‘Gwent: The Witcher Card Game’ finally arrives on Android

At long last, Gwent: The Witcher Card Game has made its way to Android after it debuted on iOS back in October. The Android release arrived almost a year to the day after CD Projekt Red announced it was working on smartphone versions of the free-to-p...

Bethesda stops work on ‘The Elder Scrolls: Legends’

It's not a good time for card battle games, apparently. Bethesda has put all The Elder Scrolls: Legends development "on hold" for an indefinite amount of time, effectively canceling both the console version and a planned card set. The game will sti...

Capcom’s ‘Teppen’ card game pits Chun-Li against Dante

Capcom clearly couldn't resist the temptation to hop on the card game bandwagon. The gaming giant has teamed up with GungHo to release Teppen (no, not Tekken), a card battler for Android and iOS that revolves around better-known characters from Stre...

Deadpool vs The World Card Game is Perfect for Adult Game Night

There are plenty of card games out there that have players caption what you see on the cards or complete sentences for humor and fun. Deadpool fans wanting a new game to add to their game night shenanigans will want to check out Deadpool vs The World Card Game.

The game comes with 400 cards total. 100 of those cards have custom illustrations of Deadpool in strange and inappropriate situations, while the 300 remaining cards include partial captions with a dry-erase surface. The idea is to finish the captions to come up with the most offensive and outrageous explanations of why Deadpool is in those compromising positions.

Amazon has the game for $24, and it would be an excellent Christmas gift for fans of Deadpool and card games.

Japanese Mom Proves Parents Just Don’t Understand

Back in the late ’80s, before Will Smith was a huge actor, he was rapping about seeing blinkers and how parents just didn’t understand at a time when most rappers were making music about stuff most parents certainly didn’t allow in the house. A mom in Japan has proven The Fresh Prince correct; moms everywhere just don’t understand. The story goes that the mother was cleaning out her sons old room after he moved away and found some Magic the Gathering cards. She put them up for auction without asking her son if that was cool.

She started the auction at about $5 US and what the internet quickly realized was that at least one of the cards was extremely rare. The one in the second row on the far right is the White Border Black Lotus – apparently one of the rarest of rare Magic cards. The auction ballooned to over ¥601,000 (~$5,500 USD) before the son realized moms was up to something and had her call off the auction. Crisis averted.

At least she didn’t just throw them out.

Harmonix Dropmix Blends Music Game with Card Game

Harmonix is no stranger to music games, with hits like Rock Band and Dance Central to their credit. Now they have teamed up with Hasbro to bring us Dropmix. This time around you won’t need to purchase a bunch of plastic instruments to play – just cards.

Dropmix is played with a pack of physical cards and a board that connects to an iOS or Android device. The board connects to a smartphone app via Bluetooth and can recognize the NFC-enabled cards. Each card represents the vocals, drums, or bass of a different song from a popular musician or band. Song mixes are then created as different cards are put down in a different order. Think of it as a mash-up of DJ remixes and strategic deck building – an interesting combo indeed.

You can play 1v1 or 2v2 player games. Points are determined by the hand of cards that are played. The app keeps track of score and can even save the songs from different play sessions. This could be another big hit for the company. We will see. It certainly is different.

The Oregon Trail Card Game: You Have Rolled the Die of Dysentery

I spent so many hours playing The Oregon Trail back in the day. Regardless, I always, always died of dysentery. In fact, I don’t think anyone in the history of 6th grade beat that game. If you feel like getting dysentery in the form of a card game rather than an old and pixelated video game, you now can.

A card game version of the classic game has turned up at Target and it looks pretty cool. The game comes with 58 trail cards, 32 calamity cards, 26 supply cards, a laminated wagon party roster, erasable marker, and a die. The die is the physical embodiment of deadly diarrhea.

Check out the video to see how the game is played – basically, the objective is to help get one of the players at the table from Missouri to Oregon without dying. It looks really cool and probably as hard to beat as the old video game.
