This isolated cabin-on-a-rock makes for the perfect getaway from civilization

If ever there was a time to just pack your bags and live in isolation, this would probably be it. Imagine escaping society’s problems, traffic, unrest, the weather, the news, annoying neighbors, and just taking a break on something as idyllic as this Ocean Cabin. Designed by Sri Lanka-based Thilina Liyanage, the Ocean Cabin is a neat, A-frame cabin precariously built on a giant boulder facing the ocean.

The A-frame design gives the cabin a sharp, jagged appeal that matches the rocky beach below… but the interiors are exceptionally warm and inviting, with an all-wood design, and a bar-counter to greet you as soon as you enter! You’ll have to climb multiple flights of stairs before you make it in; although, on a sunny day, that should give you a spectacular view of the coast ahead of you as well as of the lush greenery behind you. The cabin sits on stilts, giving you the advantage of altitude during high tides, while the complete glass-facade on the front of the cabin ensures you always have a panoramic ocean-facing view during the day. When the sun sets, the slanted skylight on the back ensures you sleep under a blanket of stars. Airbnb, give this designer a medal!

End this 2020 nightmare before Christmas with these festive product designs!

Christmas is literally here, and it is for sure my favorite time of the year! It’s the season of spreading joy, warmth, love and of course…presents! Whether you’re gifting something to your loved ones, or simply treating yourself to something festive, these designs promise to spread joy to one and all. You can add them to your home space, and make your Christmas just a little bit more special. From a uniquely minimal Christmas Tree to festive cookie cutters, we’ve got you covered, irrespective of whether you’ve been naughty or nice!

NICHBA Design created a handmade, full-size Christmas tree in the most minimal way possible! This tree is the definition of simple and minimal. Weighing 50 kgs, this super light tree will satisfy any real minimalist. Standing tall at 73 inches, this unique tree will blend in perfectly into your modern home, but also manage to stand out at the same time.

The Sweet Deer is a rocking-horse-inspired cookie cutter. Designed to clearly get children to help with food prep, the cutter comes in the shape of a reindeer on a rocking base. The rocking base comes with tapered edges that help it cut into the dough, allowing kids to cut out cookies while playing with their forest friend! The Sweet Deer is 100% food safe and comes made from High-Quality Silicone.

This finished rendered timepiece is called Majestic and it certainly upholds its title. The watch is ladened with golden cogs and candy accents that instantly inspire visions of whimsical toymaker’s storefronts with snowy rooftops and chimneys billowing with smoke -think Willy Wonka meets watch-making! The watch’s interior depth is hypnotizing for its five-layered dial and latticed network of exposed sprockets and gears.

Partnering with artist Emma Tissier, Wacaco’s Nanopresso now comes in a bright red color, complete with seasonal artwork. Titled the Red Tattoo Pixie Edition, this Christmassy coffee maker is set up for a limited run, and comes with its own EVA foam case for you to carry around. Just add your coffee powder or pod and some hot water, let the pressure build-up and pour the freshest espresso right into Nanopresso’s cup.

The Four Seasons Shakers are quite literally perfection. Capturing four different types of seasoning, and embodying them in snow-globe-esque containers, Qualy Design’s Four Seasons shakers are just simply clever and adorable at the same time. The salt shaker has a fir tree, making the salt crystals look like snowflakes forming a rich white layer on the floor. The pepper shaker comes with a cactus inside, turning the shaker into an arid desert scene. For the dried herbs, you’ve got a regular fern, while the herbs look almost like a bed of aromatic grass, and lastly, the chili flakes shaker comes with a barren tree, making the flakes look like shed leaves in autumn.

The SNO Tree quite literally reinvents the Christmas light by not being a light you put on a Christmas tree, and instead of being a Christmas tree-shaped light! Its warm, soft, familiar aesthetic appeal comes from the Doolight we’ve spoken a great deal about in the past. The SNO Tree is an ambient tabletop lamp that comes with a soft glow, courtesy of the soft silicone, tree-shaped lampshade around an LED light that emits its warm glow.

The HexFlex Multitool is the perfect combination of functional and festive-themed. It fits 14 incredibly useful tools into its small frame and comes with a keyring attachment so you’ve always got it on you. Made from stainless steel, this incredibly season-appropriate multitool comes with two Phillips screwdrivers, a flathead screwdriver, three hex drivers, a box-cutter, a bottle opener, and six different wrenches cleverly integrated into its snowflake-shaped design.

Created by Frank Stella exclusively for The Whitney, these tree-hangers combine geometry, symmetry, and parts of organic design to produce some incredibly unique ornaments that should give the Industrial Designer in you serious goosebumps. The 3D-printed ornaments come in a variety of designs, exploring facets, combinations of form and negative-space, wireframes, and parts of parametric design!

The Eazy Treezy Christmas Tree Stand makes setting up your Christmas tree extremely easy and convenient! It features self-adjusting jaws, which can be easily modified according to the shape, size, and diameter of the tree. The five jaws make sure your tree is completely stable and stands upright! An integrated spout fills up the stand with water, keeping your tree hydrated. Pretty efficient, no?

It’s Winter, and my feet get chilly all the time. However, the Eco Poka Feet Warmer Cushion is here to my rescue! You just need to slip your feet into the fluffy cushion, and pull the built-in leg warmer as tightly as you like, keeping your feet warm and cozy. The cushion also functions as a comfortable pair of slippers, while you lightly roast your feet.

Spongebob fans! This Pineapple Villa will top your travel bucket list!

What is helping me get by these trying times is thinking about all the things I would do or places I will visit once the pandemic ends. Somewhere in the middle of all the wishful thinking and watching cartoons, I came across Spongebob’s Pineapple Villa and I had to look at it thrice to make sure my mind was not playing tricks on me. I can confirm it is real, the Pineapple from Bikini Bottom is actually a part of Nickelodeon’s resort in Punta Cana, and friends, that is where I want to be relaxing if we get our summer back. Welcome to Home Sweet Pineapple!

I will happily trade 124 Conch Street for a vacation in the Dominican Republic. The Pineapple Villa is not an exact replica of our beloved sea sponge’s home but, it is a lot more luxurious and human-friendly! The decor inside the villa has many iconic elements of Spongebob’s humble abode to make you feel like you are in Bikini Bottom – like the blue bamboo wallpaper, the floaty chair, the bulls-eye window, and the diving-helmet shaped tv. It has a private master suite with a king-size bed, both indoor and outdoor living as well as dining areas, and a complete marble bathroom. But my favorite part about the pineapple under the sea (or on land in this case) is the Aguas del Amor outdoor shower and freestanding tub. If that wasn’t enough, you can stroll through the villa’s private gardens, the Pineapple’s very own infinity pool or lounge on the sun-bathing beds while enjoying some of the show’s famous burgers. Anything outdoor that comes with butler-service at this point has my full attention.

“The 2-bedroom/3-bath Pineapple features all of the modern amenities and luxurious accommodations found in the Super Villas, but with a unique twist: all who enter are instantly immersed in SpongeBob’s world,” say those managing the iconic yellow structure. What makes me feel warm inside (yes, I realize I feel that way for a cartoon) is that this is probably the life Spongebob dreamed of having instead of flipping burgers. But what I do know for sure is that he would bury himself in the sand before he coughed up $3,800 per night.
