Game of Thrones Iron Throne Pop-Up Greeting Card

Pop up greeting cards are not just for kids! Like this one from the very adult series Game of Thrones (perhaps you’ve heard of it?), it’s a Pop-Up Iron Throne Greeting Card. Open up this 5″x7″ card and up pops that iconic throne from the HBO series. The cool thing about this highly detailed unique greeting card is that the recipient (if you don’t keep one for yourself!) can display it on their desk or a shelf or car dashboard or on their own throne, even if it’s a porcelain one.

Now the track record of weddings in Game of Thrones is a little, well, spotty but certainly very memorable. So that makes this card the ideal wedding card as long as you don’t plan on attacking the groom’s side of the family during the reception. Or even if you are planning a bloodbath, the least you can do is give the bride and groom a nice card. Ok maybe it’s better suited as birthday or Christmas card then. No matter, it’s cooler than giving yet another Peanuts card.

Wooden Greeting Cards: Cardbots Go!

If you ask me, greeting cards are not fun to give or receive. The only time any of us really like to get them is when they have money in them. Greeting cards are also expensive with a nice card costing nearly $5 these days for something you know will get tossed in the trash shortly after it’s given.

ThinkGeek has some very awesome greeting cards that I guarantee won’t get thrown away. These cards are mailed in a normal envelope but instead of boring paper inside, the person receives a thin wood board.

The boards have die cut-parts on them that you punch out. All those letters in whatever card you choose then build a tiny little wooden robot. You can get cards that say “Congratulations,” “Happy Birthday,” or “Thank You” for $7.99 each. These are the first cards I’ve seen that I think are worth giving and getting.

Greeting Games: Sentiment DLC

A new online service called Greeting Games lets you attach a mini-game to a digital greeting card. The hilarious thing about the service? The recipient has to beat the game before he can read your message. Which means you can send Greeting Games to both loved ones and sworn enemies.

The mini-games involve the usual suspects, including match 3, Sudoku, word hunting, mahjong as well as Fruit Ninja clones, just given a different coating. The games are playable over any fairly modern device, including tablets and smartphones.

According to Polygon, aside from the prize message you’ll also be able to “add in-game messages as well as set the difficulty level, customize any attached messages within the card’s email and link their Facebook profile picture to the card.”

Greeting Games is free to use until the end of January. After that you’ll either have to pay an as yet undisclosed amount per card or sign up for a subscription to get discounts and other bonus features, such as “the option to send the same Greeting Game to several people.”

I wouldn’t be surprised if this becomes a hit, but I think it would be much better if the games were intentionally silly, easy to beat and ripped off game titles and aesthetics for more laughs. Like, there could be a Card of Greeting: Birth Ops 2. As it is I’d rather send an actual game to my loved ones.

Star Wars Christmas Cards: Happy Hothidays

Christmas is here and if you think you might need to send out Christmas cards this year, and you happen to be a geek get your credit card ready. Artist P.J. McQuade is selling some very cool Christmas cards over on Etsy. These cards feature some of the most popular and famous scenes from the Star Wars films, updated for the holidays.

The cards show representations of famous Star Wars characters in holiday guise. I particularly like Chewie with the reindeer horns on his head. I also like the slave Leia card and the Yoda card. Really, I like them all.

There is even a card with Mos Eisley celebrating Christmas and the Jabba the Hutt decked out in his Santa hat.

Deodorant That Plays Rocky Theme Song When You Open It

Epic hygiene win! An 11 year came up with this hack! Super genius and kid of the year candidate Quinn Sheeran took the insides out of a music playing greeting card and attached it to an Old Spice deodorant stick. Because there’s nothing that gets you more pumped up and ready to go like the Rocky Theme- nothing. Watch him demonstrate it in this video:

This kid is going places for sure. Just not on a airplane because the TSA would probably freak the hell out if you showed up at the airport with this. (via reddit)

Videogame Currency Poster: How Many Mushroom Kingdom Coins is One Rupee?

Like the various countries in the real world, different videogames have different currencies. deviantART member/virtual economist/pun visualizer Matt Cowan pulled the exchange rate for various game currencies right out of his witty ass and created this funny artwork.

You can buy Bureau du Change as a t-shirt, hoodie, poster and more on Matt’s Red Bubble store. Forget about knowing where all the items come from; in what currency are those numbers supposed to be in? Dollars? MS Points? FTL Scrap?

GamerPrint Christmas Cards: Thought +1

We’re almost at the final level of this year. I know you’re still resting from beating the Thanksgiving buffet and wounded from your encounter with the Black Friday hordes, but we must be steadfast! The last big holiday of the year is upon us. Some say the world might even end before it gets here! Or worse, the world doesn’t end and you’ll have to withstand a second wave of your relatives and in laws, so soon from their last assault! So stock up on cheer while there’s still time. These cards should help.

For Fathers Who’ll Take Force Lightning to the Face for Their Kids

If you didn’t jump into a reactor core when it dawned on you that your dad was your dad, you should definitely get him something for Father’s Day.  Something like this Darth Vader greeting card.

The card was made by Etsy seller Method Letterpress, but unfortunately it’s sold out. I don’t think it would be that hard to copy this design though. I’m sure your local printing shop can pull it off. Or just grab your dad and point to this post. I’m sure he’ll get the message. He’ll get that his child is a lazy ungrateful geek who reads awesome blogs.
