is that it isn’t even limited to a single dog leash. Just open it up and slide multiple leashes in, and you’ve got a single grip to tether all your dogs… you could even chuck your keys or poo-bag-holder in for good measure.

The GPCA X Clip PRO’s carabiner comes machined out of either stainless steel, or infinitely stronger titanium. Either of the variants give the carabiner the ability to take 400 lbs of force, allowing you to easily reign in even the most brutish of dogs without worrying about a leash digging into your skin, or snapping apart because of your large dog’s tugging ability. Given how versatile and universal the carabiner is, you could use it for other things too, while camping, trekking, or even carrying things around (it isn’t rated for climbing, FYI)… and perhaps my favorite part about the carabiner’s design, a tiny detail that allows it to even open bottles with ease!

Sitting between the carabiner and 360clip is the GPCA X Clip PRO Set’s rope leash. Thicker than flat-woven leashes, the rope is akin to the kind of paracord of tethering cord used in camping, rock-climbing, and even military rappelling. It’s measurably stronger, much more comfortable, and comes with a nifty adjusting mechanism that lets you easily adjust the length of your leash on the fly.

Every element of the GPCA X Clip PRO Set is designed as an upgrade to the current leash system… functionally as well as visually. The ruggedly designed EDC works well on its own, and allows you to universally use the clip and carabiner with other leashes too, letting you walk multiple dogs while easily gripping onto them. The carabiner clip can secure onto bike handlebars and car-handles too, or even around your belt-loop or a harness-jacket, if you’re walking multiple dogs together. The metal clip and carabiner come CNC-milled and are designed to last for years, while the rugged rope-leash boasts a 6-core design and comes made from stainless-steel and polyester for high-durability and strength. It’s not often that we see a lot of pet-centric EDC here on Yanko Design, but the GPCA X Clip PRO Set definitely sets the standard extremely high!

This clever nutcracker design was inspired by the shape of a carabiner clip!

There’s a certain charm to the Nutcracker designed by Rudolph Schelling Webermann for Normann Copenhagen, and this charm stems from the fact that the Nutcracker doesn’t really look like a nutcracker.

With its slick, modern design, Webermann’s nutcracker design looks more like a carabiner clip, but it is, in reality, a Class 2 lever that lets you easily crack nuts of varying sizes. The carabiner-shaped nutcracker comes with a closed-loop design and is made with a silicone outer body that’s comfortable to hold as you apply pressure. Metal inserts on the inside of the silicone clip let you place and crack-open nuts of different sizes, and the closed-loop silicone design acts as both a hinge as well as a spring, allowing the Nutcracker to easily break open the toughest of nuts before returning back to its original shape.

This folding carabiner + knife combination is the perfect companion for your everyday adventures!

Mike Bond’s trove of everyday carry designs has once more been opened and this time around, it can clip to your belt loop or pocket knife as the ultimate daily carry. Celebrated for his Techliners and Para-biners at Ti2 Design, Mike Bond knows pocket essentials. After all, our pockets are prime real estate for everyday carry items and there’s only so much they can fit. It’s a good thing Compano, an everyday carry keychain carabiner folding knife, designed by Mike Bond for CRKT comes with a belt-loop clip so your pockets can stay open for business.

When it comes to pocket knives, size matters – we are talking blades after all. Coming just under 1.5 inches in length, the blade is reinforced with an added layer of carbon for a stronger and more durable edge compared to stainless steel. Stainless steel knives dull blades with added chromium, while high-carbon stainless steel delivers a sharper edge and firmness to the blade, but also falls vulnerable to easy rusting when exposed to moisture. The Compano folding knife leans on a swing mechanism to unfurl the high carbon stainless steel blade, which can regularly be sharpened for everyday maintenance. Bond also integrated a spring-loaded gate from which Compano’s carabiner rebounds to easily hinge up and down. With this added carabiner feature, Bond managed to take the best features from other essential daily-carry products and merge them into a keychain-sized folding knife that readily attaches to your body as you leave your front door.

Compano also features a classic locking mechanism with a slip joint feature that secures the knife in place when either opened or closed. When using the blade, Compano reaches a full length of 4.59 inches and only weighs around 2.20 ounces so whether the knife is used for carving or slicing, the job will always feel manageable. Since this is an everyday carry product, it’s important that it embodies a look and feel that has us instinctually reach for it before leaving the house. With a black stonewash handle and bronze accents around the circular opening and carabiner, Compano has a classic look that will only improve over time with consistent use for a more crafted and sculpted looking pocket knife.

Machined from a single piece of titanium, WESN’s Carabiner promises to last a lifetime

What if a Lifetime Warranty was baked right into your company’s ethos? How would it define or determine your design choices? Well, for WESN, the approach is simple. Make stuff using the highest quality materials and in a way that is damn near destruction-proof. Meet The Carabiner, WESN’s take on the humble EDC clip that people use for everything from securing their ID Card to their belt-loop, or their body-harnesses to a bungee rope. The construction of a normal carabiner is simple and involves broadly four parts – a hook, a clip, a rivet to hold them together, and a spring that allows the clip to stay shut, so things don’t accidentally unhook or slip off. WESN’s Carabiner, however, comes with just one part… itself. With its unique monolithic design, machined out of a single billet of titanium, WESN’s Carabiner does everything a carabiner clip can do, but also looks visually interesting and lasts far longer than other clips can.

A machined pattern on The Carabiner replaces the need for a spring and rivet, allowing the clip to open and close on its own by making the metal bend and flex. The titanium construction ensures the spring-action never weakens (even after hundreds of years), while giving the clip the durability to last a lifetime, making it easily one of the most stylish and robust pieces of EDC you’ll ever have the pleasure of owning.

Designer: WESN
