Watch-inspired smart suitcase concept is made for frequent travelers

Some people might have fantasies of traveling frequently as part of their job, not realizing how tiring and tedious it can quickly become. Never mind the fatigue that actually comes from traveling, the stress of packing and wrestling with suitcases might be enough to make many people cry out in frustration. There are many ways to ease the pain when traveling regularly, and part of the strategy is having a well-designed and reliable bag or suitcase to store everything you need, especially for a one-day trip. That’s the kind of need that this concept design tries to address, and it’s taking inspiration from one of the most popular makers of watches, calculators, and electronic pianos.

Designer: Harshita Kaur

Casio’s brand spans multiple products, including musical instruments, calculators, and both analog and digital watches. The latter category has become iconic of Casio’s design language, particularly with its geometrical forms and overlapping shapes. It’s a language that is applied to this suitcase concept that tries to offer a smarter way for frequent travelers to secure their belongings for one-day business trips.

This business-minded purpose is easily seen through many of the tech-savvy features that the AeroEase concept proposes. For example, the front pocket is a laptop sleeve that can be easily accessed with a push of a button. Security is provided by an NFC lock that can be accessed via a smartphone using biometrics like a fingerprint. There’s also a small display panel on top that shows critical travel information at a glance, including the weight of the suitcase.

The very shape of the suitcase itself is also quite eye-catching, eschewing traditional designs where the front half is often a single material piece. Instead, the front pocket looks like a distinct part that protrudes from the body of the suitcase, while the four corners of the suitcase have bumpers that take inspiration from Casio’s iconic G-SHOCK rugged watches.

While the AeroEase’s design is indeed quite distinctive, there might be some aspects that raise concerns, especially about the durability of such a suitcase. That display, for example, could break with impact, which isn’t uncommon in during rough rides. Those bumpers could also easily snag against other items in cabins or overhead storage, which could cause some issues for the owner or other travelers. With some refinement, these concerns could be addressed, hopefully offering a less stressful experience for working men and women who often find themselves on long overnight travels.

G-Shock and Land Cruiser tie-up for Dakar Rally-inspired Mudman rugged watch

Collaborations in the top tech echelons are routine. Some are hard stretched but few are like a match made in heaven. A meaningful partnership in the latter type is the Toyota Land Cruiser’s tie-up with G-Shock. I am sure this collab, which marries high-end watchmaking with automotive genius, would need no introduction. But if you mean why, the companies thrive on their ability to go anywhere and take what you throw at them, so why not?

The partnership marks the 30-year history of Team Land Cruiser Toyota Auto Body competing at the Dakar Rally. The watch for the occasion is designed to embody the spirit of resilience and adventure, which are the main stakes of the iconic motor sporting event renowned for its challenging and exhausting terrain.

Designer: G-Shock x Land Cruiser

Dubbed the GW9500TLC-1 Mudman ‘Land Cruiser’ limited edition, it is based on one of the most rugged G-Shock watches, the Mudman GW9500. Aptly chosen to represent the most extreme motorsports event, the G-Shock Mudman in the collaboration is inspired by the TLC racing team and the Dakar Rally itself.

That said, the new watch is as close as it can be to the Mudman GW9500 in features and style, except for a few tweaks that make this G-Shock a Toyota companion for the desert. The primary distinction is the use of stainless steel for the bezel and the custom color theme of black and red ion plating that make the timepiece and keeps it in theme with the rally car, Land Cruiser 300 GR Sport’s color scheme. For its distinction, the collaborative G-Shock x Land Cruiser Mudman, reference GW9500TLC-1, is priced about $60 higher than the base Mudman model at $440.

Besides all that, this G-Shock x Team Land Cruiser Toyota Auto Body Mudman has all the same features as the GW9500. It has a Carbon Core Guard interior that’s resistant to dust and keeps the watch tough yet lightweight. The watch is solar powered, has a dynamic dual-layer LCD, features 6 radio-controlled timekeeping, and 200-meter water resistance. The digital compass, altimeter, barometer, and thermometer make the watch an ideal partner for the 10,000km Dakar Rally.

G-Shock has ensured perfect branding to render the watch appropriate for The TLC racing team. The caseback wears the TLC logo. The G-Shock x Team Land Cruiser Mudman’s rugged case comes paired with a black rubber strap which has a brown sand-splashed pattern for camouflage in the desert.

Casio Baby-G celebrates 30th anniversary by getting a Hello Kitty 50th birthday design

I still have a pretty clear memory of me begging my parents to buy me a Baby-G watch when I was still a teenager and I didn’t have any money yet to get my own. I also remember buying anything that has a Hello Kitty design that I could afford back then, which wasn’t a lot since, as I mentioned, i didn’t have my own money just yet. Now that I am a full grown adult earning my own keep, my dreams for both may be about to come true as Casio is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Baby-G and Hello Kitty is turning 50.

Designer: Casio

Casio and Sanrio have announced a collaboration for the two brands with the brand new Baby-G model, the BGD565KT which features all the Hello Kitty things that you can fit in a watch. The watch design itself is based on the BGD-565 which sports the very first design of the Baby-G model which was launched back in 1994. It still has the usual watch features including shock resistance, 100M water resistance, LED backlight, multi-function alarms, stopwatch, countdown timer, and a 3-year battery life.

But of course, the star of this model is Hello Kitty herself. The entire watch has a total of 50 Hello Kitty details so you’ll get a kitty overload. This includes the band which has printed faces of the 1970s version of the cute feline as she’s laughing, winking, and looking surprised. You’ll also see her on the LCD when the backlight is on, with her distinguishable eyes, nose, and whiskers. The dial itself has a ribbon design so you get a Hello Kitty face on your wrist.

Since we’re celebrating milestones for both brands, the watch itself has a retro design which users like me wouldn’t really mind since this is all about cute nostalgia. Even the packaging is Hello Kitty-fied as it has a cloth pouch based on the design.

Casio miniature watch erasers celebrate G-Shock’s 40th anniversary

I probably haven’t used an eraser for quite some time now since I rarely use pencils to write or draw on my journals. And the few times that I did use a pencil, it already comes with a “built-in” eraser anyway so no need to have a separate one. But if i do find a cute shape for an eraser, I would not hesitate to get one as a souvenir or keepsake.

Designer: Casio

If someone hands you a tiny Casio G-Shock, make sure that it’s an actual watch before you get excited. That’s because the Japanese watch brand is releasing a very realistic albeit smaller version of its famous G-Shock watches to celebrate the watch line’s 40th anniversary. But instead of telling time, these “watchpieces” will be able to erase your mistakes. Well, at least if you used a pencil to write something down.

The erasers are exact replicas of the DW-5600 G-Shock watches and you can get them for free if you buy specific products from Casio. They’re around 60% of the actual sizes of the G-Shock watches and they have detachable bands in case you need a better grip if you’re using the erasers for what they were created to do. But if you just want them as a cute souvenir from your trip to Japan or from your Casio purchase.

Since Japan is known as the land of cute stationery, it’s not really surprising that Casio chose this kind of commemorative piece to celebrate G-Shock’s anniversary. However, you will only be able to get one of these if you order eligible watches from their online store in Japan. The erasers are available in three colors (black, yellow, red) but you will get a random color as your freebie. I’d still take any color but unfortunately I don’t live in Japan so I will just have to stare at these cute erasers.

Casio Watch Rings are a tiny wearable tribute to the Japanese timekeeping legacy

Imagine if you could wear your favorite Casio watch on your finger, capturing the essence of timeless style in a tiny, wearable form? Enter the enchanting realm of miniature watch rings designed as part of the Casio Watch Ring Collection.

This is a result of a delightful collaboration between Casio and creative minds at Toymaker Stasto Stand Stones in Japan. The Casio watch rings are no ordinary trinkets: these are meticulous reproduction of the watchmaker’s larger wrist-bound counterparts.

Designer: Casio  and Stasto Stand Stones

These shrunken pieces of horological art are nicely encased as wearable treasure. To that accord, they carry the iconic digital display, have intricate dials, and other notable complication such as calculator elegantly scaled down to ring size 18 for your finger.

Whether you’re a Casio fan, a fashion aficionado, or simply someone who loves a touch of whimsy, Casio x Stasto Stand Stones give a chance to wear time on our fingers but for an aesthetic appeal only. They look functional, but the watch rings are a playful homage to horology and capture our imagination while adding a dash of style to the fashion statement.

The Casio Watch Ring Collection has been available since the mid of July, 2023, through retail outlets, toy stores, and home-appliance shops in Japan. Interestingly, the watch rings are also available through vending machines across Japan.

So, a few coins and a touch of anticipation are all it takes for one of these tiny treasures to drop into your grasp. Once you have them, these watches will keep you enchanted one glance at a time!

2023 NASA-themed G-Shock watch rounds up in celebration of the pursuit of the moon

G-Shock watches lead the industry in robustness and durability. This makes them worthy of adventurers on earth and in space. Furthering that image, Casio enters fourth edition of the NASA commemorative G-Shock in time for its 40 birthday and the anniversary celebration of the launch of the first Apollo lunar landing.

After three previous outings, where the NASA-themed G-Shock timepieces have accorded their legendary robustness for space aficionados in square-shaped dials; the 2023 iteration dubbed G-Shock DW6900NASA237 breaths fresh air with a round profile, astronauts will fall for.

Designer: Casio

The new G-Shock x NASA watch is based on the iconic G-Shock DW6900 silhouette. It arrives in an impressive matte white resin case and bezel, accompanied by a similar hued band. The watch is embellished with collaborative insignias which extend from the band to the caseback.

The NASA logo appears in vibrant red color on the lower band, while the “National Aeronautics and Space Administration” finds space on the upper band. The band loop stands out with America’s national flag. Flip the watch over and you are greeted by the imagery of Earth, as seen from space, engraved on the caseback.

This earth imagery also appears on the watch face when the backlight is turned on. In addition to the space/NASA-specifics, the timepiece features customary G-Shock specs, such as a stopwatch, countdown function, water resistance, and multiple alarms.

Even though the G-Shock DW6900NASA237 is a must-grab, it’s not for everyone. Interestingly, the watch will sell for $130 in a sale contest. Running on the G-Shock US website, the contest is live until July 16.

The latest G-Shock watch brings a Japanese toy capsule inspired twist to your wrist

I haven’t worn an actual watch for the past 5 years or so, ever since the advent of the smartwatch. But lately, I’ve been thinking about going “old school” once again since I like the designs of these watches better than the usual designs I see even on the most fashionable of smartwatches. Back in my school days, I’ve always wanted to have those bulky but cute G-Shock watches, although I had to settle for a Baby G. But now that I’m considering going back to the more colorful basics, this new one from Casio is such an appealing option.

Designer: Casio G-Shock

The G-Shock line has been expanding the past years and the latest one that they’re adding is the G-B001 line with its double bezel Capsule Tough features. It has removable bezels made of stainless steel and urethane and on top of that, you get a resin case and the whole structure of the body is reinforced with Carbon Core Guard. The capsule design is inspired by those toy capsules that you get in vending machines in Japan which you never know what is inside them until you actually open them.

The G-B001 comes in three colorways, each with different characteristics that should appeal to users with various color preferences. The G-B001MVE has yellow and gray colors with red accents but you can get ombre blue bands and two-tone orange and green bezels to mix and match depending on your mood. It has a rainbow-like ion plating or IP so you get a chrome and mirror finish. The G-B001MVA comes in black and pink with a silver IP metal bezel and a strap design with pink slashes.

Lastly, if you prefer the more staid color combinations, the G-B001MVB has a gray and translucent urethane layer with gray straps and a gold IP metal bezel. Having the detachable bezels for all these models of the G-B001 lets you play around with the watch’s look and your OOTD, even as you still get protection from unexpected bumps and scratches, which for a clumsy person like me is fairly often. For now this seems to be available in Japan but hopefully we’ll get it elsewhere later this year.

Supreme and The North Face collaborate to reimagine the popular G-Shock DW-6900 in vivid colors

G-Shock has some memorable collections but there are a few that compete with the unforgettable DW-6900 series, which with its debut in 1995 instilled a dramatic shift from the square shape of the original DW-5000 series. The rounded form factor of the 6900 has been a fan favorite ever since. It is little surprise then that streetwear brand Supreme and The North Face have collaborated with G-Shock to reimagine the popular DW-6900 in a slew of vivid colors.

It’s not the first collaborative outing for Supreme and The North Face; the three-way collaborative relationship is however a novel one for Casio G-SHOCK and its fans. The new G-Shock DW-6900s will be available as part of the Supreme and The North Face Fall 2022 collection starting November 25.

Designer: Supreme, The North Face and G-Shock

Dubbed Supreme x The North Face x G-Shock DW-6900 models are available in white, yellow, and black color options. Each of these variants is attached to a nylon and Velcro band. The band is embroidered with Supreme and The North Face logos. The North Face branding also appears on the face of the watches while the Supreme box logo makes an appearance on the EL backlight when activated.

The collaborative timepiece magnifies creativity with the bezel, dial, and watch casing available in a wide array of colors. It comes with an interesting choice of band material that diversifies the DW-6900 design language to engross streetwear and outdoor enthusiasts in the same breath. Retaining the prowess and dynamism of the G-Shock brand, the collaborative DW-6900 watches will be available in Supreme stores. These will be available in the US starting November 25 while they will begin retailing in Japan from November 26.
