The Dronut X1: A Donut Inspired Drone

I was just thinking the other day somebody should combine a donut and a drone, and apparently Boston-based Cleo Robotics was already on the case, developing the $9,800 Dronut X1 – the world’s first bi-rotor ducted drone that can operate in much tighter spaces than traditional drones. Now I can see where this is headed, but there’s no way I’m letting my doctor fly one of these inside me for a colonoscopy. He already misses my knee half the time just checking my reflexes!

The Dronut X1 was designed with military and police applications in mind, has a 1km range, and weighs only 15-ounces with an onboard 4K camera and streaming capabilities. It navigates around its environment “via 3D LiDAR (light detection and ranging), which utilizes beams of light that hit an object or a surface and reflect back to the laser scanner to create a 3D visualization of its environment.” Me? I navigate around my environment with my hands stretched out like a mummy hoping I don’t stub a toe on the way to the fridge for a midnight snack.

The Dronut’s ducted design means no exposed rotors, and no exposed rotors mean it can’t hit anything with those rotors, making it ideal for flying in environments where you don’t want things shredded by a traditional quadrocopter’s spinning blades. I swear, if I had a nickel for every time I’ve stuck my hand in a ceiling fan putting a shirt on in the morning, I might actually be able to afford a $9,800 Dronut.

‘Donut County’ is a love letter to LA

From 2002 to 2014, Dunkin' Donuts didn't exist in Los Angeles. Hell, during that time there was just one Dunkin' store in all of California, at a military base on the state's southern tip. Considering there were more than 7,000 Dunkin' Donuts outpost...

It’s The Donutception, A Donut On Donut On Donut Donut

inception-donut

It seems that it was National Donut Day last Friday, and to celebrate this, The Cinnamon Snail in New York City created the above. It’s a donut that uses donut-shaped cookies as decoration, cookies which in turn are decorated with Cheerio’s like rings that are meant to look like donuts themselves. It’s a donut party three levels deep, a party so intense the bakery felt it appropriate to charge $7 for its consumption. For reference, that’s about seven times more than anyone should feel entitled to charge for a ring of sugary dough, but what do we know.

Are they still selling it? Did anyone even buy it? Seeing as we like to report news a few days late, we’ll never really know.

This Is a Box of 2,400 Krispy Kreme Donuts

Oh. My. Glob. Yes, that is a giant box of Krispy Kreme donuts. A Double Hundred Dozen to be exact. Enough to keep Homer Simpson in doughnuts for at least a week. It might last a month for the rest of us donut fiends.

This is the biggest box of donuts I have ever laid eyes on. It was recently unveiled in London by Krispy Kreme UK for their new Occasions offering. The box is 11.5 ft long and has within it 2,400 Original Glazed donuts. Eight staff members had to work together to fill the box and load it onto the delivery truck, because one guy would have been at it all day. And unsupervised, he also would have eaten a bunch.

This is part of a contest to celebrate the launch of the company’s large-scale delivery service. One lucky business will win this giant box-o-donuts and then they will all call in sick the next day thanks to donut comas and trying to get a house call for their newly diagnosed diabetes.
