The traditional method of setting up Christmas lights has always been to string waterproof lights outside and then drape some fairy lights down curtains or across walls. While these can turn out to be quite nice, the amount of work needed to accomplish that is just too much to ask for, especially for something that might only be usable for a few months each year. And then there’s the fact that these disparate pieces of lighting don’t really work well together, leaving you with either static or random flashes of light that don’t exactly inspire or captivate. Those boring Christmas lights are now a thing of the past thanks to how Govee provides an effortless way to set up and be the conductor of your own light show, whether indoors, outdoors, or both!

That includes asking Alexa or Google Assistant to turn the Christmas lights on or off for you. And with an IP65 dust and water resistance rating for the Control Box and the String Light itself, you don’t have to worry about white or wet Christmases either.

With DreamView and Music Modes, you can let the beads dance to the music or have them interact with other Govee lights in your home. And because the lights are IP65-rated (IP64 for the adapter), these curtain lights can also be used for an entertaining outdoor light display, whether there’s a special occasion or not.

The Govee outdoor light show box can control up to 10 devices with accurate sound pickup. Other features include preset scene modes and music modes for the best in music synchronization.

It only takes a few taps in the Govee app’s Dreamview function to sync all the Govee lights together and create the light show. For outdoor light shows, you can use the Govee Outdoor Light Show Box, allowing you to control up to multiple devices like a skillful conductor guiding an orchestra of different instruments. A single Light Show Box can connect up to 10 Govee lights using Bluetooth and the Govee Home App, syncing them to create festive indoor and outdoor shows thanks to a library of 22 music modes and 18 scene modes. With an IP65 and a rechargeable 2500mAh battery that gives it 12 hours of use on a single charge, the Govee Outdoor Light Show Box makes it effortless to orchestrate your fancy light party out in the yard. Top 10 accessories you need to make a cool gaming room

As we near the final days of 2023 (known in some circles as either one of the best years in gaming history or one of the worst) the massively popular gaming hobby shows no sign of slowing down in terms of public reception. In fact, Statista predicts that 3.1 billion humans (a little less than half of the current global population) will regularly play games as a hobby by 2027.

But can you truly call yourself a “gamer” if you don’t spend at least a little time and money decking out the room you play games in? I’m half-joking; of course there is no specific “correct” way to play video games in your own house. But there are quite a few gadgets and cool decorative items you can use to make any gaming room more impressive.

Whether you’re a PC gamer who wants an extra edge, a racing game enthusiast who wants maximum immersion, or if you simply want to make your entertainment center a little more comfortable, you’ve got a number of options at your fingertips to trick out your gaming room to match your style. To help you out, I’ve come up with a list of gaming room accessories that immediately come to mind, including a few mainstays I’ve used in my personal gaming setup for years.

1. Playseat Trophy – Logitech G Edition

Playseat is one of the best racing chair brands you can buy from, and this collaboration between Playseat and Logitech (called the Playseat Trophy – Logitech G Edition) is probably the best option for an all-rounder racing chair with direct drive wheel support plus all the other bells and whistles you’ll need for maximum immersion. It’s also advertised to naturally conform to the shape of your body thanks to Playseat’s patented ActiFit material, so you can theoretically sit inside of it and race for hours without developing aches and cramps. It’s a little expensive at an MSRP of $599.00, but it’s hard to find a decent racing chair below that price range, and critics love the mix of features and high build quality.

2. Logitech G Pro Racing Wheel and Pro Racing Pedals

If you’re going to invest in a high-quality direct drive racing wheel and accompanying racing pedals, you’re going to want to go straight to the best one on the market. That’s the Logitech G Pro Racing Wheel and Pro Racing Pedals bundled together for around $1348.99 – which, yes, is expensive, but if you’re in the market for a high-end racing setup anyway, is money even an object? GamesRadar+ had some especially kind words for the Logitech G Pro Racing Wheel, highlighting the powerful force feedback, robust customization options, and advanced features throughout the design. It’s also widely known as one of the sturdiest racing wheels around, with IGN’s slightly less enthusiastic review still giving credit to Logitech for delivering on its commitment to quality.

3. Cololight Smart RGB LED Gaming Lights

Hexagonal LED wall lights are a popular and stylish way to decorate any gaming area or entertainment center, and I find the Cololight COLO PLAY Ultimate Fusion Set offers the best price balance for the widest range of features as it’s designed around PC gaming setups – letting you sync a wide range of lighting systems (like Razer Chroma) with Cololight’s hex lighting pieces. The included COLO PLAY light switch sits comfortably on your desk and is especially useful to quickly cycle your hex lights and PC lights by simply twisting a knob. Not only that, but the company pledges to plant a tree with every purchase made on its online store, which is a nice gesture on its own.

4. Secretlab MAGNUS Pro

Sit-stand desks are an excellent centerpiece for any modern PC gaming setup, and one of the best-rated desks in 2023 is the Secretlab MAGNUS Pro. It’s spacious, sturdy, and has a number of quality-of-life features like electric height control, a cable management system, and even a little headphone hook for added convenience. It also contains a rather impressive integrated RGB lighting system, making for a unique and stylish design. Its height is configurable via an array of buttons conveniently accessible on its front panel. It’s expensive, but the reviews are unanimously (overwhelmingly) positive, with GamesRadar+ calling it the best sit-stand desk they’ve ever tested when they reviewed it in February 2023.

5. NEWTRAL MagicH Ultra Adaptive Support Home Office Chair

I personally dislike most gaming chairs I’ve ever sat in. I’m a firm believer that the secret to buying a proper gaming chair is avoiding them altogether, and instead investing in a really nice office chair. After all, office chairs are designed to be sat in for at least eight hours a day by office workers of all builds and ages. Their most critical function is comfort, and the NEWTRAL MagicH seems to push the boundaries on just how comfortable an office chair can be. This Kickstarter-backed office chair is advertised to provide full support in any sitting position, whether you’re sitting upright or reclining back. As someone who spends a lot of time sitting down in the same computer chair all day for both work and gaming, I’ve been looking for something that adapts to my needs throughout the day, and the NEWTRAL MagicH is on the tippy top of my wish list.

6. Logitech G560 LIGHTSYNC PC Gaming Speakers

I’ve been using these Logitech G560 2.1 PC speakers for years now, and I still recommend them as a compulsory purchase for any modern PC gaming setup. Their sound quality is decent enough – these aren’t going to compete against a proper 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound system, or even a nice pair of monitors. However, for the $200 MSRP, you’re getting a powerful 2.1 PC speaker system that also provides a ton of visual ambiance. These speakers double as LED lights that beam colors onto the surface behind your monitor. They can be configured via Logitech G HUB software to mimic the visuals on your monitor itself, creating a dynamic backlighting experience that heightens immersion when playing games and watching movies. Just remember to turn up the brightness to max and boost the subwoofer in the acoustics menu, otherwise these will be a lot darker and a lot quieter than advertised.

7. Samsung Odyssey OLED G9

The most stylish gaming PC monitor you can currently buy is the 49-inch Samsung Odyssey OLED G9, which looks incredible at 5120×1440 resolution with 1800R curvature. The Odyssey OLED G9’s integrated HDR 400 support should produce crisp and rich colors thanks to its OLED display, which doesn’t rely on a backlight and therefore negates the need for local dimming to generate deep blacks and bright whites. It’s designed for gamers first and foremost, running at up to 240Hz refresh rates with built-in support for AMD Freesync. Reviewers especially like how it produces near-instant response times, giving off no perceptible input lag. From a purely aesthetic perspective, the minimalistic design of its stand and the integrated RGB backlights make the Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 a centerpiece rather than an eyesore.

8. Xbox Mini Fridge

The Xbox Mini Fridge is admittedly a bit goofy, but then again, it’s not a “real” fridge. What was originally a meme product designed to build up hype for the then-new Xbox Series X in 2020, is still a genuinely cool item to have sitting around in any gaming room. It’s small, with a sleek black chassis and bright green inlay that mimics the design of a proper Xbox Series X. But its best feature is the integrated green LED that gives it its visual flair. Besides, it’s perfect to store a few cans of soda in since it is, after all, classified as a mini fridge.

9. Govee DreamView T1 Pro TV Backlights

Console gaming is way more immersive with a dynamic TV backlight that beams colors onto the surface behind your TV to match the visuals on-screen. Thanks to the Govee DreamView T1 Pro, you can light up your entire entertainment center across three different zones. It’s all controlled by a single camera placed on top of (or below!) your television screen, which can interpret the colors on the screen into information which tells the lighting zones which color to display at any moment. In action, the wide range of lights and colors displaying across the entire entertainment center makes games and movies come to life.

10. PDP REALMz Gaming Controllers for Xbox/PC/Nintendo Switch

Unique gaming controllers are a great way to personalize your gaming room, and thanks to the PDP REALMz diorama controllers for Xbox, PC, and Nintendo Switch, you can impress your friends with artsy designs that feature popular characters and backdrops. What really stands out here, though, is their transparent design, which makes them look retro. These are a great gift for any gamer in your life, or you can decorate your own gaming room with the wide assortment of styles and colors offered by PDP REALMz.

An unconventional futuristic design language gives a fresh take on everyday home objects

What do you think defines a futuristic product? Is it always technologically integrated, curved, angular, metal, plastic, or leather? I feel like one must think about the intent of the product and signify that through their design. Ocean White is a collection that showcases a range of meticulously crafted objects that embody this approach. By employing translucent materials, Ocean White has achieved a harmonious blend of comfort and beauty. With a strong focus on futurism and the essence of each product, this collection offers a glimpse into a world where functionality and aesthetics coexist seamlessly.

Designers: minjeong KimBohyeon KimDK (Dukkeun An)Junha Kamikhyeon kimMaini KHyunyup Cheong for Second White

Ocean White’s primary objective in creating the fourth collection was to prioritize natural and comfortable materials that play a crucial role in our everyday lives. The designers have successfully accomplished this by incorporating translucent materials into the product range. This choice allows the objects to exude an ethereal quality, evoking a sense of serenity and tranquility. By embracing transparency, Ocean White delivers a unique experience where functionality meets elegance.

The fourth collection consists of 8 products:

1. Easel

The easel from Ocean White’s fourth collection showcases the brand’s commitment to combining comfort and beauty. With its translucent design, it allows the viewer to focus on the art piece in isolation and appreciate it better. If not, the easel becomes an art piece in itself, providing artists with an inspiring backdrop for their creativity.

2. Partition

The partition stands as a testament to Ocean White’s dedication to creating harmonious spaces. The translucent nature of the partition allows light to filter through, adding an ethereal touch to any environment while maintaining privacy.

3. Pen Tray

The pen tray combines functionality and aesthetics effortlessly. Its translucent construction offers a captivating display, ensuring that even mundane tasks become visually appealing.

4. Diffuser

By utilizing translucent materials, the diffuser creates a soothing ambiance while releasing fragrances that elevate the atmosphere. The diffuser serves as both a practical home accessory and an elegant decorative piece in a variety of 3 finishes to blend in with your style.

In Ocean White’s philosophy, the more futuristic a design is, the closer it should be to the intrinsic nature of objects. With this in mind, the fourth collection incorporates light as its medium, encouraging users to focus on the essence of each product. By emphasizing simplicity and functionality, Ocean White presents a visually stunning and futuristic design language.

5. Mirror

The mirror combines sleek, minimalist aesthetics with futuristic elements. Its illuminated axis utilizes light to help focus on the purpose of the mirror. Allowing the user to perceive it as if it were standing on a vertical stand and focusing on their reflection, providing a captivating and otherworldly experience.

6. TV Stand

This futuristic TV stand exemplifies Ocean White’s commitment to combining technology and nature. The translucent material used in its construction creates a seamless integration with the surroundings, ensuring that the focus remains on the content displayed.

7. Pot

The pot showcases an innovative design that incorporates translucent materials. This futuristic approach adds a touch of elegance to plant cultivation, blurring the boundaries between nature and modernity.

8. Sign

The sign exhibits a futuristic design while remaining functional and versatile. The translucent signage creates a mesmerizing effect when illuminated, making it a visually striking addition to any space. However, the legibility of the text gets hampered, defeating the purpose of the signage. They could consider reducing the intensity of illumination.

Ocean White’s fourth collection, “Essence of the Future” embodies the brand’s commitment to crafting products that seamlessly blend comfort, beauty, and futurism. By utilizing translucent materials and emphasizing simplicity, each object represents a harmonious balance between aesthetics and functionality. Their dedication to the essence of each product shines through, providing users with a glimpse into a world where design and nature intertwine effortlessly. With this collection, Ocean White continues to redefine the boundaries of contemporary design and inspire a new generation of aesthetically conscious individuals.

These Matter-enabled modular cube lights are perfect for gaming, music, and smart-home setups

I appreciate when products are functional and no-nonsense at the same time. What else do I say about a modular, multi-functional set of cube-based lights that are quite simply called Cube? Meet the Yeelight Cubes, a set of magnetic, modular, and IoT-controlled lights that can be used for a variety of scenarios. Whether you’re a gamer or YouTuber looking to RGB-ify your space, a film nerd who’d like a backlight for your TV so your wall can color-match your movies, an audiophile who wants his room’s lighting to vibe to his music selection, or just an IoT enthusiast who wants to tinker with modular lights to build out different smart home products, the Cube’s laundry-list of features has something for you. With three cube variants – a Matrix Cube or text and symbols, a Panel Cube for lights and gradients, and a Spotlight Cube for shining light on surfaces like your wall, the Yeelight Cubes give you the ability to build out your lighting rig. Each cube comes with a modular design featuring pogo pin connectors and magnets that let you snap cubes together. A base unit lets you connect your creation to a power source, and mobile and desktop apps give you immense amounts of control over your newly built lighting setup. See? Functional and no-nonsense…

Hurry! Just 7 days left!

The Yeelight Cubes are both customizable and incredibly capable, with their ability to transform into just the kind of light you’re looking for. The standard bundle of cubes comes with 4 matrix cubes, a panel cube, and a spotlight cube (like the setup shown above), letting you build out basic tools like a clock, music equalizer, notification machine, or any other type of device you want. Add additional cubes to the mix and you can get even more complex with your creations, building out 8-bit signboards, massive RGB ambient lights, or an entire discotheque setup that responds in real time to the music you play. That cheap Tiktok sunset lamp has nothing on the Cube’s dynamism and range of possibilities.

The three cubes form the framework for the Yeelight modular system. Like if LEGO met light!

What makes these lights more interesting than your average household LED bulb is their ability to be just the kind of lights you want them to be. Not only do you get to snap them together piece by piece to build the arrangement you need, you can activate/toggle them in a variety of ways. If you’re looking for just ambient colors, there’s a bunch of themes on the app. A DIY painter lets you paint each individual pixel on the Matrix block, and smartphone and desktop apps let you configure the Cube lights to work just how you want them to. Moreover, the Yeelight Cubes are IoT-ready and Matter-compatible, which means they can integrate into your smart home ecosystem of Matter-enabled products, and can be even activated via voice commands.

Immensely configurable thanks to its desktop Yeelight Station program and the smartphone app, the Yeelight Cubes can be programmed to do things like mirror the colors on your monitor/screen, react to music playing on your smart speakers, or even respond to your gameplay by connecting to it through programs like Razer Chroma or Overwolf. The smartphone app lets you tap into a variety of presets and dynamic themes, including giving you the ability to customize color and LED-paint the Cubes with your own colors, gradients, and shapes. The app even gives you simple controls to turn your Cube arrays into table clocks, calendars, and more.

Setting up your Cubes are a breeze as they simply snap and orient just the way you want them to. Given their power requirements, you can snap a maximum of 6 cubes to one base unit and plug them into an outlet. Any additional cubes will require an extra base and a secondary power outlet. You can then hop onto the Yeelight Station desktop app or the smartphone app to set your modules up to behave the way you want, or integrate them with your smart-home thanks to its Matter certification. Compliance with the Matter IoT standard makes the Yeelight Cube compatible with home assistants like Apple HomeKit, Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, Home Assistant, and more. The Yeelight Cubes run Bluetooth 5.1 and 2,4GHz WiFi to give them their broad connectivity.

Unlike other smart light solutions from brands like Nanoleaf, Govee, or Philips Hue, the Yeelight Cubes boast a kind of versatility and modularity that’s difficult to achieve otherwise. With matrix, panel, and even spotlight cube variants, you can achieve any kind of light-based setup you’re looking for, and with Matter compatibility, your Yeelight Cube setup becomes a part of your smart-home experience, so you can fire up responsive disco-lights while listening to Miley Cyrus’ 80’s inspired hit Flowers, or a backlight for your desktop monitor while you play Elden Ring or while you watch movies and documentaries online.

The Yeelight Cube comes as a $198 bundle of 6 lights, including 4 matrix cubes, a panel cube, and a spotlight cube, along with the connector base and power adapter. Individual add-on cubes can be added to your pledge for a price.

This spaceship-like device is actually a sustainable high bay light

We often take for granted the lighting that lets us see in the dark or sets the mood in enclosed spaces like homes and halls. Not only do we seldom pay attention to their actual design, we also rarely consider the materials they’re made of. To be fair, we do that with almost every consumer product, but lamps and lights are some of the most common products we buy. Fortunately, they are also some of the easiest products to rethink and redesign. The RAB L34, for example, gives high bay lighting a more compact and space-efficient form, and in doing so, also gives it a distinct design that seems to come straight out of sci-fi space portals and alien ships.

Designer: Glen Oross, Peter On

Most of us probably don’t think much about high bay lights compared to other forms of lighting. Being way up there, they don’t often have the chance to shine, no pun intended, in terms of visual appeal. Almost like a typical bulb, they’re seen as simple, functional products you don’t need to spend too much time on since few people look at them anyway. Unfortunately, that seems to be used as an excuse to skimp not only on design but most especially on the materials.

RAB Lighting throws conventional industry practices out the window and focuses on sustainability and product optimization. Those two goals work together in creating the L34, a high bay light whose compact design not only optimizes the space that the fixture uses but also shrinks the packaging. This has a domino effect where space savings translates into savings in materials and costs, creating a more economical and resource-conscious product.

The secret to the RAB L34 is its collapsing wing design, two articulating panels that house the LEDs on either side of the main body. When retracted, the L34 has a more compact shape which reduces the space and materials needed when packaging and shipping the high bay light. Adjusting the wing angles also allows the light to target specific areas, reducing the number of lights needed to fill up a space.

This, however, isn’t the only way that the bay light is sustainable. RAB also boasts that the L34 is made with up to 30% re-melted plastic that’s leftover from producing other products. The LEDs also don’t have plastic lens covers, further reducing not only the amount of plastic used but even the energy consumed in manufacturing the lights. It would be even better if the entire body is made from 100% recycled plastics, but every little bit helps, especially if the figure rises over time.

Although it isn’t breathtaking in a visual sense, the RAB L34 high bay lighting is a good example of how even simple redesigns can have a ripple effect on improving a product’s sustainability and performance. To some extent, that redesign also gives the bay light a rather distinctive form, as if suggesting that this is the lighting of the future. And when it comes to sustainability, it could very well be one.

This Wick-shaped LED light combines old design artifacts with updated technology!

The Wick translates a pretty remarkable technological leap into something tangible. If you were to look at the Wick’s silhouette, you’d probably think it was a wick-based oil or fuel lamp from the 19th century or even earlier. However, when you observe the product in reality, you realize that the wick-lamp-shaped design is just symbolic of an era gone by, and that the Wick Lamp by Graypants, is in fact, a modern lamp powered by LEDs.

The combination of primitive and modern is what’s so appealing about the Wick. Sure, it wouldn’t have the same appeal to every generation, but it still tends to bring out a very visceral level of appreciation, thanks to its old-fashioned aesthetic. The lamp comes with a plated aluminum body featuring a wide base, a ring-shaped handle, and a tall and slender ‘wick’ with LEDs at the end. “Wick is a call from our past to the future”, say the designers at Graypants. “It’s the opportunity to mindfully light the present. Combining the romance of a candle with the utility of a flashlight, Wick adapts to and fits a broad variety of contexts, from an intimate home to a bustling restaurant patio, to a warm office kitchen.”

Michael Scott would love this dynamic water and light smart speaker!

We’ve seen speakers that put up a light show and we’ve seen speakers that are basically lava lamps. But what if you combine the best of both – colorful light element and the liquid element – into one? Vibrato, a conceptual speaker, does exactly that and more!

It uses water as an aesthetic visual element and also as a conductor for sound waves. The water helps turn the vibrations into a crystal clear sound for a better hearing experience. The vibrations also play with the water to produce a unique visual element that is not like a lava lamp but equally soothing – think of one of those running water pond showpieces that add a zen touch to the room. Water patterns paired with warm lights truly make Vibrato one of the most interesting speakers because when was the last time you wanted to stare at one light it was a satisfying ASMR loop video? This speaker can not only turn up with your mood but also help you wind down and sleep.

Colors change as per the beat and tempo which makes Vibrato a playful and interactive speaker. It has a soft build thanks to its smooth, clean lines and curved corners. The minimal form makes it blend seamlessly into your space and while there are no specifics, I would like to assume Vibrato would be a smart speaker with Bluetooth connectivity at the very least if it has to keep up with the current times. In fact, it will stand out because it combines a dynamic showpiece with smart tech which will appeal to music lovers as well as those just looking to upgrade their comparatively boring speakers. For some reason, I feel like this is something Michael Scott would love to have because it would be his own personal light and sound show.
