Nordgreen’s watches are all about Scandinavian simplicity, symmetry, and social responsibility

I remember first getting a glimpse of Nordgreen’s watches when I saw Sam Gwilt (our buddy, Sam Does Design) wearing them. Designed in Copenhagen, Denmark, Nordgreen’s watches spoke of true Nordic minimalism, with design details that omitted everything complex, retaining just the elements that were necessary. A clean dial, three hands, and a date window. Together, these three elements were all that were needed to build a beautiful watch that’s outwardly simple, sophisticated, and minimal to the extent that it looks serene.

Nordgreen’s Philosopher watch perfectly channels this minimalism, with its pure white watch face (that even ditches numerics for stick markings), and the slightly asymmetric seconds hand that looks like it’s slicing through time. The watch body comes with a slightly outwardly drafted design that is just angular enough to feel different and look different. The crown at the 3 o’clock position has a minimal yet unique style too. The Philosopher comes with a body made from 316L stainless steel, commonly found in the best watches, and houses within it a Japanese Quartz Movement on the inside.

Designed to embody Scandinavian simplicity and symmetry, Nordgreen’s watch body comes in classic colors too, ranging from silver, to rose gold, to even a bronze-ish gun metal. Paired with interchangeable tanned Italian leather straps, designer Jakob Wagner ensures that the watches adhere to the highest standards of quality, craftsmanship, and style. Coming from an incredibly design-forward background, Wagner has worked with companies including Bang & Olufsen, Muuto, and B&B Italia. Guided by traditional Scandinavian design, a background in mechanical engineering, and an innate love for watches, Wagner partnered with Nordgreen to help build watches that embody an authentic Scandinavian ethos, and aesthetic.

Nordgreen’s sensibilities don’t stop at just minimalism… they extend to charity too, a core value that Danes uphold with tenacity. As a part of their Giving Back Programme, With each purchase, Nordgreen allows users to select one out of three charities that Nordgreen will support on their behalf. Flip your watch over and Nordgreen even etches a tracking number on the back, letting you track the progress and impact your act of charity has had on the society.

Nordgreen’s minimalist approach also results in their watches having universal appeal. Available in three variants, the Philosopher, Native, and Infinity, Nordgreen’s designs possess the ability to look great on any wrist, paired with any outfit, and even across genders (all of Nordgreen’s watch models have unisex designs).

The Native Watch

The Native watches are about balance. Chief designer, Jakob Wagner, wanted to bring the Native back to the founding routes of a watch with a brilliantly classic look which has been redefined for the modern being.

The elevated design is a result of the rounded case. The clean dial, subtle, light grey minute mark, and rounded lugs define the watches classic intentions.

The Infinity Watch

The Infinity watch is inspired by the evolution of nature, removing the complexities that modern civilizations have brought to Earth. Pure simplicity has been arrived at by leaving just the essentials, represented by the removal of the lugs, the date, and the fine detail of the hourly marks. While the deep curvature of the dial reminds us of infinite time and space, affirmed by the extended hourly marks that glide up to the edge of the dial.
