When is a Rubik’s Cube Not a Cube? When It’s a Fruit

The original Rubik’s Cube is one of the most iconic and popular toys of all time. From its deceptively simple design to its frustrating complexity for noobs, to the amazing way that some people can solve them in seconds, they’re a mechanical masterpiece of puzzle goodness.

The original 3x3x3 puzzle has inspired many variants, including much more complicated versions, and shapes like pyramids and dodecahedrons. Now, you can buy some Rubik’s inspired puzzles that look good enough to eat.

These Fruit Series “cube” puzzles are anything but cube-shaped, but they work in a similar way to the original Rubik’s Cube, with a multi-axis pivoting mechanism to scramble then arrange their parts out. The puzzles come in five tasty and nutritious versions, including orange, banana, pear, lemon, and apple. Okay, plastic isn’t actually nutritious.

At first glance, these things look like they’d be more challenging to sort out than a piece of fruit that you already took a bite out of, but apparently, they’re not that hard. Despite the temptation, don’t try and chomp down on one of these, or you’ll certainly chip a tooth.

All of these fruity puzzles are available individually from Hong Kong novelty shop Brando, where they sell for $16 each. The SpeedCubeShop sells a set of three that includes the orange, apple, and banana for just $17.95. I also found a set of four on Amazon for $19.99.

This Knuckle-ring citrus-juicer lets you make lemonade like a gangster

Don’t get any ideas, tough guy, the only thing this Ring Juicer is meant to threaten is your Vitamin C deficiency. Designed by Object Rights, a quirky design studio based out of New York and Istanbul, the Ring Juicer is a ceramic wearable that fits on your fingers, allowing you to pummel the juice out of a lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, or tangerine (add your own citrus fruit to the list). Available in multiple colors, the Ring Juicer adds a fun, almost sadistic element of interaction as you literally get to torturously extract the juices out of your fruit of choosing (I believe it’s pretty effective), and when you’re done, it sits neatly on its flat surface, adding a bit of visual zing to your kitchen worktop.

Meet the Conchiglie – a quirky little lemon squeezer that’s inspired by pasta!

Imagine you’re Jon Favreau. You have Scarlett Johansson sitting on your couch looking decidedly seductive, admiring you as you prepare a hearty bowl of Spaghetti Aglio e Olio as a midnight snack for the both of you. You’ve strained the noodles, prepared the garlic oil, mixed it all together, and sprinkled a bit of parsley all over. All the dish needs is a dash of lemon, and you bust out the Conchiglie lemon squeezer to finish your pasta with a bit of tang… it’s all just perfect!

The Conchiglie is a neat, conch-shaped device inspired directly by the conchiglie pasta. Colored in yellow and molded out of food-grade silicone, the Conchiglie comes with a hollow inner that’s perfectly sized for a lemon-half. Slip the lemon in and squeeze it from the outside and the Conchiglie does a wonderful job of juicing the lemon without getting your hands all sticky and messy. The silicone construction gives you the friction and grip you need, and a tiny strainer at the end of the conch helps catch the lemon seeds as you juice away. And when you’re done impressing miss googly-eyed Scarlett Johansson, just chuck the Conchiglie in a dishwasher and it’ll clean right up! Although you should probably discard those lemon seeds before you do…

This citrus juicer floats my boat!

koizol_ahoi_1

The AHOI showcases an abstract combination of two identities, turning them into one form. On the one hand, it’s a pretty cute looking toy boat. It has the origami-style edgy design too, and comes in a wonderful set of colors, reminiscent of the colorful paper we used to make boats out of as children. While it visually represents a boat, it’s functionally a citrus juicer. The sail of the boat is shaped like a traditional juicer head (although it doesn’t look out of place with the rest of the boat’s design) and works against a cross-section of a citrus fruit, gathering all the juice in the boat’s concavity. The boat’s design not only collects the juice, its pointed sides also let you pour the juice out easily. Makes sense all around, doesn’t it?! The AHOI comes in two sizes. A slightly larger version for oranges, and a smaller one for lemons and limes.

The AHOI by Koziol is just brilliantly playful, and whether you’re a child or adult, you’re going to love using the juicer… in fact, the only way it could be possibly better is if there were a citrusy, Yellow Submarine edition!

The Sweetest Sour Lemon Squeezer

We squeeze lemons with our hands sideways, so why should our kitchen lemon squeezers go top to bottom?! There are benefits doing it our natural way, and for this reason, Citro is the first sideways squeezer! Unlike its top-to-bottom rivals, it leaves no juice left behind in the “bottom” half of the lemon. Because of its positioning, it’s also more intuitive to use.

Keepin’ it real fake: pay peanuts, get a WP-flavored lemon

Keepin' it real fake pay peanuts, get a WPflavored lemon

Either this latest KIRF contender apes Windows Phone to a seriously piratical degree, or someone has simply chopped in a screengrab from an HTC device. Either way, the aptly-named Lemon T109 could at least have tried mimicking the latest version of Redmond's mobile OS instead of Mango. The handset, which has just popped up in India for the equivalent of $54, accepts a pair of SIMs and boasts a 3.7-inch HVGA capacitive touch display. There's a "long" 1,200mAh battery that helps fuel features like the King Movie Player, an automatic call recorder and a 1.3-megapixel snapper circa 2004. We're not sure what the "PC Tablet" accessory refers to, but the free wristwatch on offer could possibly help sweeten the citrusy deal -- especially since the other core specs are MIA. The phone may not look like it's going to smoke anything, but if you're in the area and desperate for vitamins after all that fried bacon, a tap on the source link might just help you meet your match.
