This handsome flask concept will help you get that water habit down

Everyone knows we need water to survive. Some are even aware that we need a certain amount of water each day to stay healthy. Few, however, boast that they are able to meet the minimum amount that their bodies need, often drinking only during meals or when they’re already feeling thirsty due to dehydration. Most of the time, it’s mostly due to being too busy to even remember to drink, and not many people make an effort to set regular reminders to do so every day. Of course, we now have technologies that can make that a thing of the past, like this smart bottle that reminds you to drink up while looking stylish on your desk.

Designer: Arthur Leroy

It’s still an extremely small and niche market, but there are already a number of water bottles that are adding a few tricks to get people to drink more and stay healthy. Almost all of these come in a typical water bottle shape, that is, a large cylinder with a small mouthpiece. Some add colors and patterns to add a bit of variety and life, but that’s not the only design possible for this kind of container.

WATR takes its form after a hip flask, one that’s completely flat rather than curved. It’s a shape that most will probably associate more closely with alcoholic drinks, but there are water bottles that do have this kind of design. While some might argue that it is less efficient in terms of the volume it can hold, it’s hard to argue that its unconventional shape makes it eye-catching, especially when done in a very distinctive style such as this.

The smart water bottle’s absence of curves, save for the bottle cap, gives it an industrial aesthetic, while the thin bar of light at the top makes it feel almost futuristic. That light bar indicates the amount of water you have consumed, which can be set through a mobile app, as well as the bottle’s battery level. All the action, however, happens on that mobile app, particularly when it comes to reminding you to take a gulp.

The WATR design also takes a few steps toward sustainability, particularly in how easy it would be to replace parts as well as the use of recycled aluminum for the main body. All the electronics are crammed into a module that can be swapped easily with a replacement. Whether that’s the best place for such electronics, however, will probably depend on how waterproof it will be. There’s still some room left for improvement, particularly with the smartness of the water bottle. It can, perhaps, be made to detect how much water is actually left inside to warn the owner that it’s time to fill it up again. Nonetheless, it’s a refreshing take on the standard smart water bottle design, one that could stand proudly on your desk even when you’re not actually using it.

This compact food pod keeps your meal at its perfect temperature anywhere you go

Whether we plan on eating at the office, having a meal outdoors, or sharing food at a friend’s house, we’ve all come across the joys and sorrows of moving food from one place to another. Extra care has to be taken that the food doesn’t spoil while also retaining its ideal temperature, be it hot or cold. Spilling food, especially sauces, is a huge disaster, and it happens too often to be called an accident. Containers that can prevent all these mishaps from happening do exist, but, more often than not, you pay for that with their bulky and heavy bodies. What should be an enjoyable meal can turn into a hellish preparation, which is why The Pod almost feels like a miracle, carefully carrying your favorite food inside, ready to be enjoyed at its best, anytime.

Designer: Omi Labs

It might still have a stigma of being a kid’s school accessory, but lunch boxes have become an adulting thing, too, especially when it means being able to eat healthy and save money. They also come in different designs, shapes, and functions, with some simply holding food while others can also keep them hot or cold for a little while. Some also have different compartments for different kinds of food, but mixing foods that have different temperatures often results in soggy, unappetizing meals when it’s finally time to take them.

The Pod solves all these problems in a form that’s no larger than an iPad. Despite its compact size, it can hold around 1,500ml of food without spilling them. Better yet, you can put different foods in different containers, and they each keep to themselves without mixing smells, temperatures, and tastes. Say goodbye to soggy noodles, cold soup, melted ice, and spilled sauces, all thanks to this innovative thermal lunch box with a minimalist style that you can match to your personal tastes.

The secret to the Pod can be found in its two main parts. The Pod itself is a flask that uses 316 medical-grade stainless steel and a Japanese-inspired five-layer composition that keeps hot food hot and cold food cold for hours. This leak-proof container has a 13cm diameter opening that is equivalent to a typical soup bowl, making it convenient to scoop out your meal or enjoy it directly from the flask.

An equally important part of the Pod is the FDA-approved and BPA/BPS-free Silicone Container that literally adds another layer to your meal-to-go. In addition to being a place to put your food in, the container itself can be safely placed inside microwaves and freezers to prepare your food before you jet. Of course, it’s also dishwasher safe, so cleaning the silicone bowl shouldn’t be yet another cause of stress.

Just as bringing your own healthy meal is a lifestyle choice, the Omi Pod can also be a personal expression. In addition to your choice of pastel color, you can also swap out the silicone strap with an eye-catching signature rainbow design to match your style. Starting at just $68, this compact and stylish food pod will keep your favorite food at its best, removing all the prep worry and letting you enjoy that scrumptious meal just the way you like it, even when you’re not at home.

The Baby Flask Is the Best Way to Sneak Booze

Pure genius Instructables user mikeasaurus has created step-by-step instructions detailing how to create a Baby Flask, a doll baby in a chest-mounted baby carrier you can fill with booze. A lot of booze too. Goodbye, hip flask, hello, Baby Flask!

The Baby Flask consists of a baby carrier holding a doll with all its stuffing removed and replaced with a 2-liter hydration bladder. The straw from the bladder comes out of the baby’s forehead, so it looks like you’re just kissing your baby on the head whenever you’re drinking. As far as genius inventions go, this might actually rival the wheel or inclined plane.

As Mike points out, if anyone asks to see your baby, you can just dismiss them with a “Shhhh, she’s sleeping.” Of course, that may be easier said than done, considering I already had a baby carrier and hydration bladder but no doll, so I had to use a Godzilla toy instead. Fingers crossed that everyone just thinks it’s a really ugly baby.

Hip Flask Nunchucks: For a Drunken Master

Weapons and booze: as a general rule, they don’t mix well together. But did that stop Anvirtue from producing these hip flask nunchucks? No, it did not. I can already feel the welt on my leg swelling because I tried showing off my amateur nunchuck skills after emptying both flasks down my gullet.

Available on Amazon (affiliate link), the flaskchucks are constructed from stainless steel and feature leak-proof screw-top seals. Unfortunately for anybody looking for a flask with decent carrying capacity, each individual tube only holds 40mL (~1.35oz), for a total of about two shots of liquor. That is not very much liquor. That is more than enough blood for a magic potion though.

When reached for comment about the nunchucks, famed Ninja Turtle and party animal Michelangelo informed me he doesn’t drink, but he doubts these would be much use against the Foot Clan. He also smacked my hand with a real nunchuck when I reached for a slice of his pizza.

The Swiss Army Knife of outdoor bottles lets you brew coffee/tea, or even infuse your water

There’s more you can drink on a camping trip than just coffee and beer, you know? It’s possible to have other beverages, both alcoholic and not, in the great outdoors… you just need to look beyond your portable coffee brewer and your beer-cooler. Yes, you could carry teabags, CapriSun pouches, juice-boxes, or a variety of other paraphernalia that would end up generating waste… or you could keep an All-Day Adventure Flask handy.

The All-Day Adventure Flask by Hibear helps you expand your options when it comes to drinking in the outdoors. To begin with, it comes with an insulated stainless steel body, functioning as a thermos that keeps your drinks hot or cold for hours. The flask itself works as intended, but its split-body design lets you quickly unscrew the top of the bottle and invert it, turning it into a wide-mouth pour-over kit for your coffee. Just line it with a filter, fill it up with your grounds and you’ve got yourself some fresh coffee… but wait, the same setup works well for decanting wine too, aerating it to bring out its flavors and notes. The bottle’s internal glass finish prevents your wine from tasting like your pourover.

Aside from its split-top design, the flask even features a variety of modules that let you create a myriad of drinks outdoors. A mesh container lets you infuse water, brew tea, or cold-brew coffee, while a slatted lid turns the flask into a cocktail shaker. If you need to instantly chill a beverage, the flask’s thermal core fits right into it, bringing your drinks to the perfect chilled temperature without diluting them with ice. You could go ahead and drink directly from the bottle or just pop out the silicone tumbler built into the base for a nifty cup to drink from. The cup’s material withstands high temperatures and is non-toxic, making it a great drinking vessel for humans as well as accompanying pets.

For something this versatile, the All-Day Adventure Flask also comes with a robust, durable design, fit for the rugged outdoors. A Red Dot Design Award winner for the year 2020, the flask’s outer body sports a powder-coated finish to give it a vibrant color as well as a protective layer from the elements. The inside of the flask features a non-breakable glass-finish that’s easy to clean, doesn’t impart a metallic taste to your drinks, and prevents the growth of mold. When you do want to clean the glass, it opens up to give you wider access for your hands. The silicone cup rinses easily under water, and the fact that it fits into the base of the flask allows it to act as a shock-absorber in case you ever drop your flask. Whether you’re at a campsite, a beach, trekking up a hill, or trudging through snow, the All-Day Adventure Flask gives you the gift of variety, letting you brew coffee or make hot-chocolate in cold weather, or have cucumber-infused water or a boozy screwdriver while you’re lazing in the sand overlooking the ocean. The flask comes with a 32-ounce capacity, a 5-year warranty, and is available in a variety of colors. It’s built to be carbon neutral, and the fine folks at Hibear even pledge to commit a percentage of the profits from the All-Day Adventure Flask to help the environment with 1% for the Planet. You can go ahead and say cheers to that with a beverage of your choice!

Your coffee/tea cup is made out of ceramic… so why isn’t your thermos?

We drink most of our favorite drinks in porcelain/ceramic. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate. They all taste better out of a good old ceramic mug or cup, don’t they? Ceramic has been favored for years for being good at retaining a drink’s temperature for longer, while remaining inert enough to not alter its taste. Their non-porous nature also makes them ridiculously easy to clean too… so here’s my question. Why are most thermoses and flasks made out of metal instead?

Metal flasks may be easy to mass-manufacture but storing drinks (especially mildly acidic ones) in metal containers can often alter their taste. It’s basically the same reason why you never drink wine out of a stainless-steel glass… and that should ideally extend to your coffee and tea too. Designed around that very distinction, Kokoro’s thermal flasks come with a porcelain interior, mirroring the very aspects of your at-home drinkware in a closed tumbler that’s easy to carry around with you. Unlike most flasks with chrome-plated metal inner vessels, Kokoro’s interior is made entirely from kaolin-clay-based porcelain. The inert material holds all sorts of beverages without altering their chemical composition. Porcelain clay can withstand extreme temperatures without expanding or contracting like metal, and most importantly, porcelain is incredibly easy to clean under running water, given how microscopic its pores are. That also means the Kokoro flask will never end up smelling like chicken soup because of that one time you decided to drink it out of a travel thermos.

The flask comes with a stainless-steel outer body that’s resistant to damage but fitted on the inside is the porcelain inner-vessel using a BPA-free fastener. This means you can easily clean the porcelain vessel or even replace it if something were to ever happen to your flask. The high-quality porcelain’s physical properties make it perfect for any sort of beverage – it keeps drinks hot for over 8 hours, and cold for a full 12 hours. Designed sustainably, the Kokoro flasks are assembled using physical fixtures (there’s zero glue used in the process) and can be unassembled and reassembled if you ever want to replace parts or clean the entire flask top to bottom. Each flask comes with an air-tight lid that uses a silicone gasket to seal the flask and an integrated handle to carry it around, along with a detachable porcelain strainer that lets you brew tea right within the thermal or infuse fruits into your water. The Kokoro is available across two sizes, a regular (440ml) and a large (550ml), and sports a variety of colors, including some pretty nifty looking print variants… perfect for a summer day, whether it’s indoors or out!

Kokoro – Porcelain Thermal Flask

The Kokoro is a stain and smell free thermal flask. With an interior made of replaceable 100% Fine Porcelain, keeping beverages hot or cold for over 8 hours.

Suitable for All Kinds of Beverages

Some beverages are not suitable to be placed in stainless steel flask. Common issues are metallic taste, change of smell or aroma of beverages and metal leaching.

Stainless steel thermal flask can leach chemical to acidic beverages, and will stain when used for long period of time. Iron, chromium and nickel were all found to leach into both alkaline and acidic foods and beverages such as coffee, tea, citrus juice, milk and many more. However, with porcelain interior, the Kokoro is 100% BPA Free and free from metal, chemical leachings.

Porcelain preserves your beverages authentic taste.

Naturally Easy to Clean

Porcelain are made from kaolin clay and fired at temperatures as high as 2,600°F. This makes porcelain pores extremely fine, making it easy to clean and prevent any stain and smell to linger on it.

Say Goodbye to Coffee Stains

What is the main difference between porcelain and ceramic? The difference is the size of surface pores. Ceramic has relatively larger pores compared to porcelain, resulting in stain might still occur in common ceramic. Which will not happen in porcelain.

No Peeling Off

Ceramic coatings is only a coating, it might peel off and having the risk of peel off residues to be consumed. The Kokoro interior is made of 100% Solid Fine Porcelain.

Replaceable Porcelain Interior

In addition of all, if something unfortunate happened and the porcelain is damaged, it is replaceable. Making Kokoro the most sustainable porcelain thermal flask.

100% Chemical Free

Using their Japan patented unique construction design, Kokoro’s assembly method is free from any chemical and metal leaching.

Integrated Porcelain Strainer

Kokoro’s porcelain tea strainer design allows users to drink tea without the mess. It is suitable to be used for loose tea as well.

Built-in Handle

It comes with a built-in handle. Making it easy to be carried and mobile.

Leak Proof Silicone Cover

Made of 100% baby safe silicone material. Able to withstand heat for up to 237°F / 113°C.

100% Leak Proof

Double Wall Insulation

Kokoro’s exterior is made out of 304 high-grade stainless steel with double wall insulation feature. It is able to keep your beverages hot for up to 8 hours and cold for up to 12 hours.

Durable Exterior Finishing

Wingback’s hip-flask explores a radically different pocketable form

Hear the word hip-flask and you immediately picture a curved, rectangular metal container with a lid. The hip-flask’s design is surely archetypal, and most would say that it isn’t a design to be reinvented or toyed with, but that’s not how the design industry works. Deciding that it’s time to give the trusty old hipflask a functional and aesthetic facelift, Alasdair MacLaine created the 100ml Hip by Wingback, a novel-looking flask that opts for a more secure, machined-to-perfection cylindrical design. The redesigned flask – designed and manufactured in the UK – brings new features to the table. It sports a wider neck that’s easier to fill liquids into, as compared to the thin-mouthed generic hipflasks. It also makes the Wingback easier to clean, thanks to its cylindrical build.

Its wide cylinder design is the perfect combination of function and portability. It’s aptly sized to comfortably sip from or fill into, and the perfect width to carry around too… whether in your hand, or your pocket. The 316 Stainless Steel construction gives it its strength, and its CNC milled design means that the Wingback has a higher wall thickness than those flimsy sheet-metal flasks, and comes made out of a single billet of steel, rather than being soldered and welded like most flasks. Its design is the result of a fine set of processes and materials, and they in turn result in a product that looks unique, feels reliable, lasts longer, and is absolutely a class above the rest.

The hipflask comes crafted from aerospace grade stainless steel, and was built with the purpose of being a healthier, food-grade alternative to your granddad’s silver or pewter flasks (which often contained traces of lead), and was made to hold its shape and last longer. Unlike regular broad hipflask designs that can’t be cleaned, Wingback even built a removable base into its cylindrical design, giving you the ability to clean inside and out, keeping your hipflask as good as new (because the last thing you want is for your alcohol to mix with traces from the previous batch.) For personalization, Wingback even offers custom laser engraving on the base of every flask, making it an ideal keepsake for yourself, or a gift for someone special.

“Our aim is to create iconic designs that will last as long as you do,” says designer and Wingback founder Alasdair MacLaine. “And we believe good design includes minimizing the impact our products have on the environment. We source the highest quality materials from trusted local suppliers in the UK and Europe and all our packaging is 100% recyclable.”

Weighing a mere 180g, the Wingback has a capacity of 100ml, and boasts of a design that helps reinvent the century-old pocketable-flask design. Oh, and it even packs a bottle opener on its base to keep the good times rolling!!

The Hydro Flask Cooler Cup is a life-saver for those hot summer picnics

Insulated sleeve to keep your beverages chilled - Hydro Flask Cooler Cup

I imagine that there are just a few things that are worse than drinking lukewarm beverages in the heat. Imagine cracking open a chilled can of soda, taking a sip, and then forgetting about it for a minute only to find that the soda is now at room temperature. It doesn’t taste the same, does it? Certain drinks are best served chilled, but the minute you’re outdoors, you’re left with a very small window of time before those drinks ‘lose their cool’.

The Hydro Flask Cooler Cup greatly expands that window of time. Designed to keep your chilled beverages frosty (or even keep hot drinks hot), the Hydro Flask Cooler Cup is a versatile little holder for your bottle/can that allows the drinks within them to maintain their temperature for longer. A silicone sleeve allows you to snugly and securely fit your drink can or bottle into the Cooler Cup, letting your drink stay refreshingly cool for longer.

The Hydro Flask Cooler Cup comes made from recycled stainless steel, and with a proprietary construction that insulates liquids you put inside it. In fact, aside from using it as a holder for your bottle or can, you can directly use the Cooler Cup as a tumbler/glass by directly pouring drinks into it! Basically anything to escape drinking room-temperature beverages again…

The Hydro Flask Cooler Cup is a winner of the iF Gold Award for the year 2019

This Flask Looks Like a Popsicle

If you’re trying to be stealthy about your drinking, you might want to try one of those flasks that look like other things. You might be able to hide your need to imbibe. Although I’m not sure that this popsicle flask is the way to go. Something tells me that this isn’t going to fool anyone.

“Daddy, why is that man drinking from a popsicle? Because that’s the sad world we live in, sweetie.” You can get these stainless steel flasks from Fred for $20 each. They come in raspberry and grape color options, and hold three ounces of your favorite booze. That’s right. Only three ounces. Most traditional flasks hold eight ounces. You might as well just freeze some booze and make your own adult popsicle.

Plus, this thing just makes you look silly. mean no one is going to notice you drinking from a popsicle right? Because that’s totally normal. But if you must, go ahead and get your drink on with this flask. You might be able to get away with it if you’re an ice cream truck driver, but if that’s the case you probably shouldn’t be drinking on the job anyway.
