Insane Mod: Motorcycle Engine in a Barbie Power Wheels Car

Look at this brilliant and brave, yet insane man. This guy and his buddies took the engine off a Honda CRF230 dirt bike and figured out a way to graft that thing into a Barbie Power Wheels Mustang. This is exactly like the Barbie Mustang my daughter terrorized the neighborhood in as a 4-year-old. The main difference is that I could jog faster than she could go in top gear and this nutcase hit 70 mph in his.

Grind Hard Plumbing Co. cheated a little by setting the body of the kids’ Mustang over a go-kart frame, but damn if it’s not still awesome. I really want to drive this thing. Check it out in action in the first two videos below, then a little of the build process in the time-lapse afterwards:

New Power Wheels Mustangs Get Traction Control

When my daughter was three or four, I got her one of those pink Barbie Power Wheels Mustangs. I think I will remember until my dying day how she would throw that thing into drive and fly out of the driveway sideways. She literally drifted and spun out until she drove the wheels off that thing – twice.

It seems Fisher-Price is intent on ruining the sideways fun for kids these days by adding traction control to the new Mustang Power Wheels cars. The new Smart Drive powertrain not only keeps traction, but it will turn off if it detects an impending rollover.

I can only imagine if your kid drives like mine does, these new traction control Power Wheels will probably spend lots of time turned off sensing an impending rollover. The upside is these should be easier on wheels than the old model, and they should drive better on rough terrain. Top speed for the kid-sized pony car is 5 mph in forward, 2.5 mph in reverse.

The latest Power Wheels Mustangs also have an onboard sound system for playing tunes, and make realistic engine sounds that match your kid’s driving moves. They sell for $359.99(USD) each and come in blue or pink colors. Expect them to hit retailers sometime in December.

Jurassic Park Power Wheels Jeep: Dinosaur Wrangler

This Barbie Power Wheels Jeep was converted into a Jurassic Park jeep, and it looks so much cooler now. If you were a kid, would you rather pretend to be Barbie riding around in a pink jeep or would you rather pretend that you are driving around a park filled with Dinosaurs? Dinosaurs win. Obviously.

If you want to see a really awesome build, check out Fromanizzle’s gallery below. Pay attention moms and dads. This is how you make a kid’s car much cooler. They got all of the details just right.

If the company behind Barbie Power Wheels was really smart, they would make a version like this to sell in stores. But for now, it is up to cool parents to do it.

Guy Attaches Leaf Blower to Son’s Power Wheels Truck, Lets Him Do the Work

If you have a young child, a power wheels car and a leaf blower, you can clear your yard of leaves with no work at all. Well, no work on your part. Just let your kid do all of the work.

Jarrad Provost works smart, not hard. He attached a leaf blower to his son’s Power Wheels truck to help clear the fall leaves from his yard. Dad gets to lay back and enjoy himself, while the kid gets to have fun and cultivate a healthy work ethic at the same time. This is a simple and brilliant solution to yard work.

Dads like this should be given an award. He inspires us all. In fact, at this very moment, dads everywhere are attaching leaf blowers to any and all child-driven vehicle they can find.

DIY Mad Max Power Wheels War Rig: Fuwy Woad

Cory and Jeremy Newton-Smith are famous for making geeky Halloween rides for their son Cooper. After the DeLorean time machine and the Ecto-1, Cooper’s next ride is one we should all witness: the War Rig from Mad Max: Fury Road. And you can’t have a War Rig without Imperator Furiosa, so Cooper’s baby sister Ziggy joined the family tradition.

The tiny truck has four motors from two used Power Wheels jeeps, LEDs, amps and speakers for sound effects. Cory and Jeremy used two Arduino Nanos to handle the toy’s electronics: one for the motors and another for the audio. To keep the kids safe, the truck has a keyed ignition and can be remote controlled with an iPhone app over Bluetooth. It’s also programmed to automatically stop if it loses connection with mommy and daddy’s phone.

Head to Cory’s website for more photos and shots of their latest Halloween cosplay. While they have your attention, the Newton-Smiths would love it if you could donate to Cycle Kids, a Massachusetts-based kids organization that promotes a healthy lifestyle.

Power Wheels Desert Drifters: Mad Max for Toddlers

Imagine a future where the world runs out of juice boxes. Hordes of angry toddlers take to the wilds in their souped up Power Wheels to fight to the death for what little juice remains. In that violent, dirty, thirsty future world, the tots would drive these cars. Luckily, for the rest of humanity, the cars can’t catch you if your walk fast.

Power Wheels cars have been around for a long time and my daughter literally drove the wheels off hers- twice. These cars can reach about 7.5mph at top speed forward and about 5mph in reverse. ThinkGeek is showing off three Mad Max inspired versions with a roadster, ATV, and Range Rover style ride on.

They are festooned with pointy weapons because getting the last of the juice will require the cracking of some skulls. Before you get too excited, this is a ThinkGeek April Fools carryover, but how hard would it be to actually make these?

Henes Broon F870 is a Power Wheels on Steroids

As soon as my daughter had enough coordination to operate a Power Wheels car, I bought her a sweet pink Mustang. She loved that thing and drove the crap out of it. She drove the thing off curbs, into kids, cars, houses, dogs, bikes, and anything else that didn’t get out of her way. She literally drove the wheels off it… twice.

For the money spent between duct taping the bumpers back on and buying new sets of wheels I could have just sprung for this much cooler electric ride on toy out of Korea called the Henes Broon F870. The F870 has dual electric motors and can go ten mph, that is twice as fast as a Power Wheels. It’s also all-wheel drive. It’s awesome and if Tesla made electric cars for kids, this would be the result.

It has working head and taillights, a speaker system, an Android tablet in the dash, and a Bluetooth controller for parents to take over if needed. This thing even has a coil suspension. It’s not cheap at up to $1000, but one of those high-end Power Wheels cars will set you back up to $500.

Power Wheels Star Wars Speeder Bike: Awesomendor!

I don’t know about you, but I have always wanted to have my own Speeder Bike from the Endor forest in Return of the Jedi. I never thought to make one using Power Wheels. Well, Instructables member miketherdaintx has done just that. He has built a 74-Z speeder bike using a Power Wheels toy car.

It may not go very fast, but it looks pretty awesome. Any kid would love this. If you want to build one for yourself, you can check out all of the photos and instructions at the link above.

Too bad an adult would totally destroy this. That wouldn’t keep me from riding it through. It just would be the slowest Speeder chase ever.
