Furniture for interior-design-loving introverts!

The Capsule Chair/Sofa set, with its soft felt fabric and its perfect geometric design is simply inviting. Pastel colors and soft curves give the capsule its cozy appeal, while the wood + powder-coated metal frames give it a stability without taking away from the softness. All in all, the Capsule looks like a soft-boiled egg on a wooden-leg egg-cozy. Sit in the Capsule and as your behind sinks into the cushion, you notice your peripheral vision getting narrowed. Its cocoon-esque design covers your sides and your top, blocking not just vision but also absorbing audio, leaving you in a tranquil bubble as you sleep, read, or work. A perfect chair/sofa set for someone who doesn’t want to make idle chit-chat and just wants to be!

A Cast That Doesn’t Suck as Much

cocoon_caster_layout

If you’ve ever broken a bone, chances are you remember just how inconvenient it was to have a heavy, itchy, not-so-hygienic cast. It’s almost as bad as the broken bone itself! Tung-Jun Yang’s proposal, called Cocoon, is an all-new type of cast that aims to be lighter, more breathable, more durable, and quicker-to-set than the old fashioned way.

First and foremost, its structure stabilizes the wrist which is a crucially important step in bone-mending. Unlike plaster casts which have restricted airflow, the Cocoon’s thin layers and perforations keep your body dry and allow for air movement over the skin. Last but not least, its innovative shape can be formed to appendages of varying size making them more economical to produce.

When the brief says “design a recliner/rocking chair/hammock”

cocoon_chair_1

Sitting on the Cocoon is a strangely comforting yet new experience. It looks a little revolutionary, no doubt… but sitting on it gives you an experience that’s difficult to actualize in words. Rest your body against it, and it feels like a hammock, with its woven fabric. However, it doesn’t consume you, like a hammock would. Lie down in a hammock, and the fabric gives in to the shape of your body… lie in the Cocoon, and it feels like you’ve still got some lumbar support. It feels more like a recliner than a hammock. And then there’s experience number three. Designed with a curved frame, the Cocoon swings to and fro, unlike a hammock that swings side by side. The Cocoon somehow manages to combine rocking, lounging, and relaxing all into one beautiful seating device perfect for a lazy afternoon with a cup of hot cocoa… as shown above!

The Cocoon is a winner of the A’ Design Award for the year 2018.

Immersive Fashion for the Mind

cocoon

Aptly named Cocoon, this clever wearable aims to put you in your own personal retreat, even if only for a moment. Designed for those who crave alone time or simply anyone looking for a little R&R, the unit utilizes audiovisual stimulation to relax the body and mind.

Use it as a regular hat that can be pulled over the eyes, or utilize the built-in headphones and controllable LEDs to ease yourself into your unique ideal sanctuary of light and sound. A dedicate smartphone app helps users to control the atmosphere, make adjustments, remember preferred settings, and even hone their breathing technique.

See-Through Cocoon Lets You Live in Your Own Little Bubble

Every once in a while, I feel like being alone and that’s one of the times I feel extremely lucky and fortunate that we have a spare room in the house. Not that I’m a loner or anything, but I just like being able to get away from everyone and everything sometimes.

If I didn’t have a spare room to go to, then I’m sure something like the plastic-shelled Cocoon 1 would be totally up my alley. Although the price, not so much.

Cocoon1The Cocoon 1 is a piece of furniture that you can actually live in. It’s like the Cocoon Tent we saw earlier, only it’s made with a tough and clear material–and, well, it’s not a tent.

Cocoon

Designed by Swiss design group Micasa Lab, the Cocoon is cushy and roomy enough to let people sleep, eat, relax, and do whatever they want by their lonesome while they’re in it. The inside of the Cocoon is modular, so it can be configured as a living, working or even a cooking space. You can even get a Wi-Fi module for surfing the web inside of it.

The Cocoon 1 seems like a concept, but it’s actually an actual product that will be arriving sometime in Fall of 2013.

The only downside? The base model is priced at $2,990(USD), and goes up from there.

Denon Cocoon iPod/iPhone Speaker Dock Won’t Turn into a Butterfly

Denon hasn’t released all that many speaker docks over the years, but their latest offering looks quite good. The Cocoon wireless speaker has an interesting shape and is packed with tech to make you consider this as a good option.

The Cocoon comes in two varieties, one for your home, and a smaller portable version with rechargeable batteries that will last 5 hours. DLNA and AirPlay Wi-Fi streaming takes care of all mobile devices on your home network and you can hook it up with the press of a single button.

The docking mechanism looks swanky and the connector retracts when iOS devices aren’t docked. Unfortunately, it’s only got a 30-pin dock connector, so iPhone 5 users will have to connect wirelessly and cannot take advantage of the charging capabilities.

A white-on-black OLED display on the face of the docking tray can display track information, and also functions as a clock. In terms of sound, it has two-way speakers, double-layer woofers, two bass ports, and four 25-watt amplifiers coupled to a nine-band digital equalizer.

The dock also includes a wireless remote control, which tucks neatly into the back of the dock when not in use. The Denon Cocoon Home sells for $599.99 and Cocoon Portable for $499.99, and they’re both available for order over at Amazon now, though they are currently out of stock.
