Classic Monster Ornaments Are Perfect for Your Nightmare Before Christmas

Halloween isn’t even here yet, and I’m already starting to see Christmas products show up in stores. I think if you’re going to start buying Christmas items in October, I think you should be able to get some use out of them sooner than the end of November. These monster-themed Christmas ornaments should do the trick.

Novelty product maker Archie McPhee is selling this set of three spooky glass holiday ornaments, based on three classic horror characters. The set includes Dracula, Frankenstein’s monster, and The Wolfman, and would look equally at home at a Halloween get-together or a Christmas party. Heck, hang them up all year long and just change the colors on your christmas tree lights to go with whatever your current theme is. Why can’t we have monsters for Easter and Valentines’ Day too?

The set of three ornaments will set you back $24.95 over at Archie McPhee. If you’re looking to make a really scary Halloween tree, you might want to grab some eyeball ornaments while you’re at it.

Planetary Glass Ornament Set: Spruce, the Final Frontier

Spice up your Christmas tree this year with this Planetary Glass Ornament Set. Because your old ball glass ornaments are boring and not spacey enough. These ornaments mixed with some Star Wars or Star Trek ships and a Doctor Who TARDIS will make your tree into a science-y sci-fi scene that will have Santa excited to visit again next year. Space-themed trees. That’s what we need more of.

For $49.99, you’ll get a set of nine glass ornaments that look just like the planets in our solar system, only in miniature. Yes, you heard me. I said NINE planets. Yes, Pluto is included. These ornaments are made of hand-painted glass. Note: They aren’t to scale because that would just make your tree look weird and Jupiter would keep falling off your tree. Scratch that. It would probably crush your tree.

So deck the halls with planetary bodies this year. This is a great gift for any cosmos loving nerd or astronomy buff. Your tree is going to look great this year. Maybe even out of this world. Santa might even show up in the space shuttle to deliver presents this year. That would be awesome.

Celestial Ornaments: Look What the Cat from Men in Black Dragged in

I like unique Christmas ornaments, especially ones that reflect my geeky side. I also like handcrafted glass, so when I saw these celestial ornaments from, I was very intrigued.

Each of these ornaments comes from Plus Alpha Glass, the studio of artist Tomizu Satoshi, and is a true work of art. Each glass orb is a tiny universe unto itself, with planets, colorful swirling gasses, and stars made from bubbles.

Unfortunately, I don’t think there’s a way to order these outside of Japan, so for now, we’ll have to appreciate them from afar. I’ve posted a few of my favorites below, but be sure to check out the Plus Alpha Glass image gallery for more examples.

Blown Glass Solar System Christmas Tree Ornament Set

planet-christmas-tree-ornaments

Last time we spoke of planetary glassware, it was for the Solar System Glass Set and you guys seemed to love it. Well today you’re looking at a set of blown glass tree ornaments featuring 9 planets and the Sun. Yes, 9 planets, which means Pluto once again made it! But as cool as this set is, there’s some bad news. First off, it’ll take 3 to 5 weeks to ship, which means you probably can’t get it in time for Christmas. And on top of that, the thing is $375! So yeah, that’s out of budget for most people.

Still, if you’ve got too much disposable income and like to plan things way, way, way ahead of time, you can always get these for next year.

Blown Glass Solar System Ornaments Make an out of This World Tree

Growing up, we always saw this a glass blower at a booth in the mall on the weekends. It was awesome to see the guy make glass bowls and little figures. I always though it look like a lot of fun, but was very complicated to do. That said, I never saw that glass blower make anything as complex looking as these hand blown Christmas ornaments.

These ornaments are made to look like all the planets in our solar system and they look very accurate. Jupiter has the big red spot and Saturn has rings etched using data from the Cassini probe. The small ornaments are about 2-inches in diameter with the larger being 4-inches and Saturn being about 4.5-inches with the rings.

The artist claims the ornaments are made from thick glass and are more durable than they look. I would love to have a set of these, but they are $375 per set on Amazon. That’s a lot of money, but for handmade glass art, it’s not so bad.
