The Bone Mouse doesn’t follow ergonomic design by the book

With a profile that one can best describe as influenced by Ross Lovegrove’s iconic Andromeda Lamp, the Bone Mouse experiments with form and mass… or rather the lack of it.

This is the Bone Mouse, a mouse that’s skeletal in form, yet functional. Based off an older design of Jin’s, the Bone Mouse retains the mouse’s most crucial surface, its top, and turns the rest of the mouse into a voronoi playground. I’m not entirely sure how comfortable holding the Bone Mouse would be, but I imagine one’s fingers would easily get used to the negative spaces. In fact, they’d probably go on to become fidget-worthy, as our thumb runs up and down the hollow spaces.

Sticking to its bony, basic aesthetic, the mouse is even devoid of details like buttons or scroll-wheels. Instead, the mouse’s entire top surface is touch-sensitive, allowing you to tap, scroll, or even pinch to interact with digital elements!

The Eames Chair-inspired “Lounge Mouse” is also a luxurious arm-rest

Claiming he was tired of ‘electronic-looking electronics’, Shane Chen designed what one might consider an awakening for the tech industry. Taking inspiration from an iconic chapter in furniture design, Chen envisioned the Lounge Mouse, a hat-tip to Ray and Charles Eames’ Lounge Chair. The Lounge Mouse follows the form and visual direction of the ottoman footrest that comes along with the chair. The base of the mouse is made from bent plywood, while the upper half is an incredibly soft leather clad with a scroll-wheel in its upper center. “The design addresses the ergonomics and style of a computer mouse from the perspective of designing furniture”, says Chen, who designed the Lounge Mouse as an entry for Render Weekly’s online rendering challenge.

BMW and Thermaltake’s Level 10 M gaming mouse is real, costs $100

BMW

Thermaltake and BMW DesignworksUSA's Level 10 M gaming mouse has made the transition from concept to reality. Unlike its teasing appearance in January, the unit now has some real-world specifications, including five programmable keys and a Z-key that'll change your gaming profile on the fly. The optical unit's DPI was a closely guarded secret, but the companies have confirmed it'll default to 5,000, but can be tweaked up to 8,200 if you need it. Sweaty-palmed gamers will appreciate the holes drilled in the top, preventing your secretions from loosing your grip from the handset. It's available right now for $100, just make sure you've worked out if you're gonna call it a "Beemer" or "Bimmer" before you buy -- and yes, we're resolutely in the former camp.

Update: Well, this is odd. The image above was supplied by BMW (give or take the odd creative addition), but Thermaltake's version, included after the break, makes the unit look very different indeed.

Solar Powered Optical Mouse

solar mouse Solar Powered Optical Mouse
Well here’s an interesting idea- an optical mouse with a solar panel on top. It makes sense since most mice run on relatively low power these days and sit unused for long enough to get a full charge just from the ambient light in the room. This mouse does have the option of running on a single AAA battery if you’re living in a cave, with a vampire roommate, or in Alaska during the Winter (or all 3 of those at once, which is my next idea for a movie entitled “Cold Dark Days”). Available for $36 from Brando.
