San Francisco: New paint makes pee bounce off of walls

Pee paint 1

San Francisco has become the testing ground for a special type of paint that makes pee bounce off of walls. If you feel like going, better look for a tree instead.

The San Francisco city has announced that they will be trying out a new special type of paint in the city, one that repels urine in the walls of the city where this shameful activity seems to be kind of popular. The system behind this paint is pretty simple: once the pee-er starts urinating, the liquid might bounce on his pants or shoes instead of staying on the wall.

This paint is not original from San Francisco. It’s very used in Germany, in areas with bars and pubs, and has gotten very good results in stopping people from this nasty habit. Community groun IG St Pauli from Hamburg have decided to use this paint to deal with problems in a neighborhood visited by more than 20 million tourists each year.

“The paint, called Ultra-Every Dry, creates an air barrier in front of the surface which repels almost any liquid”, said the creators in an interview with the BBC.

This special paint is being used now in San Francisco, and many walls around bars and pubs, in neighborhoods with many homeless people, where this type of conduct is more likely to happen. Also, signales in many languages have been added which read: “hold it! This wall is not a public restroom. Please respect San Francisco and seek relief in an appropriate place”.

“The idea is that they will think twice next time about urinating in public”, said Rachel Gordon in representation of the city. “We have gotten many, many phonecalls where citizens asked us to apply this pain on their alleys or buildings”. The city of San Francisco has also said that applying this paint is also cheaper than assigning a cleaning team specifically to these areas.

Pee in public spaces is a big concern for San Francisco and its citizens, where fines for peein outside of bathrooms can go from $50 USD to $100 USD.

Urinal Splashback Danger Meter

urinal splash danger meter
You in danger! It’s a common problem in all men’s restrooms- splashback. Combined with rampant poor aim (we can’t help it, it’s in our DNA), splashback can cause the area near all urinals to be a danger zone of pee puddles. Sticky and gross. At Instructables headquarters they postulated that the problem can be solved with a little peer pressure encouraging men to stand a bit closer so they “aim for the drain”. And that peer pressure can be applied with a DIY gadget- the Urinal Splash Danger Meter. Because an overly technical complex solution to simple problems is always best, right?

They built a solar powered pee-stance quality meter to get peeing peers to stand in the right spot. It’s simply a solar panel and an analog meter. The closer you stand to the solar panel, the less light hits it and the less danger is indicated. Stand further back and more light hits the panel and you’re more in danger of creating splashback. Complete instructions to make your own splashometer are above. You’re gonna need the following parts:

Black Acrylic Sheet 0.118 Thick 12 x 12
50 microAmp Ammeter/Galvanometer (Analog)
Small Solar Panel
3M Dual-Lock

After installing there’s one more important step:

Wash your hands! Is this the solution every men’s bathroom has been in search of? Doubt it, but we do love us a good urinal gadget (really).

Pissed at Someone? Pee on Them with PPShots

Some people just get in your face and do all sorts of mean and disrespectful stuff, even if you didn’t do a thing to them. There’s no sense in arguing or rationalizing with people like that, simply because they started out by acting without sense, reason, or logic.

So to deal with your frustrations, anger, and annoyance, just pee on them.

PPShotsNot on them in person, but on their image via PPShots.

PPShots is essentially a waterproof (pee-proof? poop-proof?) sleeve that can hold a photo of whatever or whoever you’re angry at. Just slip the picture into the cast, stick it into your toilet bowl, and go.

PPShots are sold in packs of two for $10(USD) over on Amazon.

Talking Urinal Cakes Tell Drunks to Get a Cab While You Pee

It happens even to the best people you know. They might have had too much to drink at a party that was unexpectedly wild, and now they’re too drunk to drive themselves home. The unfortunate thing to this is that sometimes, they’re not aware of that fact themselves.

Talking Urinal Cake

This is a situation that the folks over in Michigan know all too well, because they’ve devised these talking urinal cakes that tell drunk folks not to drink and drive – as they’re peeing.

Once some pee passes through it, it pipes up to say:

Hey there big guy! Having a few drinks? Then listen up! Think you’ve had one too many? Then it’s time to call a cab or a sober friend for a ride home. It sure is safer and a hell of a lot cheaper than a DWI. Make the smart choice tonight, don’t drink and drive. Remember, your future is in your hand.

Another one goes something like:

Here’s a real friendly reminder. Don’t drive drunk. If you do and you get arrested, the next urinal you pee in will be in jail, with a hairy guy named Bubba standing behind asking you to pick up the soap…

The Michigan State Police have made these available to 200 selected bars all across the state. It sounds funny and quirky, but I think it’s one smart idea to remind drunk drivers to stay off the road. At least, some of them, anyway.
