Playfully designed home cleaning equipment could make chores much more entertaining!

Meet Dustache, a dustpan with a quirky Pringles-ish avatar that hopes to bring a fun, storytelling element to the act of cleaning. A portmanteau of Dust + Mustache, this dustpan and broom by Peleg Design is your personal clean-up crew that can take care of any dry-waste mess around your house. The dustpan forms Dustache’s face, while the broom is styled to look like a nose and nice thick pair of man-whiskers. Whenever you come across some dirt or dust, or you accidentally spill some food over, just grab ahold of Mr Dustache and his brush and pan are always ready for duty… and don’t worry, he doesn’t mind getting crumbs in his moustache- that’s his job after all!

Designers: Dar Stern + Peleg Design Studio

What Dustache does so wonderfully is it bring a quirky and fun appeal to an otherwise mundane task. It’s something the folks at Peleg have managed to do really well with their products. Dustache’s fun personality and oddly cartoonish design make cleaning up much more fun. It’s almost as if you’ve got yourself a clean-up buddy as you conveniently feed crumbs into Dustache’s non-existent mouth using his rather furry (and detachable) upper lip!

Quirky-looking furniture uses a virus-inspired pronged design to stack and stick to one another!

I’ll admit, the word ‘virus’ probably gives you a bit of anxiety. It definitely isn’t associated with any pleasant experiences, although designer Andrea Cingoli is trying to make the word virus sound less scary and more harmless. In an attempt to have us get over our fear of microorganisms, Cingoli’s furniture borrows from the very design of the virus. Meet Oleg, a series of multifunctional furniture with ‘spike proteins’ that allow them to be stacked in multiple ways!

Oleg aims at rebuilding our association and relationship with viruses. Rather than associating its shape with something bad, Oleg showcases how the almost naval-mine-like furniture can be used and arranged in multiple ways. The spiky exterior of the furniture looks unapproachable, but that’s also negated by the Oleg’s use of a playful yellow along with the black to create a colorful furniture arrangement. The spiked exterior allows the Oleg to be oriented in many ways. Individual modules can be placed on the floor as the spikes work as a pair of legs, or they can even be stacked one on top of the other, allowing the spikes to interlock into each other to create fun and quirky cabinet arrangements! It looks eye-catching no matter how you orient it, although you may want to be careful if you’ve got a pet (especially a cat) in the house!

Oleg is a Silver Winner of the A’ Design Award for the year 2021.

This one modular speaker splits up into five wireless speakers to deliver surround sound!

I love an innovative speaker design, and I’m always thoroughly surprised by what the human mind can come up with. Chalking my intrigue a couple of notches higher is Quirky’s recently launched ‘Air’ speaker. Hold your horses, this isn’t your ordinary Bluetooth speaker. Air splits away, transforming from one individual speaker into five sectioned speakers. So it’s basically five wireless speakers in one!

Held together by a patented magnet design, Air looks like a cylindrical speaker when assembled, however, once you pull it apart, you have 5 speaker units in your hands, one Airbase, and four AirConnects. The speakers deliver an output of 24 watts all together. This means that you can listen to some excellent quality music in surround sound formation, or by placing the speaker units in different rooms as well! So the next time you have a party, place the modules of Air all over your home for an expansive musical meltdown. It is the first form of hardcore multi-room audio, that works perfectly indoors and outdoors! You can link up to 75 speakers to create one mindblowing audio experience. Amped with Bluetooth connectivity, Air can be charged using a Micro-USB. All the speaker units can be charged together in one go.

Air by Quirky’s founder Marc Liniado says, “We wanted to create a speaker that helped music be truly shared. Not a single speaker, limited to a single room.” He continued, “Unlike its stiff and not to mention expensive competitors, Air Audio is flexible enough to be taken anywhere good vibes and good vibrations are needed. People don’t need to spend thousands of dollars for full home audio, Air was made for sound in one room to become five.” And truly Marc has been entirely successful in creating a versatile speaker that perfectly keeps up with our busy and versatile lives. Available in a neutral black and white, Air by Quirky is the most independent and portable set of speakers you’ll ever see.

This notebook was designed for crowded workspaces!

sidekick_notebook_1

Are you even a designer if you don’t constantly fight the compulsive need to buy any pretty looking stationery you see, only to give in after a few moments? That got real, didn’t it? Well, I’m fighting the compulsive need to buy myself the Sidekick notebook, designed by the guys at Triangle Notebook.

The Sidekick is quirky, but has logic to it. An A5 notebook looks small on your desk, but open it and it doubles in size, becoming an A4, and occupying precious real estate on your desk. The Sidekick has no such problem. Its unusual shape and diagonal spine allows it to open into an ‘L’ shaped notebook that can easily sit at the corner of your keyboard, or your mousepad, or even tablet. The notebook won’t serve well for sketching, but makes a good note-taking pad, offering both landscape and portrait writing areas. Take notes, make doodles, or probably even sketch on it if you can, the Sidekick is that one notebook you won’t buy and put away only because you’ll love keeping it on your table to occasionally take notes, and to perpetually show off. Oh what the hell, I’m buying myself one…

conic_candlestand_1

It’s Valentine’s month. You’re going to want to have a candlelight dinner (I’ve got a dinner date with my Netflix account), but candle-stands are usually too ornate or too bleh. There’s nothing that fits the mood with just a pinch of Scandinavian design flavor. The guys at Puik Art fortunately, have just the kind of candle-stand you need to illuminate not only your dinner table, but also your life. Its stable, conical shape ins topped off with a quirky torsion spring that grabs onto your candle. So perfectly Pinterest-ey, isn’t it?!

Sacrificial Chair Serves As A Clothes Rack

silla-practica

You know that chair in the bedroom you just toss your clothes on, only to finally take them off twice a month and toss them in the laundry hamper? Yeah, well, it’s not doing its purpose of letting you sit now, is it? So why bother? The Sacrificial Chair elegantly acknowledges this common habit and is made for the sole purpose of tossing garments haphazardly on. It’s a simple metal wireframe, easily assembled after being shipped flat, and serves absolutely zero sitting duty. We imagine the philosophy is that if you can’t change your bad habits, you may as well embrace them. You will, of course, have to pay $140 for the privilege.
