Thor Love And Thunder Xbox Mod Turns Console Into Mjölnir

To promote the release of Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder on July 8th, Microsoft is giving one lucky winner a custom Xbox Series X that looks like Thor’s hammer Mjölnir, complete with handle and everything. Don’t even bother entering, because it will be mine.

I shouldn’t be telling you this if I want to win, but all you have to do to enter the contest is follow Microsoft’s Twitter account and retweet the announcement with the hashtag #ThorLoveandThunderXboxSweepstakes. That’s a long hashtag. I would have suggested they go with #hammeryourXbox instead, but they didn’t ask me.

Would that even fit on my entertainment stand? Probably not. At least not without sawing the handle off first, which is likely considered sacrilege. Plus, I’ll probably never even be able to lift it onto the stand, considering how unworthy I am to wield Mjölnir in the first place. I think about these things.

While the models are all 3D-printed (and you can see the print lines on them too), they’re meticulously detailed too. Angled partners with designers and artists to release new variants and models online. Once an artist’s model gets approved by the Angled team, it makes its way to their store and for every sale, the artist gets a commission.

Some of the models, especially the Thanos and Black Panther ones, are incredibly well detailed, with just the right textures and proportions (the Loki one looks exactly like Tom Hiddleston). While the models all come in a solid single-color print, they can be customized and painted to make them all the more realistic!

Now only if someone made an arc-reactor that could fast-charge my smartphone…

Sculpted BB-8/Hulkbuster Mashup Figure: The Sithbuster

Let’s face it, with Disney owning both properties now, Star Wars and Marvel are practically begging for a crossover. And to give us an idea of what that probably wouldn’t look like, artist Adam of the YouTube channel North of the Border sculpted this 1:12 scale BB-8/Hulkbuster armor mashup. Sith and Hulk alike, beware!

I particularly like the BB-8 inspired paint job. The amount of fine detail Adam was able to achieve is most impressive, and I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if he could thread a needle on his first try. For reference, I struggle to thread a needle for my grandma at all until she eventually tells me not to bother – she’ll just get one of her favorite grandchildren to do it for her.

Now that I’ve planted the seed of a Star Wars/Marvel crossover in my own mind, it won’t stop growing. Will I start writing my own fan fiction?! No, but only because I’m too lazy. I will, however, start creating my own fan fiction in my mind, which takes significantly less effort than writing and can be done in the bathtub.

The old school computers may have faded in our memory thanks to the high-end Macs and PCs but if you’ve watched Marvel’s Loki, streaming on Disney+, you may have been treated to some retro-futuristic tech, some of which resembles the TVA Multifunctional Computer here.

We have come a long way in time, where computers have evolved to the size and dimension you’re probably reading this on at the moment. But in the mysterious halls of Time Variance Authority, there’s a different setting that ushers in a memorable era of cathode ray tube-like monitors combined with other gizmos to amicably track speech in real-time but not really play you Disney+ to watch the God of Mischief being interrogated.

In the Universe where time defines the odds, the rare possibility can be lived provided JK Captain’s TVA Multifunctional Computer could see the light of day. The retro-futurist tech-styled in the series should have fueled some designer imagination alright, and this multifunctional computer design reminiscent of orange globe-like computer connected to TVA Holoprojector during Loki’s interrogation is drop-dead gorgeous.

Most of the tech innovations appearing in the show built around Loki are custom-made. And for the real world, a designer has enhanced that orange bubble monitor with gizmos evocative of the onscreen adaptation and some more with the white keyboard. Accents of yellow and the gimmicky orange are seen through the contraption, that in may or may not work essentially as the remote control of the Holoprojector.

The reel tape recorder, the volume toggle buttons, microphone, forward, rewind, play, pause, record buttons, and full-scale qwerty keyboard with more knobs and buttons on this multifunctional computer concept is incredibly detailed. In fact, the exquisite detail to which the designer has rendered this in 3D is really worth a sci-fi bloke to appreciate!

This Guy Makes Helmets for His Cat

Rémy Vicarini and his cat Cathode have made a name for themselves on the Internet. Not because his kitty does tricks or anything, but because Rémy likes to dress Cathode up in tiny, custom-made helmets. I’m not sure if they actually offer any protection, but it’s not like human cosplay armor does either.

Rémy designs a computer model of each helmet them outputs them on a 3D printer. They’re custom-sized to ensure a snug fit to Cathode’s little head. Of course, he makes holes in them for Cathode’s ears to poke out to keep them from getting bent – plus kitty just looks cooler that way.

Among his creations are a motorized Iron Man’s helmet, a bike helmet, an astronaut’s helmet, a motorcycle helmet, and a LEGO knight helmet. You can check out some more of Rémy and Cathode’s stylish headgear in the videos below:

Marvel Sound Effects Machine: Hulk Smash!

Just like Star Wars merchandise, there’s a market for every single sort of Marvel product you can think of. And to prove that point, this is the Marvel Sound Effects Machine. With the push of a button, you can play one of eight sound effects from Marvel superhero movies, and I’m pretty sure I just found the new soundtrack to my life.

The small, 3″ tall sound machine is powered by two AAA batteries and sound effects include Hulk’s “HULK SMASH!”, Iron Man’s suit launch, Captain America’s shield toss, Spider Man’s web shooters, Falcon’s wing darts, Groot’s “I am Groot”, Hawkeye’s arrow shot, and Thor’s Hammer Blow. Unfortunately, it does not include Hulk’s “Puny God” or Iron Man’s “I am Iron Man.”

Obviously, I’m going to put one on my desk at work and only respond to coworkers with Marvel Sound Effects. And if I can’t answer a question with a Thor hammer blow or Hulk smash, well, I’m not answering it.

Lucas Pereira’s Traditional Japanese X-Men: Krakoa no Sato

Marvel has been taking the X-Men in all sorts of crazy directions in its comic books ever since it got the movie rights back from Fox. Freelance illustrator Lucas Pereira has a cool idea for the beloved and feared mutants with his ongoing Instagram series, which sees the X-Men and other Marvel characters dressed in clothing and accessories inspired by traditional Japanese culture.

Lucas started the series with Wolverine about a year ago and hasn’t stopped cranking out ideas. His work has seen enough demand that he’s now selling prints of some of his first creations.

DIY Captain America Shield Can Bounce Back: Fibers, Assembled

There are a thousand replicas and scale models of Captain America’s iconic shield, from action figure accessories and cheap children’s toys to full-on display pieces. But none of them actually work like Cap’s weapon – you can throw them, but that’s like playing catch with a cat. That thing isn’t coming back. Unless you’re YouTuber JLaservideo, who cobbled together a fairly simple but surprisingly effective life-size toy that can bounce back near you.

JLaservideo used fiberglass to create an elastic ring, allowing the shield to deform and bounce back. He then molded the rest of the shield out of carbon fiber to keep it light while still being durable. The key factor that JLaservideo figured out was that he couldn’t directly connect the carbon fiber plate to the fiberglass ring. That version wasn’t elastic enough, and the stress from being thrown on walls even just a few times would damage the plate. So he made a smaller carbon fiber plate, then used latex strips to connect the plate to the ring, creating a buffer between the two main pieces. He also wrapped the ring in carbon fiber for added durability.

Obviously, JLaservideo’s toy doesn’t bounce back perfectly, but it works well enough that you can mimic Cap’s double wall bounces with it and have to rush only a few steps to have the shield float back to your arms. Speaking of which, he also used small pieces of neodymium magnets to strap the shield to his wrist. If Disney can make a retractable lightsaber, I don’t see why they couldn’t make a more polished version of this toy.

LEGO Infinity Gauntlet Set: I Am Inevitable

Thanos’s Infinity Gauntlet: I wish I had it. I’d only use it for good though, I swear. Well, mostly good. But considering the power glove is entirely fictional, I may have to settle for this 590-piece LEGO set is due for release on August 1st. Obviously, if you don’t plan on attaching minifigs to all the knuckles, what’s the point?

The set will retail for $70 and measures approximately 12.5″ tall, 5″ wide, and 4″ deep. The fingers are all moveable, and due to the set’s “engrossing construction challenge,” it’s recommended for builders 18-years and older. Does that mean a 14-year old wouldn’t be able to follow the instructions and build it? I doubt it. Does that mean I wouldn’t be able to follow the instructions and build it? Almost certainly.

I added it to my birthday list, but I doubt my wife will ever actually get it for me. And even if she does, how many arguments are we going to have about how I shouldn’t keep the infinity stones in my mouth ‘for safekeeping’? Now that I think about it, it’s probably best I don’t get it after all.

LEGO released a DIY Infinity Gauntlet kit that definitely doesn’t wipe out humanity with a snap… we hope

With 590 pieces (including 6 faux Infinity Stones), this meticulously detailed LEGO Infinity Gauntlet definitely adds a Marvel-ous touch to your room (I had to make that joke. You know it).

While LEGO’s Infinity Gauntlet doesn’t give you any sufficient superpowers, it’s definitely one of the most interesting pieces of pop-culture decor you can have in your room. Made from golden LEGO bricks, the gauntlet’s solid (which means you can’t wear it) and is slightly smaller than you’d expect… but LEGO makes up for it by incorporating movable joints into the fingers, which means the gauntlet can technically ‘snap’ its fingers.
