EA SimCity BuildIt Brings City Crafting to the Small Screen

I have loved to play SimCity in all its iterations on the PC over the years. I like to craft the cities and see how much money I can make. I also both love and hate the natural disasters that can befall your city and crush all your hard work. EA has revealed that it will be bringing a new SimCity game to iOS and Android mobile devices.

The game is called SimCity BuildIt and as yet, the gameplay details are unknown. We don’t know if it will have those annoyingly cool natural disasters for instance. What we do know is that the game will support gestures and players will get to construct cities.

Citizens of your virtual city will get angry if you make bad decisions. EA said, “The choices you make evolve your city in a variety of ways. Meet your citizens’ needs to keep them happy, or make questionable choices and feel your citizens’ wrath.”

“Pinch, zoom, and rotate 360 degrees as you manage your city in the palm of your hand. With countless buildings and vivid, 3D-quality graphics, it’s the most advanced mobile building simulation game.”

There’s no word yet on when SimCity BuildIt will be released, but I’m looking forward to checking it out.

SimCity 4 Region Has Nearly 108 Million Residents: A Game to Kill For

Unleash a tornado on your puny SimCities, because they’re nothing compared to YouTuber Peter Ritchie’s SimCity 4 region. Supposedly made without cheats or mods, Peter’s region is made of 81 large city tiles and has 107,658,254 Sims. And they’re all probably stuck in traffic.

The united cities of Peter also have 16,492mi of paved roads, 5,360mi of subway lines and produce 6,000,000MW of electricity. According to Motherboard, Peter “spent a couple of months planning things out before beginning construction in March”, and finally completed it last August. But all is not well with Peter’s otherwise flourishing land. Speaking with Motherboard, Peter said that traffic congestion is one of his region’s biggest problems: “The massive amount of subway lines and subway stations are still congested during all times of the day in all neighborhoods of each and every mega-city in the region. The roadways are clogged at all times, but people still persist in trying to use them.”

In response to the inevitable “get a life” troll comment, Peter had this to say: “This is what I would play for 30 minutes to an hour at night after the wife/kid went to sleep. Or on rainy days. I would say I game less than most people, but when I do, I do it right.” And by right he means making hundreds of millions of virtual people suffer, so yeah, uhm, burn!

SimCity: Cities of Tomorrow Expansion Pack Coming in November

When the new SimCity game launched earlier this year, it caught a huge amount of flack for requiring an Internet connection to play and bunch of server issues that prevented many gamers from playing for a long time. Those launch woes are behind the game now, and Maxis has announced its first expansion pack is coming on November 15.

The expansion pack will be available for PC and Mac gamers and is called SimCity: Cities of Tomorrow. The expansion pack is set 50 years in the future from the original game and brings a number of new technologies and planning techniques for your cities. Keep in mind that game does still require an Internet connection to play.

One of the complaints of the most recent SimCity was that larger maps were needed to allow people to build bigger cities. The expansion pack doesn’t expand the city size, but does introduce MegaTowers that allow players to build their cities vertically. The expansion also includes an exclusive disaster and a new villain in the form of a corporation that strip mines resources and pollutes the environment.
