Dropping a Giant 2-Ton Thor’s Hammer on Objects from 100 Feet

Remember that 2-ton Thor’s hammer the folks at YouTube channel Hacksmith built? Of course, you do. If you were a superhero, you would be The Memory Master. Well, now the fun-loving builders have taken that hammer and dropped it from 100 feet on various objects, including a minivan. The results are every bit as glorious as you’d expect, provided you expected very glorious.

They begin by crushing some everyday household objects like a refrigerator, dresser, and television, slowly working their way up to the big ticket items like a truck and minivan. They also nail a giant nail, destroy a kiddy pool, and wreck a cinder block castle. I only wish I’d been invited to witness the carnage.

The fun doesn’t come without its risk of serious injury, though, and the crew almost gets taken out by splintered 2 x 4’s when dropping the hammer Gallagher style on a pile of watermelons, and at one point, the decorative metal grating comes off the side of the hammer and almost hits a crew member. So yeah, if you’re going to try this yourself, definitely stand behind somebody.

Building a Massive 2-Ton, $100,000 Thor’s Hammer

Because dream it, and, with enough funding, you can achieve it, the gang at the Hacksmith channel on YouTube went and constructed a massive 2-ton version of Thor’s Hammer, Mjolnir. Admittedly, that is probably the largest Thor’s hammer I have ever seen. The whole project cost around $100,000, which, I think we can all agree, was money well spent.

Because the individual metal pieces needed were so large, Hacksmith had to outsource their production to a steel company instead of cutting the pieces themselves since they were limited by the size of their machinery. The whole hammer was galvanized to prevent rusting, and the team plans to release a video of it being lifted via crane and dropped on various objects in the near future, although there’s a preview video (the second clip below) of it crushing a homemade robot. This looks promising!

Could I lift it? Of course, I could lift it, but I’m also the king of severely overestimating my abilities. Take, for instance, when I thought I could cut it as a blogger. ‘How hard could it really be?’ I asked myself before you had to read this.

Thor Love And Thunder Xbox Mod Turns Console Into Mjölnir

To promote the release of Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder on July 8th, Microsoft is giving one lucky winner a custom Xbox Series X that looks like Thor’s hammer Mjölnir, complete with handle and everything. Don’t even bother entering, because it will be mine.

I shouldn’t be telling you this if I want to win, but all you have to do to enter the contest is follow Microsoft’s Twitter account and retweet the announcement with the hashtag #ThorLoveandThunderXboxSweepstakes. That’s a long hashtag. I would have suggested they go with #hammeryourXbox instead, but they didn’t ask me.

Would that even fit on my entertainment stand? Probably not. At least not without sawing the handle off first, which is likely considered sacrilege. Plus, I’ll probably never even be able to lift it onto the stand, considering how unworthy I am to wield Mjölnir in the first place. I think about these things.

Thor Mjolnir Toilet Paper Holder: For the God of Thunder-boomers

Are you worthy of Thor’s hammer? I sure hope so, or you aren’t wiping this day. Mjolnir can fly, smash through objects, break people’s faces, and much more. Now it can also hold your toilet paper, allowing those who are worthy to uh, clean up.

This mythical weapon is made from “sturdy, heavy-duty materials.” So not exactly Asgardian metal that was forged by a Dwarf blacksmith in the heart of a dying star, but still. Instead, it is 3D printed. The important thing is that it looks just like Thor’s weapon with all of the details including the intricate patterns on the tapered ends and an inscription that apparently reads “Whoever Shits Here And Holds This Hammer Shall Fart Like THOR.” Or is this what it says?

I’m not sure which it is. I guess it’s a crap shoot. Now you can wipe like Thor too after sitting on your porcelain throne. It’s designed to be wall-mounted or used as a free-standing toilet paper holder, and looks good on the back of a toilet. Just do your business and when you are done, STOP. Hammer time!

You might even call this “End Game” for the seated Avenger.

Thor’s Hammer Tool Set: Mjolnir for Mechanics

Thor’s mighty hammer is pretty damned powerful in the right hands. But it can’t fix everything. What you need is something more versatile, like this special version that packs a complete tool kit inside.

It may look like Mjolnir from the outside, but when you set it down and pop it open, it packs a 44-piece tool set inside. You’ll get all the tools you need to be a repair superhero, including a socket set, screwdrivers, wrenches, a knife, level, pliers, tape measure, and more. Plus the big hammer’s handle doubles as the handle of an actual 13 oz. claw hammer.

The whole package makes a great gift for any handy person or Marvel fan, and is available from ThinkGeek now for $99.99. You are worthy!

Giant Thor’s Hammer Replica Is only for the Pure of Heart (and the Massive)

Look at this enormous hammer! It looks just like a giant version of Thor’s mighty Mjolnir from the Avengers flicks. Though this implement is made of foam, so I guess that means a mere mortal could wield it.

NECA’s oversize Mjolnir replica stands 4 feet tall. I’m not sure if it can stand on its beveled edge like it does in the movies, but they show it that way in one of the pictures.

What you see here is a prototype and the final version is pending licensor approval. There is no word on when approval might come, but when it does you can buy this giant hammer for yourself.

The giant hammer will ship in a single box; likely a massive one.

Mjölnir Tool Kit Concept: Multi-Thor

Geek merch designer Dave Delisle recently came up with a practical collectible based on Thor’s hammer. The concept is for a kit that looks like Mjölnir but has an actual hammer and other common tools.

DIY Electromagnetic Mjölnir Prank: Magnethor

Thor’s hammer Mjölnir is famous for its enchantment that allows only the bravest and kindest to wield it and its lethal power. YouTuber Allen Pan aka Sufficiently Advanced put a high tech spin on the picky hammer with the help of science. He proved to be more like Loki, yet was still able to wield Mjölnir.

Allen made a battery-powered electromagnet using a microwave’s transformer and stuffed it inside a toy Mjölnir. Then he added two things. First is a touch sensor that turns the electromagnet on whenever someone touches the handle. Second is a fingerprint scanner, so that he could turn the magnet off if he scanned his print on it. All he needed was a magnetic surface and he could have some fun with his neighbors.

That last dude got a free pass to Asgard.

Real-Life Mjolnir Can Only Be Picked Up by the Geek Who Built It

Real Life Mjolnir - Thor's Hammer

Remember that hilarious after-party scene in Avengers: Age of Ultron where all the superheroes tried unsuccessfully to lift Thor’s hammer from the table? A geek picked up that idea and created a real-life replica of the hammer than only

“Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor,” is written on the side of Mjolnir, as mentioned both in the Marvel comics and movies. Joss Whedon thought it would be cool to include in the latest Avengers movie a scene with Tony Stark and Steven Rogers attempting to take control over Asgard by trying to lift Thor’s hammer. Seeing as how they are not capable of doing that, despite their superhuman strength, Stark jokily states that whosoever has Thor’s fingerprints can lift Mjolnir. That’s the precise phrase that determined an engineer called Allen Pan to build a real-life replica of the hammer that can only be handled by him. Crazy, right?

So the hammer identifies the owner by his fingerprints, but what happens next? Before revealing that, let’s focus a bit on that biometric authentication part. The handle includes a touch sensor that’s connected to an Arduino Pro Mini and a solid state relay. On top of that, there is a fingerprint scanner embedded into the handle. After the people authorized to handle the hammer get authenticated, magic starts happening.

As you can see in the above video, the hammer is placed at all times on metallic surfaces, so if your bulb lit up and you exclaimed “Yeah, b***h! Magnets!” (you get bonus points if you did that in Jesse Pinkman’s voice), you are spot on. More precisely, the hammer’s head features microwave oven transformer electromagnets, which despite being not as powerful as the ones from Breaking Bad, they can still keep Mjolnir attached to the metallic surface it was placed on. Besides keeping it in place, the electromagnet also makes the hammer seem heavier, and thus, closer to what Mjolnir is in the comics.

After the fingerprint sensor deems Pan as “the worthy,” the electromagnets are turned off and Mjolnir can finally be picked up. That’s the part that makes the video Pan shot on Venice beach even more hilarious.

All in all, since Avengers cosplay has been done to death, it’s great to see someone do things differently. In fact, Pan’s hammer could go hand in hand with the Iron Man glove that lets you shoot lasers. Given Pan’s attraction for comic books, I guess he could showcase his creation at some ComicCon, and since he is so creative, I’m sure he could come up with more real-life replicas of gadgets from the Marvel movies. Heck, in his case, I don’t mind if he turns his attention to DC Comics material!

This also makes one wonder how many times has technology been used in the past two millennia to simulate magic…

Thor’s Mjölnir Purse: Strong Enough for a Man, but Made for a Woman

Whoever the woman is who holds this purse, shall possess the power of Thor. And with it, the power of lipstick, mascara, and everything but the kitchen sink. Since Thor recently became a woman in the comic book, this Mjölnir purse seems particularly appropriate.

I’m not sure that Lady Thor would carry this into battle, but it makes a good fashion accessory. This Mjölnir hammer is a creation by Meryle Idzerda of Geek Retroactive. She made it by wrapping a cigar box with lambskin leather with a gunmetal finish.

It looks pretty good, and it can be yours for $250(USD) over on Etsy. If anyone tries to steal it, it’s going to hurt getting hit over the head with this thing.
