This Rolling Titanium Ruler is a Great EDC Fidget Tool for the Creatively Inclined!

Back in 2017 when the fidget spinner was all the craze, it was a pretty great reminder of one fact – digital experiences, social media, addictive apps be damned… There was still something incredibly engaging about a tactile spinner. The fidget spinner craze may have died down soon after, but the joy of fidgeting didn’t. As digital as the world grew since then, tactile experiences still reign supreme, whether it’s the clack of a keyboard, the pop of bubble-wrap, the snap of MagSafe accessories, or the sheer ASMR of playing with a fidget toy. The Tiroler builds on that experience by re-imagining the humble scale/ruler as a new kind of EDC-worthy gizmo. Unlike the average scale, the measuring tape, or those ultra-advanced laser measures, the Tiroler prides itself in being incredibly hands-on and having a user-experience centered around fun. The device assumes the shape of a rolling hubless wheel that has a series of markings on it. Roll it along a surface and you can effectively measure its distance by calculating the distance your roller has traveled. The Tiroler emits a series of satisfying clicks every time it completes a rotation, so all you do is count the clicks and read the number on the Tiroler’s window to know the exact measurement you’re looking for. Aside from that undeniably fun experience, the Tiroler is crafted in the image of a gorgeous piece of EDC (Everyday Carry) too. It comes crafted from titanium, with a hubless design that your fingers will love alongside your eyes. When you’re not measuring objects, surfaces, and distances, the Tiroler is a gorgeous toy that you’ll immediately want to fidget with. That’s more than I can say about any other measuring device or app…

“Tiroler is a revolutionary measuring tool designed to break free from the constraints of traditional rulers,” says designer Suzuki Sho. “With its continuous loop design, Tiroler offers limitless measurement possibilities for irregular shapes, curved routes, and extended surfaces.”

The radial design of the scale breaks away from the monotony of linear scales. Not only does this design approach make it more portable than a regular steel or plastic scale, it also makes the process of measuring more fun, and easier to execute on your own, unlike measuring tapes that can sometimes require two people holding each end of the tape.

The Tiroler comes with a gorgeous all-metal design featuring a rolling ring suspended within a hubless outer body. This makes the roller easy to carry around given that its central cavity acts as a big lanyard hole, but also makes it easy to grip by having your thumb and finger nestled within the negative space. Using the roller is easy, fun, and mildly challenging – a window on the rim lets you see the markings on the roller inside. Set it to zero before you begin rolling along the surface you want to measure. Every time the roller completes a revolution, it emits a click that you’ll hear and feel. Count the clicks and multiply it by 10, then add the number you see on the window to get your final measurement. For example, measuring a distance of 24 centimeters would lead to two clicks (20) and a window reading of 4.

The unique format of the Tiroler makes it perfect for organic non-linear measurements. Whether you’re a fashion designer measuring the cut of a garment, an architect or engineer calculating the length of a curved wall, or even a transport/furniture/industrial designer gauging the distance of a curved surface, the Tiroler’s unique format coupled with its pocket-friendly size makes it a perfect tool to have on you at all times. Its gorgeous full-titanium design sets it apart as functional jewelry – you could string it around your neck as a haute pendant, popping it off whenever you need. Conversely, place it in your pocket, stationery kit, or backpack for use later.

The visual beauty of the Tiroler extends to its tactile joy too. The cold metal feels great in the hand, and the polished surfaces on the Tiroler make for a great interplay between light and shadow. This instantly makes your hand want to fidget with the roller, twirling it in your palms, passing your finger through its oculus, and rolling the measuring ‘bezel’ to create that satisfying click sound.

The Tiroler’s grooved rim prevent it from slipping and sliding during use, ensuring an accurate measurement every time.

Given that the world is divided between Imperial and Metric folk, the Tiroler comes in two different sizes. The Metric Tiroler is much more compact, measuring just 31.8mm (1.25 inches) in diameter, while the Imperial Tiroler is significantly larger at 40.4mm (1.59 inches). Strangely enough, the Imperial Tiroler doesn’t count up to 12 inches or a foot. The clicks occur every 5 inches instead (creating a 12-inch Tiroler would make it massive), which does tend to *slightly* complicate things, especially when you have to calculate feet.

The Tiroler ships globally with free shipping to select countries, and a long-lasting guarantee thanks to its durable, non-corrosive titanium construction that should serve you for years if not decades. The Metric Tiroler starts at a discounted $58, while the Imperial Tiroler has a $69 price tag. You can buy both together for $108, and each Tiroler comes with its own bespoke leather carrying case, allowing you to carry and showcase your beautiful jewel-esque measuring instrument with pride!

Nendo’s ‘Random Top’ finds its equilibrium in a haphazard chaotic design

Nendo’s Random Top tries to dispel the myth that spinning tops need to have some modicum of symmetry. The top basically follows the four conditions required for a spinning top to do what it does (axis, center of gravity, weight, and tip shape) and uses those conditions to bend the laws of aesthetics to create a top that doesn’t look like it could spin, but perfectly manages to!

The Random Top outwardly looks like a fused collection of rectangular blocks, but these blocks play their role within the grander scheme of things. They give the top the weight it needs, and an invisible axis allows the top to spin effortlessly, while the weights help reinforce the top’s rotary motion and keep it vertically spinning. “Using a computational procedure known as a genetic algorithm, the four conditions were evaluated — center of gravity, weight, tip shape, and the axis by which the top is both designed to be spun and easiest to spin, so as to find the optimal combination of the object’s shape and the weights’ position and amount”, says Nendo. The top was then fabricated using 3D printing to help realize its unique shape. The top’s design went through as many a hundred iterations, which were each tested out over 200 times before a top capable of spinning for more than 10 seconds was created.

A Fidget spinner enabled travel tool to keep your travel anxiety at bay!

How many of us have travel anxiety? It could be restless tapping of your feet while waiting at the boarding gate or in-flight fidgeting with the controls, we have all been there. This cool conceptual tool is not only a travel essential but also a fidget spinner that doesn’t look like it came with a happy meal. While most multipurpose tools are a combination of cutters, this titanium variant brings a lot more functionality than opening up like Wolverine’s claws!

When you are traveling there are so many tiny details that might slip our mind, especially when we are backpacking and cannot rely on fancy hotel services or big city solutions. I am sure we have all gotten beers or wine from a local shop only to come to our room and find that we don’t have a tool to open either – that’s when Tspin comes to the rescue. Or the time when we remember to buy the international sim card but forget that little pin to open the slot – another worry that is taken care of by Tspin with its dual nano-Sim card-holder and yes, that little pin! And a major thing if you’re traveling solo – a smartphone stand so that you can be in some of the pictures too or watch Netflix while waiting on your train. It also has a carabiner clip that definitely looks much sleeker than the one in your camping kit.

For all of us who wear glasses, this becomes an everyday carry item with its tiny screwdriver to tighten the frame whenever we need it. It also works as a cable wrapping tool – whether you are traveling or not, your earphones will tangle themselves and this little tool saves us from that frustrating man vs cable fight. Our only word of advice, this titanium concept tool may or may not be bulletproof so don’t go all David Guetta on it!

The fidget spinner made functional

Striking a perfect balance between work and play, want and need, the Multitool Fidget Spinner is weird in a way that makes us like it. With a ceramic ball-bearing center, the spinner spins with the smoothness you’d expect from high-end fidget toys… but more importantly, around its edge are six spokes with six different multi-tools attached.

With two straight screwdrivers, two Phillips heads, and two Torx tips, the fidget spinner has all you’d need to tinker and fix things… and when you’re not, just keep spinning away!

The fidget spinner comes with a zinc alloy body, while each individual tool-bit is made out of Chromium-vanadium steel and snaps magnetically to the fidget spinner’s body, allowing you to store the heads separately and take them out when you need them, but if you ask me, keeping them magnetically attached to the fidget spinner gives the toy much more character!

A Fidget Toy Fit for CEOs

Someone clearly looked at the fidget spinner and concluded that it was noisy, unsafe, childish, and a total waste of time. That someone then went on to redesign it, perfect it, and then the ONO Roller was born. Fidget spinners are toys, the ONO Roller is a mentally and physically therapeutic product.

Touted as the professional way to fidget, the ONO is calming, safe, and most importantly, noiseless. It doesn’t distract you from your work, and the fact that it doesn’t make noise as well (as compared to fidget spinners/cubes or those clicking pens) makes it ideal for the workplace… a place where stress is usually at its highest point. The ONO models itself on a roller… Built with two rolling drums and an I shaped midpiece, the ONO can not only be used discreetly as a fidget spinner/roller to help maintain focus and keep your hands busy, but its inherent design allows it to work as a massager as well. Perfect for distracted minds as well as sore muscles, the ONO is great for long hours at the office, or unwinding on weekends, or just rolling against your sore muscles after a strenuous gym session.

Made entirely from machined aluminum, the ONO feels robust and solid to hold. The metallic surface is hard and can really de-stress those muscles, plus its cold smooth metal body feels great in the palms. For a roller/spinner touted as a professional stress-relieving product, the ONO comes in color variants fitting to be placed in any office. Available in the classic silver, anodized black, and rose gold variants, you can choose a fidget roller that matches your smartphone, or your office decor. The ONO helps you maintain focus, stay relaxed, and keeps bad habits like nail biting or foot tapping at bay. Fidget spinners are for pre-pubescents and teenagers. The ONO Roller is for boosting productivity and focus in the active workplace.

By curling your fingers or lightly squeezing your hand, ONO will rotate and roll within your fingers. Change direction by curling your fingers in reverse. ONOs patent pending design engages your entire hand in a continuous, effortless motion.

How often do find yourself impulsively reaching for your phone just to stay occupied? Alternately, pick up an ONO Roller to keep your hand and mind active instead of distracted! The rotating movement keeps your fingers, hand, and forearm in use at all times, helping to promote dexterity all while having fun.

Antzy Top Review: The Coolest Fidget Spinner

Fidget spinners get a lot of hate. I think it’s in part because the name implies that the people who play with these things can’t control themselves, which isn’t the case. I can sit still as long as I want, but it’s kind of fun to have something in your hands you can fiddle with. I bought my daughter a cheap plastic fidget spinner at the local Walmart because it had the American flag printed on it and she is all about ‘merica.

She loved that thing and carried it all around with her for weeks spinning it as she walked the dog or watched TV. She can keep still too, but it’s fun to play with. The problem with that cheap fidget spinner is that it would spin maybe a handful of times before you had to flick it again.

The folks behind the Antzy Top sent me over what seems to me to be the highest quality fidget spinner on the market. This thing isn’t made out of cheap plastic, it’s machined out of pure stainless steel. It also has super high quality bearings inside allowing it to spin for up to five minutes with a single flick and no noise at all.

That means you can spin this thing in a crowded room and no one hears a thing. If you want a bit more bling in your spinning, it also comes with some cool cylindrical LED lights that you can place in the holes on each of its three arms.

When you twist those LEDs they start to blink multiple colors and you can spin with bright lights in the dark. Those lights are seriously bright, like don’t look straight into the light bright .The Antzy Top is incredibly well made and fun to play with. The bearings inside the spinner are steel R188 bearings and the LEDs are powered by lithium cell CR927 3V batteries that you can purchase almost anywhere. The batteries promise to last for 4-5 weeks of continuous and heavy use. The average Antzy Top user will see the batteries last much longer than that.

The Antzy Top comes packed in a tin can with a pull off lid, and has a foam holder inside shaped just like the top, perfect for keeping the Antzy Top secure when you aren’t playing with it.

The Antzy Top started first on Indiegogo and raised over 300% of its funding goal. Now, you can buy the awesome little gadget for $55 at the Antzy Top website. If you are tired of noisy or poorly spinning fidget spinners, that price is worth it. If your kid is into fidget spinners, they will be the envy of all their friends with the fast and long-spinning Antzy Top.

Rocket-powered Fidget Spinner: Can’t Touch This

Another fidget spinner. I promised myself I wouldn’t post another article about them. Because they suck. And I keep getting sucked back in because people are actually doing some interesting things with these idiotic toys. So the boss is like, write it, and I write it, but I am so done with these things. This time, we have a rocket-powered fidget spinner.

The Backyard Scientist took some model rocket engines, and attached them to a custom spinner, making it crazy fast and crazy dangerous.

This phenomenon can be over now. Right? Please stop it with the fidget spinners everyone. You can’t top a rocket-propelled, right? Unless you make a giant sized, multi-spinner with rockets, of course.

FYI fidgeters, stop fidgeting and learn some control, but if you really have to, real men use rocket powered fidget spinners in their hand. (No please don’t try that. But it’s true, so just stop it. You aren’t that manly.)

This Mario Fidget Spinner is Animatedly Awesome

As a child of the ’80s we didn’t have fidget spinners when I was growing up. We also had to walk uphill both ways in the snow to school, but that is another story. The closest we had to a fidget spinner in my house was twirling the TV remote between your fingers until it shot across the room and bounced off the all glass console TV screen, and the punishment that followed. I’d have totally played with a fidget spinner, unlike some of my snobbier cohorts who like to complain about them but still write about them around here.

The coolest fidget spinner that I have seen yet is this animated Mario fidget spinner. When you spin this thing it looks like Mario is running and it may be the coolest thing I have seen all week. This custom is form aPyroDesign and you can buy these things on the designer’s Etsy store.

They are made from laser cut aluminum and made to order. They also make several other styles, each with a cool pattern that comes to life when they get up to speed:

You can get them for $12 each, which is a bargain and if my daughter sees this i’ll have to buy one
