The smart syringe

Medical waste is possibly the most difficult waste to treat. It can’t be recycled, and it can’t even be carelessly disposed. Tonnes of plastic ends up in landfills because of used disposable-syringes. The Single-Use-Band-aid is a brilliant solution to this problem, greatly reducing the use of plastic. Designed as a flexible vial with the syringe needle attached, it comes with a paper apparatus that can be used to inject the contents of the vial into your blood-flow. Its unbelievably intuitive and minimal design seems ideal for medical practitioners in rural areas where the need of the day is to provide cheap and hassle free medical treatment.

Ultimate Bachelor Crockery

plate_oh_1

Given the theme of Bachelorhood (my previous article being about the bachelor’s favorite Multikettle) the next must-have for any bachelor dining space is the Plate-Oh. What is it, you ask? Remember the episodes of Scooby Doo where the gang would pull off the captured villain’s mask to find another mask underneath? Then they’d pull that one off too, and the next and the next till they finally reached the culprit’s face? The Plate-Oh is somewhat similar in principle, except it’s an absolute boon to society. Made of loads of Biodegradable disposable paper sheets compressed together, the plate makes washing dishes a chore of the past. Just peel off the dirty paper layer once you’re done eating to reveal a spanking new layer of paper underneath, waiting to be loaded with all the food your heart desires!

Au Revoir, dishwashers! You won’t be missed!

Tear And Share USB

I love the fun and interactive element given to the GIGS.2.GO, which is a credit-card-sized pack of USB flash drives, with “Tear – and – Share” technology. You just need to tear off a tab and take the handy USB Drive on the go with you! Crafted essentially from 100% post-consumer molded paper pulp, this economical, credit-card-sized data pack is fantastic!

You can even write on the tab directly and label the drive!

Gliph App Creates Anonymous & Disposable Email Addresses

There is always a need for disposable and secure email addresses. I had a bunch of junk Hotmail addresses years ago for handling spam and subscriptions I didn’t want going to my main email address. Thanks to Gmail, I’ve whittled it down to only one, but maybe I should just dispose of it and get the Gliph app. It’s basically, this app is like the Burner app we featured a couple of days ago, but for email addresses.

gliph email app setup burner

Gliph is a free app for iPhones, Android and mobile devices. You can use it to send cloaked messages to other Gliph users or use it to send and receive emails to anyone through your regular email client. An example would be Craigslist transactions, which are always somewhat spammy. Unlike other free services like Gmail and Hotmail, Gliph email addresses are easy to create and delete, and all your emails sent via your addresses come to a central location, so there’s no need to log on onto multiple accounts.

When you open the app, you get to pick a string of 3 to 5 icons that represents you, instead of using a username. You get one free randomly generated email address when you sign up for Gliph, and once you’ve invited at least 5 friends, you can send attachments too.

Ikea cardboard digital camera: when Instagram isn’t authentic enough (video)

Ikea cardboard digital camera: when Instagram isn't authentic enough

Forget TVs. Want something more whimsical and lo-fi than Instagram? This is a digital camera made of cardboard that Ikea included with its press kit at this year's Milan Design Week. It runs on two AA batteries (Ikea-branded, natch) and features a swing-out USB plug, viewfinder cutout, shutter key and paperclip-friendly erase button. While there are no details on the sensor, lens or storage capacity, the camera holds up to 40 pictures. It's expected to land in Ikea stores at some point but exact pricing and availability are still a mystery. No matter -- this camera is sure to impress hipsters everywhere (and yes, that includes us). Awesome demo video after the break.
