Coral-inspired radiator turns an industrial appliance into an organic artpiece

Inventor of the Nest thermostat Tony Fadell famously expressed his disgust for thermostats of the past. They were clunky, ugly, and nobody who bought them actually liked them – they were purely a necessity and almost always hidden away in closets where nobody saw them. Nest changed that by being a radically different product that people bought because they loved. Paolo D’Arrigo’s Coral Electric Radiator does pretty much the same thing for those godawful old-time radiators found in most European and American apartments. Applying the same principle of increased surface area, these electric radiators instead use a coral-inspired design that actually looks like an art sculpture instead of an industrial appliance.

Designer: Paolo D’Arrigo

These coral-inspired radiators were designed using algorithms that mimic how cells multiply in corals, our brain cells, and other areas of nature. The patterns were created by the generative algorithm, and were then cut out of aluminum sheeting. “The goal was to define elements with an extremely extended perimeter, to generate a high thermal output and propose a distinctive aesthetic”, said designer Paolo D’Arrigo.

High-performance electric radiators, made entirely of aluminum, can be controlled with the management app which allows you to set times and days of ignition, heating speed, and temperature. Their shape is optimized to distribute heat efficiently without looking overtly industrial or engineered. The coral shapes, available in rectangular or circular formats, can be mounted on walls, and are available in a wide array of colors. What really marks a major step for these radiators is their ability to look pretty while remaining functional. Aesthetics, for a long time, have been separated from traditional functional requirements – a ‘functional’ chair must allow you to sit on it, etc. – but one could argue that looking aesthetic is a function too. In the act of problem-solving, making desirable products does solve a user’s problem too!

The Coral Electric Radiator is a Silver Winner of the A’ Design Award for the year 2022.

Tubes Radiotori designer heated towel rails and radiators come in minimalist yet attractive forms

Tubes Radiotori Trame

Not many people realize this, but heat production is an essential category in home and interior design, especially if you live in colder climates. While people in tropical countries spend so much on airconditioning and ensuring their homes are well-ventilated, those that go through winter need proper heating equipment. Fireplaces may be enough in some regions, but in places that need supplemental heating solutions, it may be wise to get a system that can last a long time. And with the skyrocketing prices of fuel that we know will affect basic utilities, homeowners must plan for such heating equipment.

It is not enough that you get and install the first heater or radiator offered to you. If you are someone who cares about style and structure, then you should turn to more reliable companies. We know a few names in this field, like Tubes Radiotori, which is presently at the Salone del Mobile event, showing off the latest in the “heat” production segment.

Tubes Radiotori I Ching

Tubes Radiotori is an Italian manufacturing company famous for home fixtures and designer radiators. It is known for being one of the pioneers in this niche industry that can deliver even to the most demanding customer. The firm is all about excellence, premium design, and avant-garde technology—proving the Italian tradition of excellence and luxury. The Italian shop established by the Crosetta family has also been set to offer innovation and courage in its product lineup. It has always believed in the art of “savoir-faire,” and that is once again shown in the latest products demonstrated at the Salone del Mobile. Two major offerings are presented—the Trame radiator and the I Ching heated tower rail—and both come with very minimalist aesthetics.

Tubes I Ching

Starting with the Tubes Radiotori I Ching, we are learning there is a real need for heated tower rails. If you haven’t heard of such, you can check out the I Ching and discover if having one in your bathroom is necessary. Of course, other people may not agree, but your towel needs heating because air drying isn’t always possible. This special electric towel warmer can be your trustworthy partner during those cold winter nights. Designed by Elisa Ossino, the Tubes Radiotori I CHING is made of steel and can be available in a horizontal or vertical orientation. The I Ching can be customized according to the personal experience you can imagine and the plan of your home interiors—in different colors and finishes or a series of combinations.

Tubes Radiotori Heated Towel Rail

The Tubes I Ching elements can be installed on the wall with double intention: to serve as a towel warmer and as a decor. Undoubtedly, the designer heated towel rail can catch your attention with its shape and minimalism. You can use one or install a few in multiple compositions, hues, and sizes. Another important selling point of the I Ching system is that you can create graphic compositions on the wall with it. Definitely, the stainless steel heating module is elegant, and on its own, it can embellish the wall of any room or bathroom. It will look good especially in the bathroom or in areas where you need to fold, roll up, or hang the towel. Making this another impressive product is the fact that you can program it with a wireless thermostat and adjust it via touch controls.

Tubes Radiotori Trame

Trame Tubes Sett 16796

The Trame is a designer radiator with a beautiful silhouette–looking like threads from afar despite being made with classic tubular steel. What appears to be a soft installation on the wall is simply the woven pattern effect. Designer Stefano Giovannoni styled the Trame with simplicity in mind, but the overall effect is a stylish fixture one would love to see at home.

Tubes Radiotori offers a complex design and creative manufacturing in the form of the Trame. There is some sort of dynamism when you look at it, but it’s really just a beautifully-designed radiator for the home. It is available in different versions: electric, hydraulic, or mixed–also ready in three variants: Trame 14 (14mm), Trame 20 (20mm) and Trame 28 (28mm). The variants mainly differ in the diameter of the tubular elements, but only the 20mm and 28mm versions can be displayed in vertical or horizontal. Any Trame model will go well with the I Ching tower rail, so you can finally complete that designer bathroom you’ve been dreaming of.

A wall-mounted air-purifying radiator with easy touchscreen controls will uplift your home interiors

Winters are fast approaching and it’s time we start thinking about keeping our homes warm. We take great care to make sure the home is ready for the chill, but we overlook the air quality indoors. This year, when we are spending a great deal of time indoors this is one factor we should not be neglecting. In that account, we need a radiator that also doubles as an air purifier – exactly what Italian designer Alessandro Stabile has conceived for kitchen appliance stalwart De’Longhi.

The designer has taken the scheme of this appliance very seriously and has fashioned it to be – easily wall mountable. Dubbed “Hygge”, it is according to the designer the world’s first wall-mounted air-purifying radiator. Aesthetically pleasing, the appliance can be integrated into any room in the house; it can instantly remove odors from the kitchen or offer comforting temperatures in the living room. The air purifying radiator when used in the bedroom can guarantee allergy sufferers a peaceful night’s sleep. Controlling the Hygge is as easy as it gets – a circular touchscreen panel on the top would allow you to effortlessly control the settings – like temperature and switching to air purification option with a simple click.

Hygge lives up to its Danish meaning of “action associated with a sensation of comfort, safety, and coziness” and presents homeowners with a sense of happiness – with pure air and a cozy warm environment. The patented idea is an integral part of the De’Longhi Home Radiators 2020 and may be ready now to keep homes warm through the winters and the indoor air – pure, clean, and healthy to breathe. After all, that’s what we are craving for this winter stint, aren’t we?

A wireless electric heater to keep you warm wherever you are

We are used to seeing radiators as an obvious part of a room. No matter how slim you make its form, the design has the slab or chunky look to it.

The Promenade is a simple U – shaped rod, that sits discreetly in any room. To make it portable in design, there is a wheel system fitted to the bottom of the pipe. When in use, the tube lights up ambient-ly, indicating that it is in use.

Using battery charging as its mainstay, the heater can be lined up together – six at a time – and charged at one go. Collectively the heat emitted is strong, so its best to be mindful of this.

Designer: Jaeyong Lee

“Promenade has the meaning of walking. The promenade can be moved together when the user moves to the desired space. This will provide enough functionality and aesthetics to warm the user’s emotions,” Lee told Yanko Design.

“Charged wireless heaters move around the space and warm the atmosphere as well as the air.”

“On the front is an LED that shows the charge status and temperature. The lower part has a terminal for charging and one wheel for movement.”

“One wheel at the bottom does not roll when standing upright.”

“When the user tilts to move this heavy heater, the wheels touch the floor and are movable.”

“Power can be obtained from the battery to heat the coils and dissipate high heat.”

Dry, sanitize, purify, and warm public washrooms with this device

Radryer is a radical concept that looks at combining three functionalities into one. You may argue that it’s not necessary to cramp three diverse functions into one, but if you ask me, they functions complement each other – so why not!

Radryer is a hand dryer and sterilizer, it is also an air purifier and a radiator. The combination makes complete sense in the bathroom or a public toilet. Would love to see this one materialize.

Designer: Jinyoung Noh

“Radiators that appear in the toilet every winter have nuts and holes that do not look good when not in use. I thought it would solve the aesthetic problem if the seasonal product could be combined with other toilet device’s problem,” Noh told Yanko Design.

A neat looking heat sheet

woven_heater_1

There’s a myriad of products out there just waiting to step out of their functional avatar and become a thing of beauty. You see, technology is bound to make things better; but it’s only design that can make something aesthetic. And that only happens when an ambitious designer’s gaze falls upon a mundane looking product. A team from the ENSCI Institute in France gave the radiator its much needed aesthetic liberation.

The radiator makes use of Porcelain pieces that are “woven” together with the heating wire. Porcelain does a tremendous job of diffusing heat. Not to mention the porcelain woven structure is highly breathable, allowing the air passing through to be heated quickly and effectively. The radiator’s “porcelain pixel” based design also gives it the ability to sport beautiful color patterns and gradients! What you therefore have is something that’s made better looking and much more functional through design. It’s tremendously pleasing to see when design actually enables technology to do a better job!
