This sleek, wireless connected Electrolux HumiTex ensures your garments stay dry for longer

Mildew and mold are the biggest enemies of your clothes in the wardrobe, particularly the ones stored away for a long time. Only when you take them out after a season (to the horrors) unwanted build-ups and smells plague your favorite clothes.

This can be utterly irritating and grose, to say the least. Leaving you with a pile of clothes to wash again. Not only that, daily wear can also have such build-ups.

Designer: Electrolux

Sure, most of you opt for dehumidifying bags for the closet to keep garments dry. Electrolux acknowledges this and wants to give us a more sustainable option having better aesthetics and function. Dubbed HumiTex, this dehumidifier keeps unwanted humidity and smelling clothes at bay. The modern appliance circulates air inside the closet keeping everything in balance so that there are no unwanted developments. The slim dehumidifier hangs in the closet and the connected function keeps the user informed whenever it needs to be emptied.

The smart appliance comes with a water container that can be easily removed, and also has a pour spout to eliminate any chances of spillage. Electrolux has made the unit to be completely powered wirelessly or via a hidden cable that runs along the railing on the back side of HumiTex. As far as function, the appliance has radiator fins that cool the air to trigger condensation. The humid air (if any) is drawn from the top side and the condensed water drips into the collection tray.

HumiTex is designed as a consortium of other product ideas for smart homes of the future in collaboration with the Umeå Institute of Design (UID). The ideas revolve around singletons who believe in a micro-home lifestyle. This appliance in particular is designed keeping in mind space-conscious people living in four major cities – New York, Hong Kong, Munich and Mumbai. It took the team around four weeks to design the product.

ROOT Humidifier doubles as a dehumidifier and air purifier

ROOT Humidity Conditioner Release

Humidity conditioners are essential, but there aren’t really many devices with such function. A concept product design was introduced a few years ago by VLND, an Industrial Design Studio based in South Korea. The product design was even recognized at the International Design Excellence Awards, receiving a Bronze prize in the United States.

Called ROOT, this Humidity Conditioner for CAIRS is ideal for places that have dry winters and humid summers. A humidifier must be available to keep the humidity at an ideal level, especially indoors. Having such a device can prevent dry skin during winter and the uncomfortable and sweaty feeling during summer.

Concept ROOT Humidity Conditioner

ROOT Humidity Conditioner for Cairs

ROOT does the job of keeping the optimum level of humidity. It also works as an air cleaner and purifier, which we really need, especially these days. An air purifier dehumidifier is a home appliance that many people can benefit from. It sucks in air from the bottom and then releases the purified air from the top.

The design is based on a traditional Korean brazier. The ROOT is a modern iteration, but instead of providing heat, it helps main the correct humidity level. Its purpose is the same as it helps create a comfortable surrounding for the people.

ROOT Humidity Conditioner Concept Design

ROOT is both a humidifier and a dehumidifier, detecting the humidity level and functions depending on what needs to be done. If the humidity is high, it starts to dehumidify. When humidity is low, it then begins to humidify. It comes with a water tank that may be filled depending on the humidity. You need to empty out the water when it’s filled with too much moisture in the air.

ROOT Humidity Conditioner Details

When the air is dry, you then need to fill the water tank for it to function and do the opposite of humidifying the surrounding. The top of the ROOT features some fine holes. There are lights that indicate the status of the device. Depending on the air quality, the brightness will be adjusted. When the lights blink, you may want to check the water tank to see if it is full or empty.

ROOT Humidity Conditioner Concept

The ROOT is designed to be placed in the center of a space instead of just being placed near the wall. It will perform better if it’s in the middle of the room. The design of this device is something like a furniture item. It doesn’t look dull, but it’s also not overwhelming. It is one interesting piece that can complement the home interior with its industrial minimalist style. The wood texture gives that natural look and feel while the chrome legs offer a bit of a luxurious feel.

This minimalist dehumidifier disguises itself as a table clock

Air quality at home has become a big concern for many people in the past two years, especially during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Although many have started investing heavily in air purifiers and similar devices, others were just content to reduce allergens in the air using dehumidifiers. These home devices are often large or in-your-face appliances that call attention to themselves in a not-so-good way. One concept, however, envisions one that can become a part of the living room decor by posing as a large but minimalist clock.

Designer: Hyeongkwon Lee

At first glance, it’s hard to make out what the CLOCK is, and its name only adds to the confusion. It looks like a fan with its basic form, but the lack of air output immediately refutes that theory. On the other hand, it doesn’t have the telltale signs of a clock, so it almost doesn’t come off as a traditional timekeeping appliance. Fortunately, its pleasing minimalist aesthetic does help catch some attention, making it an interesting visual piece in the room.

The CLOCK concept has the equivalent of hour and minute hands, but neither actually tells the time. The “hour” hand is actually a blue circle that travels along the circumference of the device’s face and acts as a timer for the dehumidifier’s function. The “minute” hand is an LED light strip that always points at the 6 o’clock position and serves as a meter for how much water has been collected inside the dehumidifier’s tank.

The idea, according to the designer, is to have one complete revolution of the circular hour hand to indicate that it has completed one processing cycle. At this point, the air might have already returned to its humid state, and the owner could decide to start the process all over again. The benefit of this clock-based design is that it is easy to tell the state of the machine at a glance and from a distance. Most dehumidifiers, humidifiers, and even air purifiers would require owners to take a closer peek at a small LCD display instead.

The CLOCK dehumidifier is also minimalist in the sense that there are no controls on the device itself. Everything has to be done through an app, which has its perks as well as its drawbacks. It keeps the physical design of the product simple while allowing more information to be accessed from a paired smartphone. The app, for example, can inform you of the exact level of humidity in the air, something that’s not visible on the CLOCK’s face.

On the other hand, being completely dependent on an external device means that it would be impossible to use the dehumidifier when that wireless connection gets broken, which isn’t that uncommon for Bluetooth technology. It wouldn’t have taken anything away from the CLOCK’s minimalist design if some part of that device could actually turn it on or off manually, like a button that’s hidden on its back.

This 4-in-1 smart home appliance is the only butler you need

Quarantine has really shown me that I could never be a butler should I ever plan to switch careers, in fact, I could use a butler to manage all the chores as I work from home. This is the part where I fall in love with Mr. Alfred – no, not Batman’s butler but a smart home appliance that serves as a humidifier, dehumidifier, air purifier, and vacuum. I think this confirms that all men are truly not the same!

Mr. Alfred is a conceptual smart air-management system that looks like an elegant bar cart – the gold rails add a retro finish while the muted grey body gives it rich yet subtle aesthetic. Instead of having four home appliances, you can just have one that does it all while saving space and upgrading your interior game. Mr. Alfred is designed to provide solutions for healthy air in your space by sensing the quality. It is precise and targeted at keeping your space clean. The sleek appliance is made of six important parts – the main body which is responsible to store and charge the detachable parts, a drone that monitors the space, a robot vacuum, an air purifier, humidifier, and dehumidifier. Fun fact: the three air-management parts rest on the robot vacuum that makes them portable.

The rails of the main body help with putting the air-purifier, humidifier, and dehumidifier on the robot vacuum when being used. After the job is done, all parts return to the main body to be stored and recharged. Mr. Alfred also includes a cleaning tool kit with brushes and sprays. The physical form of a trolley was used to match the image of a butler. The wheels make it easy to move around the house and the minimal style lets it become a beautiful furniture piece when not in use. Mr. Alfred has been an iconic butler forever and now it lives in the form of this smart concept design…now only if it also had a feature to shine a symbol in the sky.

This kettle-inspired dehumidifier solves the tedious process of emptying water

Our home appliances are getting more efficient by the day. To stand out in the competitive market, any appliance has to be either be a multifunctional product or be a portable version of its predecessors – and if you have them both in one product, you have a winning design. That is exactly what makes the Humi Pot a product design concept set for success because it combines the best parts of a dehumidifier with an electric kettle.

An appliance is universally loved when it is easily usable which means the fewer steps or behavioral changes it takes, the faster it will become essential in our lives. That is the idealogy the Humi Pot functions on as well, it took the simple inherent gesture of tilting the kettle to pour and applied it to how we use a dehumidifier. The action and function of the two appliances were then mechanically merged to give us a dehumidifier that is inspired by the functional form of a kettle. This solves one of the most cumbersome things about using a dehumidifier – the emptying of the water which now becomes a one-step process. So to empty the water in the Humi Pot, you simply pour the collected water out by slightly tilting the appliance. Cleaning is easy too, just detach the top part and rinse the container like you would with a kettle. Unlike the traditional dehumidifiers, this does not require multiple steps to separate the product parts and put them all back. It is also is very convenient for elderly living without assistance.

Since it is portable, you can set it anywhere you like and it doesn’t have to be tied down to a plug point on the wall. The cheery ergonomic build will brighten up your space up instantly unlike the dull, bulky traditional ones. The Humi Pot serves as a modern dehumidifier while saving space and time because of its smaller, more portable form and the elimination of steps that saves time.

This washer-dehumidifier combo elevates your interiors without steaming up your home

We’ve seen an inclusive washer and dryer, a device that steam irons your clothes and purifies your home, another appliance to cleanse your air and clothes of dust and pollen. Just when you thought you’ve seen it all, we have another cool appliance to add to this list – say hello (from 6 feet away) to Drawsher which is the child of a washer and dehumidifier!

Laundry is one of the most disliked chores and so it is no surprise to me that many of us just let the clothes be in the basket till we run out of fresh underwear. It may not be stinky or filthy, but it is certainly not the most hygienic practice because you are lettings the bacteria from the clothes spill into the air around you. Also, if you don’t air out your washing machine after using it, it can lead to molds and malfunctioning of the appliance. Keeping all these details in mind, designer Kikang Kim created Drawsher which is a sanitary machine that functions as a laundry basket and a washing machine. You’ll notice that it also looks good unlike any washing machine you’ve seen before, and that is because Kim has based the design on a modern dresser that optimizes space and blends well with your interiors.

Drawsher ups your laundry game functionally and aesthetically – say goodbye to hours of sorting clothes, dealing with excessive humidity when it runs a cycle, smelly mold, and appliance upkeep. Keep scrolling to see the design process and find out why we love this washing machine that also doubles up as a sleek piece of furniture.

Designer: Kikang Kim

You don’t have to necessarily keep this washer hidden away because it is as beautiful as a stylized piece of furniture. It truly elevates your interior game without steaming up your apartment.

The main goal was to make doing laundry easier – so you can sort your clothes in the basket as you throw them in instead of sorting a big load on laundry day itself. Plus the dehumidifier helps to not steam up your apartment and clear that wet laundry smell that no Yankee candle can get rid of.

Through line drawing and paper-building, Kim was able to determine the right height for the Drawsher so it doesn’t cause any backache and continues being functional.

The build of the Drawsher is based on that of your modern dressers, it is meant to optimize space by also doubling up as your laundry basket. You don’t need a closet to keep your washer and your dirty clothes, you can have this appliance outside and now have extra space where the laundry basket/laundry room used to be – like a new shoe rack or a pantry room!

The dehumidifier is mounted at the back end of the Drawsher and keeps the laundry hygienic. It helps to keep the bad smell from the laundry baskets away and also the detergent smell when you do your laundry. Having it in-built means no humidity or steam when you use it and less upkeep of the appliance as it keeps away mold and mites.

Sorting laundry is such a tedious task and keeping 4 laundry baskets is simply inefficient. Drawsher has 4 separate compartments that let you sort dirty laundry the minute you throw it in instead of going through a whole pile later. One day, one t-shirt, one basket at a time.

The laundry drawers are seamlessly hidden without handles to keep your dirty laundry from being aired in public!

The lid of the filter is concealed with a rectangular opening so it blends in with the rest of the furniture-appliance aesthetic.

The blue color was chosen to represent freshness and the wood finishes complement it perfectly. The combination of the two is timeless and will fit in almost every interior setting. You can store laundry detergent and fabric softener on the top and control how much is to be used via the display screen.

This purifier’s 4 part cleansing process works on your clothes and your room

Now more than ever we are looking for home appliances that are multifunctional and extra points to those that have additional cleaning or purification functions, right? If I find a keyboard that can also sanitize my hands then maybe I will spend more time working from home, or maybe a coffee mug that also doubles up as a portable facial steamer! The concept of combining purification functionality with a home appliance is a gold mine right now and that is why there is no surprise that the FAD 01/02 clothing and air multi-care system is one of the winners of the Red Dot Design Awards 2019.

This clothes purifier is a mini wardrobe with a large mirror that not only purifies your clothes but also your room when you leave its door open – much friendlier than how my refrigerator acts when I do the same thing with it. As the dust pollution and pollen allergies increase, this sleek home appliance offers a solution by blasting precise gushes of air on the hung clothes to removes the dust and pollen. The continuous air circulation means no particles are left behind on the clothing. It allows you to select settings for different types of clothing items, different materials, and cleansing options on its user-interface screen.

It’s dual cleaning system then sprays nano electrolyzed water onto the clothing, absorbing and removing odor and leftover dust particles. After that, the clothes are dried and dehumidified in a low-temperature setting. The FAD 01/02 ensures your clothes come out clean and wrinkle-free thanks to its intricate 4-part system and a methodical cleansing process. Once your clothes are out, leave the door open and let its dehumidifying and air purifying systems work to cleanse your indoor air as well – works in all seasons too!

The Fad 01/02 is a winner of the Red Dot Design Awards 2019.

This leaf-shaped bottle cap condenses and collects atmospheric moisture, turning it into drinking water

Designed to magically ‘turn air into water’, the Limbe is a new sort of dehumidifier that works without electricity, giving its user access to drinking water throughout the day. Its unique leaf-inspired design harks back to how water droplets condense on the surface of leaves, while its 3D printed intricate PET structure helps guide those water droplets down the ‘veins of the leaf’ into Limbe’s central axis which collects the water in your regular plastic drinking bottle.

Fabien envisioned the Limbe as an easy way to allow people with no access to running water, to easily capture atmospheric water vapor for drinking purposes. While the Limbe works best in high-humidity areas, it can work wonders in deserts and drought-struck regions too, gathering condensed fog in the early hours of dawn, filling up a single bottle. Plus, its ability to be printed or even molded at a relatively low cost means anyone can dehumidify air into drinking water… without electricity!

The Foldable Dehumidifier has a bellow-shaped water tank that expands as it fills up

A characteristic part of every dehumidifier is its water-tank, which pulls water vapor from the air to reduce its humidity. This water vapor condenses to turn into droplets of water that get collected within the dehumidifier, needing periodic emptying out. The bigger the tank, the more its capacity, and as a result, the bigger the dehumidifier. The Foldable Dehumidifier circumvents the problem of having massive dehumidifiers sitting in corners of our households. By essentially mounting the tank on the top of the device and turning it into an expandable bellow-shaped container, the appliance holds the ability to remain small but expand as water collects within it, like a balloon. When filled, the bellow-tank detaches off the appliance, and can be carried around, either being used to water plants, wash your car, or be used elsewhere in the house. Once emptied, the appliance resumes its compact shape, and can easily be stored in closets or tucked away somewhere you wouldn’t normally be able to stash a large appliance.

The Foldable Dehumidifier is a winner of the Red Dot Design Concept Award for the year 2019.

An easy-to-read dehumidifier!

Taking inspiration from a clock, this domestic dehumidifier certainly stands out! Hyeongkwon Lee, the design of the appropriately named, CLOCK, recognized how easily readable clock faces are, even from a great distance, and set out to convey this minimal level of human interaction into a dehumidifier.

CLOCK has been designed with the domestic setting firmly in mind; a simplistic design and fuss-free base allows it to look just at home within a vast variety of differently styled rooms; the combination of bold symmetry and repeated patterns creates a striking device without being shouty.

The monochromatic color of the product is dramatically contrasted with the vibrant blue finish of the ‘hands’. The dial isn’t a clock, but rather an indicator of the dehumidification process’s progress; The circle that navigates the outer-recess displays how much time is left of the cycle, while the vertical LED bar is a digital water level… and most importantly, both are readable from the opposite end of the room!

Designer: Hyeongkwon Lee

HOUR HAND – It shows progress information from the current humidity to the humidity set by the user. When the hour-hand returns to its original position after rotation, the dehumidification is completed.

MINUTE HAND – Through the led lighting, it shows how much water from the dehumidification process is in the water bottle.
