Growing up, I was a big fan of anime and I didn’t even know what anime was. All I knew was these awesome cartoons came on a local TV station during the afternoon called Robotech and Star Blazers. Heck, I can still sing the Star Blazers theme to this day. Robotech was my favorite because I was really into motorcycles at the time and I loved the Cyclone bike that turned into a robot suit for the rider to wear.

I even had the Cyclone toy back in the day and it was incredibly hard to transform. In fact, I ended up breaking the wheel off trying to change it into a robot and I am still bitter about that. Fans of Robotech should be thrilled to hear that Sony Pictures has picked up the right to turn the anime series into a live action movie. Sony is moving quickly into production and already has producers and a writer for the script.

The producers attached include Gianni Nunnari and Mark Canton. Canton was a producer on 300 and The Immortals. The scriptwriter is Michael Gordon, the same dude who wrote 300 and GI Joe. I think 300 was an awesome film, but GI Joe sucked pretty badly. He had better bring his 300 quality writing game to Robotech. There is no indication when the film might hit theaters.
