This conceptual travel kit is a modular, portable hairdryer and clothing iron!

This conceptual travel kit is a modular, portable hairdryer and iron designed to give you an ‘Edge’ over others!

Edge is a compact 2-in-1 appliance that gives you more than your toiletries. It consists of three parts: ‘Multi Handle’, ‘Edge Hairdryer Module’, ‘Edge Iron Module’. ‘Multi Handle’ has a button to control the product for using and both modules work with ‘Multi Handle’. Specifically made for those who have meetings on-the-go, the hairdryer and iron help to wash away the weariness of travel and smoothen the wrinkles so you look fresh (or should I say profesh?). “We have adopted a slide structure for intuitive and easy combination of each module. This not only allows the user to easily combine the modules but also reduces the risk of the module being easily detached while using the product” says the team. This helps save time and effort into asking your hotel for the appliances and in case you don’t can’t make a stop and have to rush, Edge can come in handy anywhere you are!

It combines the structural similarities of the two products into one and uses one power supply to run both. The dial button makes it easy to adjust the intensity of the heat for both uses. As this product with module has to work as both iron and hairdryer, the team added a button that would allow a user to operate it without being confused even though it has a single handle. Like most devices, it can be charged using the common USB-C cable. Edge adds another necessary dimension to travel kits!

Get wrinkle-free clothes and a smell-free home with one device!

I’ll be honest, this product is not something you need but it is certainly something you will want. How cool will it be to have an air purifier that also steams irons your shirt for work? That is exactly what this steam and clothes manager does in a nutshell! The design concept for this home accessory aims to solve the issue of using space inefficiently when you have an air purifier and a clothes manager.

This one device serves both functions as we know so all you need to do to switch from air purified to clothing manager is slide up the top. A hanger will emerge and a sliding curtain to allow for effective deodorization when steaming in a closed space. It is relatively smaller when compared to the traditional clothing manager and because of its dual functionality, it becomes a smarter choice especially for the urban homes.

The steam manager has won various awards for its concept already – Korea Design Exhibition Award Special Prize (2019), Winner of International Busan Design Award (2019), and was the finalist at D2B Design Fair (2019). Designer Jiheon Song has already patented the concept and we are excited to see it on the market! I, for one, am ready for cleaner air, cleaner clothes and a cleaner decade.

A bamboo iron to smoothen out the wrinkles in sustainable living

Sometimes we think we are leading sustainably by just using metal straws or paper bags, but if you carefully look at your daily life, you’ll notice there are so many products that use plastic. The best we can do is find alternatives for them and support designers, brands, businesses who are working on making the future a better place to be. One such product is the iron and Indian designer, Saksham Mahajan, who has come up with a sustainable version of it made from bamboo!

The designer started the project as a challenge to explore bamboo as a material, “It’s sustainability can be exploited to make so many different things”, says Saksham – and we agree! Bamboo is structured, sturdy, easy to grow and eco-friendly, in fact, it is used to make houses in Asia so why not use it to make household items too? The bamboo iron box was selected as one of the best entries in the Green Concept Award 2019 which furthers the conversation of using this versatile material in more products.

When they say its the thought that counts, it is true, this concept is just a thought right now but someday it’ll be a real product. Sometimes a thought is powerful enough to inspire a global movement and that’s what our planet needs right now.

Take Your Clothes Iron To-Go

portable_iron_layout

I’ve seen a lot of iron concepts come across my desk but this is probably the first with serious potential for taking it on the road. Unlike other steaming units with bulky handles and large water reservoirs, this one sports a removable handle that tucks away into a hollow space in the body for safekeeping while it’s being stored. The handle also doubles as key to ensure it isn’t misused by children or accidentally left on. It’s not quite flat pack, but in its compact form, it’s small enough to stuff in any suitcase corner or carryon. It’s easy to imagine anyone from traveling lawyers to jet-setting executives using this design!

Everyone Hates Wrinkles, Even the Blind!

protector_iron_01

As simple a task as it is, ironing poses a great risk to those with visual impairments. Because they must guide the clothes iron with their hands, accidental burns often occur. Designed with this in mind, the Protector Iron does just what its name promises and protects hands and fingers from the hot soleplate. A simple yet effective guard wraps around the device and is set away from the soleplate just enough that users can feel where they’re ironing without the risk of burning.

As playful as it looks, the Pushiron’s single red button isn’t just for show… it results in enhanced safety and intuitive use. By twisting it, the design’s bright focal point gives the user complete control to adjust temperature and mode settings. By pressing it, on/off functionality can be toggled and the quick-cooling feature engaged for safety. Simple, easy to use, and aesthetically sleek, the only thing else you need is water to add a bit of steam to your press!

Wireless Inductive Ironing

If you’ve ever had that freak out moment when you can’t remember if you left the iron on then you’ll appreciate this cordless high-tech design. The Smooth Inductor is an energy-saving iron that utilizes a ferromagnetic sole plate system that only heats when in contact with the included induction board. The semitransparent body offers a clear view of the plate and the fact that it’s wireless means it’s free of a cumbersome electric cord.
