Literal Cigarette Lighter: Ready, Aim, Fire!

I don’t smoke, nor do I advocate filling your lungs with tar and nicotine. But if you must reach for a cigarette, let it be this one. This whimsical lighter is designed to look just like a cigarette, but you can use it to do healthier things like lighting candles, or starting a campfire.

It’s refillable with butane, and designed to fit into most cigarette packs too. I suppose you could fill your entire carton with these, and you won’t have to worry about contracting lung cancer anymore. Just don’t try and take a puff on one unless you want to burn your lips off.

So flick your Bic on over to Brando, where you can grab a literal cigarette lighter for just $15(USD).

This Cigarette Smoking Robot Could Help Save Humans

A team at Harvard’s Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering has developed a research system that can smoke cigarettes. The gatling gun style system has a mechanical element that can light and puff cigarettes to get the smoke. Surprisingly this system is not named Patty or Selma.

The machine simulates how smoke affects humans by passing smoke through a custom designed “airway-on-a-chip.” The plan is that this system will lead to a better understanding of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and also won’t kill any lab rats along the way. The team published their work in an article in the journal Cell Systems.

I don’t know about you, but I am looking forward to the day when machines become addicted to cigarettes and get winded trying to hunt us down.

And tobacco is the new gunpowder. The Tuyvo 7.62 is an ashtray with a social message. Designed like a 7.62 caliber bullet sleeve, the Tuyvo creates connections between the two deadly objects, in a way that encourages you to make the decision to quit smoking. The top of the ashtray even says Smoking Kills in designer Slava Balbek’s native language, Ukrainian.
