Red Dot Award-winning portable magnetic LED lamp is the perfect choice for outdoor enthusiasts

I love a beautifully-designed lighting design because I truly believe a really great one has the ability to illuminate a space – both literally, and metaphorically. Besides the physical light that it quite obviously emits, a well-designed lighting design can add manifolds of personality and charisma to a room or space. They can function as sculptural pieces, that are an extension of your personal taste and preference, truly exhibiting the richness and niche-ness of your curation capabilities, or if they’re the portable kind you can carry them along with you to illuminate anything anytime anywhere.  And one such innovative lighting design I recently laid eyes upon is the Orbe.

Designer: Nelson Fossey and Lexon

French designer Nelson Fossey from Index Office collaborated with Lexon to create the Orbe lamp. Winner of the 2023 Red Dot Design award, the Orbe is a portable torchiere lamp that is designed to illuminate spaces wherever and whenever needed. Nelson Fossey has a minimalist and simple approach to lighting, making the designer the perfect candidate for Lexon to team up with. They wanted to create a lighting design that is suitable for all occasions.

The Orbe Lamp is inspired by childhood memories of playing the cup-and-ball game and features a detachable magnetic head with an interesting 2-part design that can be easily attached and detached. The act of connecting and disconnecting the 2 parts brings to mind the childhood joy and enthusiasm of playing games! The colors were selected to be playful – such as sedate black, gold, and glossy white options. The Orbe is designed for outdoor use and is meant to be a portable product with an IPX4 rating that equals splash-resistant. You can easily carry the lamp with you anywhere, and its rotatable head emits a peak output of 100 lumens of light.

Quite interestingly, the LED lamp doesn’t just radiate one hue output, in fact, it can emit 9 colors, and even dimming as an option. When the Orbe is at its lowest setting, it can produce an impressive 48 hours of illumination, in only 5 hours of recharging via a USB-C cable. The Orbe lamp is an excellent option for outdoor enthusiasts who are constantly looking for fun, functional and practical products to add to their box of essential outdoor gear.

Tiny biometric lock lets you secure everything from your gym bag to locker with a fingerprint

Imagine being able to use TouchID on stuff apart from your phone. The Lexon Nomaday biometric lock lets you secure your backpack, room, locker, or even bicycle just by using your fingerprint.

The Nomaday is a tiny yet impressive padlock that ditches the keys for something much more secure – biometrics. Designed to be as easy to operate as unlocking your phone is, the Lexon Nomaday comes with a small fingerprint reader that has a response time of just 0.5 seconds, unlocking faster than the time it would ordinarily take to even find your keys. The Nomaday can store up to 10 different fingerprints and comes with an LED indicator, giving multiple people keyless access to whatever’s behind the lock.

A pretty impressive little EDC to have on you, the Nomaday padlock is roughly the size of a large-ish USB stick, and comes with a secure stainless steel ring and a zinc alloy body that gives it robust reliability while being lightweight at just 4.8 ounces or 137 grams. The Nomaday comes with a built-in battery that has a standby time of 12 full months and can withstand over 3000 locks and unlocks on a full charge. A USB-C port on the underside of the lock lets you charge it, taking it from 0 to 100% in just 1/5 hours.

Designed for indoor as well as outdoor use, the handy little lock works on doors, lockers, bags, travel cases, and can even go around the spokes of your bicycle wheel. The lock is even built to be IP65 waterproof, so it can easily handle rain, and it works entirely without any app, making it relatively simple to use without needing your phone around.

Lexon Speakerbuds Demo

French design brand Lexon continues to develop timeless products that we know bring that ultimate wow factor and aesthetic pleasure. It offers everyday products with award-winning innovative designs that are kept affordable yet beautiful and functional.

At the Maison et Objet 2022, Lexon just introduced two new products: the Speakerbuds LA127 and the Mano LH79 . The new pair of earbuds and the gel dispenser are innovative with their additional functions. However, they also look nothing like other the common earbuds and gel dispensers we have seen yet.

The Lexon Speakerbuds LA12 is a new pair under the Softpower Collection of earbuds from Lexon. Designed by Alain Berteau, the true wireless earbuds also come with a 3W speaker. It features a dual microphone, Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity, and a rechargeable battery. There is the now a standard USB-C port for charging. The pair already works as a standard pair of earbuds, but the charging case adds a speaker function. Three watts may not be loud to fill the house during parties, but that’s good enough for personal use. Lexon is known for creativity and tapping the best designers in the world. The Speakerbuds design is by Alain Berteau—the same person who created the Nano Garden. Berteau, who is also an architect and professor, has been recognized for his work that marries simplicity and functional innovation.

Lexon has also introduced the Mano-LH79, which is an automatic hand gel dispenser. We finally see nicely designed dispensers from the usual, standard designs. We never imagined we would need dispensers to be beautiful, but the pandemic hit, and the creatives are dying to see and use something more attractive.

The Mano-LH79 is a design by Andrea Quaglio and Manuela Simonelli. If you may remember, Quaglio Simonelli also designed something for Lexon before–the Lexon Oblio Wireless Charger. The new hand gel dispenser features automatic hand detection that helps kill 99.9% of bacteria. There is an LED light, adjustable pump flow, rechargeable battery, and a USB-C port. The LED ring comes with adjustable brightness so you can set the mood.

The Lexon Oblio wirelessly charges and sanitizes your phone at the same time

I’m pretty sure you don’t want to read about how a smartphone screen is often a cesspool of germs and how it has more bacteria than a toilet seat. That sort of information is useless if there isn’t a solution to remedy the problem, in my opinion. So let’s just get to the solution, which sits pretty neatly on your bedside table in the form of Lexon’s Oblio wireless charger. Rather than being modeled after a mat you can put your phone on, the Oblio is a vessel you put your phone into. Put your phone right into the Oblio’s slot and it immediately begins sanitizing as well as wirelessly charging your device. A 10W wireless charger at the back juices your phone in just 20 minutes, giving the Oblio enough time to use a front-facing UV-C lamp to sterilize your phone’s screen.

The Oblio’s unique form factor not only makes it look like a chic little planter around your house, but also cleverly hides your phone from view, so you’re less likely to constantly fiddle with it during the charging/sanitation cycle. It’s a clever bit of design, tech, and a behavioral-change solution all wrapped in one!

Lexon Terrace: A bluetooth speaker, but also so much more!

lexon_terrace_1

What do a Bluetooth speaker, a lamp, and a power bank have in common? They’re all items that you’d want to have around you any and everywhere. They’re also the three items that come together to form the Terrace, by Paris-based Lexon.

More than just your average Bluetooth speaker, the Terrace is, in fact, something you’d carry around with you not just because it’s an absolute treat to look at, but also because it’s so useful. The size of an Amazon Echo, the Terrace comes with a Bluetooth speaker at its base, and a lamp at the top that works wonderfully as an ambient light. With two control-knobs at its base, you can toggle the lamp with one dial, and control the volume of the audio from the Bluetooth speaker with the other dial. The Terrace comes with a third, rather indispensable function. It works as a power-bank too. A great way to charge your phone as you listen to music from it, the Terrace comes with two USB ports in its back that connect your phone to its in-built 4000mAh battery that can give your spartphone a day’s worth of juice. On full charge, the Terrace gives 25 hours of illumination/audio playback, and with its four absolutely beautiful matte-metal colors and its Parisian design-aesthetic, Lexon’s Terrace makes a great case for how much potential a Bluetooth speaker has for being so much more than just a plain old Bluetooth Speaker!

Flip the Secret Box over to hide your valuables!

Always one to make interesting, interactive designs that require a hands-on approach and a wow factor, you may remember Marc Venot’s Quetzal Lamp and Chair series. The Secret Box, a design developed for French design brand Lexon, involves a similar, playful approach that baffles you with a simple trick that involves a simple 180° flip.

The Secret Box allows you to stash valuables in a transparent acrylic jar. Flip the jar over, and it goes from transparent to completely opaque, hiding your items from one’s view. A clever trick, the Secret Box uses an opaque, milky liquid trapped within a double-walled container. When the container’s kept upright, the liquid sits at the base of the jar, while the walls remain transparent. Flip the jar over and the liquid exits the base and fills up the walls, blocking what’s inside the jar from your view. Anyone unfamiliar with the box’s little secret will probably think the box contains a liquid inside it. Tip the box back over and the liquid collects at the base again, revealing the items you hid inside it in the first place. The Secret Box is perfect for stashing things you don’t want other people getting their hands on. From loose change, to cookies or candy, the Secret Box is an inventive little product that hides your valuables from the rest of the world… but not you! Only you know the clever little secret!

Lexon In-Out Clock: Double-Double Alarm Clock

Some of us still don’t use smartphones as alarm clocks, and for those people, Lexon’s In-Out clock is seems like a clever way to make sure your alarm is set before you go to sleep. You’ll never forget to set it again.

in_out_clock_1
Setting the time is easy thanks to a pair of giant plus and minus buttons on the back. Also there’s no more multiple buttons to deal with as you set the alarm: a smaller LCD display pops-up on top with plus and minus buttons of its own on its back. When the smaller secondary display is up, your alarm is ready to go, and when it’s down, it is off. In other words, it’s idiot-proof.

For $45(USD) it is a great way to make sure you won’t sleep too late.

Lexon Flip Alarm Clock: Flip It to Shut It off

There are plenty of mornings when I opt to snooze or reset my alarm for a later time. That’s not always good, but if you can afford this luxury, it’s nice to indulge for a few extra minutes of sleep. And if you’re ready to turn off the alarm entirely, it can be a pain to fumble about looking for the alarm “OFF” switch as it beeps incessantly. This Lexon alarm clock allows you to easily turn off your alarm without fumbling around for buttons.

lexon flip alarm clock

The Lexon Flip Clock was designed by Jeremy and Adrian Wright. It offers a touch-sensitive snooze control on top and can be easily turned off and on, without worrying about which buttons to push. Just flip the clock to the side that says “ON” and the alarm is enabled, and flip it to the side that says “OFF” to shut it off. The display automatically flips over so it always displays the numbers rightside-up. It’s also got EL backlighting which can be flipped on at night with the touch of your fingertip.

The Lexon Flip alarm clock sells for €39 (~$50 USD) over at Lexon in four different colors.

Take Time Reinvents the Pocket Watch

I’ll admit that from time to time, I do want to carry around a pocket watch, but the obsessiveness of always being on time and knowing the exact time, right down to the second takes precedence in my timely, regimented world. However, even if it’s not necessarily the most accurate way of telling time, I do like this modern reinterpretation of the classic pocket watch.

lexon take time mathieur lehanneur

French designer Mathieu Lehanneur created the Take Time pocket watch for Lexon. The watch is a quartz analog timepiece that has a silicone rubber band. The band can be looped around belts, bikes, and other items. However, you can still strap it around your wrist if that’s where you prefer to have your watch.

The Take Time watch retails for about £29.95 (~$49 USD) and is available in a variety of different colors over at Gifts with Style.
