NERF LMTD Star Trek Starfleet Type-II And Type-III Phaser Blasters

Designed to resemble the Type-II and Type-III phasers used in Star Trek: The Next Generation, Hasbro has just announced preorders for a NERF LMTD set of the weapons. The $120 set includes both a Type-II one-handed phaser pistol and a Type-III phaser rifle. Obviously, I will be everyday-carrying both for protection against the Borgs.

According to Hasbro, “The Type 3 motorized dart blaster has light-up effects that simulate the look of being assimilated by the Borg in homage to the film, Star Trek: First Contact, light-up phaser effects, phaser sounds, authentic First Contact movie sounds, an internal 5-dart clip, and fires one dart at a time. The Starfleet Type 2 Phaser fires one dart and has a pull-back priming handle.” Borgs, beware, and I won’t have them set to stun, either.

One can never have too many NERF guns modeled after sci-fi weapons, that’s what I say. That’s also what I’m trying to convince my wife. It’s…not going well. “You don’t even play with that NERF Mandalorian rifle you bought,” she’ll argue before I have to explain for the hundredth time I’m keeping it mint in packaging as a collector’s item. It’s an uphill battle.

Star Trek Rock Mood Light Won’t Keep You Warm

If you ever watched the original Star Trek TV series, you might remember an episode called “The Enemy Within.” I’ve never seen that episode, but apparently, it involves Kirk and crew using phasers to superheat rocks until they glow to survive a planet where the temperature drops to 120-degrees below zero. ThinkGeek turned up at San Diego Comic-Con this week showing off a sweet light-up rock based on that episode.

The hand-painted “rock” comes with a remote control that looks like an original series phaser. It has two modes, with one that “heats” the rock making it slowly glow brighter and another mode called “atmosphere,” which produces a variety of colorful lighting effects. The rock can even dim slowly over ten minutes as if it’s cooling down from its intense heat.

Trekkies looking to get their rocks off can do so at ThinkGeek for $69.99.

Star Trek III Phaser Replica Goes Pew Pew Pew

Star Trek III fans, here is your sidearm. This is a replica of the phaser used in The Search for Spock. The phaser is a combination of two replicas with a removable Type 1 cricket phaser and a Type 2 pistol grip.

That means you can cosplay two Star Trek weapons with one toy. Not only does this phaser look the part, it also has lights and sound effects to make it more accurate. Naturally, it supports all of the important phaser modes: Heat, Stun, Kill and Disintegrate – which is the only mode you really need.

Star Trek the Previous Generation: Steampunk Tricorder and Phaser

Given all of the times that the Star Trek crew has traveled to the past in the Holodeck, I’m really surprised that we didn’t see a phaser and tricorder like these ones on the show.

Flo Svensson’s steampunk Starfleet away team gear is nicely detailed and are gadgets of an age to come that just happen to look like weapons from an age gone by.

I can already see Data and Picard wearing top hats and monocles, blending in with the locals, in search of an alien who altered the timeline. It’s a good thing LaForge gave them some time-accurate gear so they won’t stand out.

Maybe Mark Twain will show up. Props to these props.

Guy Creates Star Trek Phaser, Sets It to Stun… a Balloon

We are well on our way toward a real working Star Trek phaser with a stun setting as evidenced by the video below. This guy created a working phaser in his garage and it is amazing. He gets -2 points for not drawing a Klingon face on that balloon that he kills, but that’s okay because he gets +10 for complete awesomeness.
Trek phaser
It looks like this homemade phaser was made by combining a classic Star Trek phaser casing with a powerful blue laser unit. It’s a good bet that it is the laser module from a PlayStation 3 Blu-ray drive. At least that’s what some are speculating. So does popping a balloon qualify as a real stun setting?

Look, the balloon popped. I’m willing to bet that if you had been hit by that beam, you would have screamed and dropped to the floor like a Ferengi losing a latinum fortune. It would have at least hurt you a little. We aren’t sure if the sound is part of the weapon or added later, but it completes the effect.
