Wearable Tech for Stand Tests

cord_01

We laugh at the phrase “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up!” but it’s a serious reality for the elderly and their loved ones. Currently, to identify the causes of falls and blackouts, individuals must wait in long lines at the clinic to undergo an “active stand test” which consists of large, expensive technology. The Cord concept streamlines the existing tech, making it accessible to those afflicted.

The wearable design is mounted to an arm cuff through magnetic connectors. Inside are two pumps that send air to the arm cuff and an extra finger cuff where data is collected. Directly on the device, an intuitive user interface presents nurses and caregivers an easier, streamlined understanding of the process for quicker, smarter, and more accurate diagnosis.

Not only does it identify symptomatic patients earlier so that preventative treatment can be initiated faster, it also aids in reduce the long-term effects of falls and blackouts. Of course, this also means shorter lines at the clinic and more efficient patient visits.

Make Your Cables Stay Put

stay_01

I’m sitting here staring at my messy iPhone charging cable with disdain as we speak! There simply hasn’t been a solution for cleaning up the cable that I find aesthetically appealing… until now! Unlike clunky stick-on or screw-on cable management clips, Stay is a minimalistic solution that uses magnets to hold the cord in place. Simply place the metal object on your desk top or any other surface for a stylish way to keep your cord under control! DO WANT.

ElectroVine is an Extension Cord in Disguise

Extension cords can be an eyesore. But they’re a necessary eyesore if you want most of your appliances and electronics to keep functioning, especially if they’re located in parts of your home that are far from a wall outlet.

Cue the ElectroVine, which makes extension cords more bearable by dressing them up in green.

ElectroVine 620x465magnify

As you’ve probably already gathered, the ElectroVine is basically an extension cord that’s been made to look like ivy. Instead of unsightly orange cords snaking their way around your home, you’ll have these vines adorning countertops and lining the sides of desks and side tables instead.

The ElectroVine is currently up for funding on Kickstarter, where a minimum pledge of $35(USD) will get you a 6-foot cord.

ElectroVine: A Green Extension Cord

ElectroVine

You can’t live with them, you can’t live without them. That applies to a lot of things, extension cords included. Okay, so it’s not like they’re that offensive, but they do make nightstands and shelves and wherever else they can be found look very unsightly. If you’re particular about how your home looks and want an alternative to the usual bright orange cord you’ve got, then here it is: the electroVine.

It gives your home a touch of green, even if it’s artificial. It’s basically an extension cord dressed up in the guise of vine. It adds to the decor of your home while being completely functional at the same time. What’s not to like?

Python Cords Keep Your Chargers From Breaking

Python Cord

The problem isn’t the charger; it’s the cord. I’ve had several chargers for my laptop break and it’s not so much the charger itself than the cord connecting it to my laptop. This is a problem experienced by laptop and Macbook users, especially those who travel a lot. The cord bears the brunt of the stress as you wrap it around your charger or cram it haphazardly in your laptop bag because you’re in a rush to leave.

The solution comes in the form of the Python Cord, which wraps around your charger to fortify and provide extra support at the stress points (and common point of failure for the charger cords) to prevent the cords from breaking.

The fact that Python looks sleek and neat is an added bonus. The Python can also be used as a wire organizer, as you can coil and tuck the cord in the it to avoid making a mess of things.

The Python Cord is currently up for funding on Kickstarter, where a minimum pledge of $13 will get you one of your very own.

Be tangle-free until we’re cable-free!

Untile we go completely wireless, earphone cords and mobile phone charging cables are must haves… which means tangles and knots aren’t going anywhere soon either. The Pop-up Cord Wrap aims to resolve the problem of cable management so they stay organized and tangle-free for easy access. The design contains 3 compartments for different sized cables. Made entirely of rubber, it pops up so cables can be coiled and pushes back to store them neatly. Whichever layer you need, just pop it out!

The PowerCutter Convenience

You may disconnect the charger cable from your device, but the truth is that power consumption continues till you actually switch it off from the mains. We are well aware of this problem and before this Brady Bunch, we have had quite a few designers come up with solutions to resolve it. What we have here is the PowerCutter, a charger cable with a built-in switch inside the socket. One of the entrant wires connects directly to the switch, and it is turned off when the socket is not connected to a device.

As the designers explain, “ thus the main circuit is inoperative and it does not draw energy even though the adaptor is still plugged into the wall outlet. Once the socket is plugged into a device, switch will be operated and the circuit is connected.”

PowerCutter is a 2012 red dot award: design concept winner.
