Slē plywood sled is for all ages and durable

Winter is coming – no more fun saying because GoT is done and dusted, nevertheless, let’s look at Slē, the plywood sled. Inspired by bent plywood structures and joints that we see in everyday life, the dynamic design of the sled is a talking point.

Crafted to suit all ages – children and adults – there is a lot of research has gone into the making of this product. The aim of the Slē is to enhance user experience and yet be high-quality and stylish. Featuring a tilted seat, the frame of this sled is designed for slopes, keeping maneuverability in mind. The sled can tackle slopes with up to 25% gradient, with ease.

I quite like the double arch of the seat as that acts as a buffer or shock absorber while riding down the slopes. To keep it durable, the soles of the sledge are fitted with a T-shape stainless steel cover, which protects the edges of the plywood against impacts and damages.

You can even clip the leash when not in use, making this a very well thought-out design.

Russian Dad Builds Daughter Leaf Blower Powered Sled

A guy recently built his daughter a sweet winter sled, powered by two leaf blowers. It was made by a very cool dad from Belgorod, Russia, and he is clearly winning at the parenting game.

The video below is only about 18 seconds long, but that’s long enough to show off this crazy creation as it propels the kid through the snow chasing an adult. It looks like this sled gets up to a decent speed too, but not fast enough for me. I would add at least three more industrial-strength leaf blowers. And put a plow on the front too. There’s no reason that kid can’t be plowing the driveway while she’s having all of that fun. And give those blowers some sway so she can make turns. But otherwise, it’s pretty damn cool.

I saw someone in the comments section saying “It blows!” Whatever man. Why don’t you make like a tree and leaf!

Man, these kids today have way cooler dads than we had when I was a kid. Back then our dads were all like “Do your homework” and stuff. Now fathers all over the world are building cool stuff for their kids. I want a dad like this guy.

World’s First Wearable Sled!

Winter is almost in full swing, which means it’s about time to make the most of some fresh powdery snow. This season, strap on some Sled Legs for an entirely new downhill thrill! The wearable design straps comfortably to the lower legs/knees and their durable polymer shell is specially adapted to let you carve through snow.

Inspired by the sled and modified for the human anatomy, they’re comfortable to wear and allow for complete freedom of movement. Because you’re not bound to a board or cumbersome skis, you can go off trail and shred just about anywhere! Better yet, their compact size makes them easier to carry than a full size board or skis!

Need for Speed: Santa Edition

santa_ride_1

Ten days back, the entire world was celebrating Christmas. Designer Nikos Manafis, was up to something a little out of the box. He was pimping ol’ Saint Nick’s ride. Yes, that’s what we call him now… Saint Nick and his hover-sled.

This absolutely mental sled seems perfect for a man who needs to cover the entire world in a single day delivering gifts. And since he’s been doing this for centuries now, he really deserves the upgrade, don’t you think?!

Star Wars AT-AT Walker Sled: The Empire Slides Back

Check out this massive AT-AT walker that doubles as a sled. It wasn’t built by the Empire, which is why it isn’t the size of a skyscraper. Doug Brewbaker, Garret Geiger, and James Groves spent 70 hours building this amazing seven-foot, eight-inch tall AT-AT Walker sled.

This incredible beast was made out of only cardboard, paper, glue, tape, and paint. This huge four-legged sled went up against 50 other competitors at the 8th Annual Cardboard Classic in Lansing, Michigan on January 25th, 2014.

Unfortunately its journey only lasted about 15 seconds as it descended down a hill. I suspect it was a snowspeeder with a tow cable that took it down.

Snolo Carbon Fiber Sled Hasn’t Got a Motor, But It Sure Looks Fast

Snowmobiles are fun and fast, but when you just want to get down a big snow-covered hill, there’s nothing like a sled. If you’re the kind of speed freak that enjoys going 40mph downhill, then this sled might be for you.

The Snolo Stealth-X Sled might break your bank account, but that’s because it’s made almost completely of carbon fiber. The entire shell is made out of one piece and is contour-molded in the seating area to fit your bum perfectly. It even has a padded back rest to keep you comfortable while you zip along this winter. There’s a single, steerable ski at the front, and two at the back.

The Snolo will give you the maneuverability of a snowboard, and blistering fast downhill speeds – but get ready to cry, because this baby costs a whopping $2,550(USD)!

Millennium Falcon Sled: The Falcon Goes to Hoth

This Millennium Falcon sled probably won’t do the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs, but if there is snow, this ship has got it where it counts. Sean Murray built this awesome sled for an office event – and also for his Star Wars loving daughter to enjoy.

millennium falcon sled 1

Each year, Sean’s job holds a Winter carnival where each section forms a team and selects a theme. So he put a team together and chose Star Wars. One of the events was a human dogsled race – and what better ship for a dogsled race than the Falcon? After all, Chewbacca was inspired by an Alaskan Malamute, a dog best know for its ability to pull a sled.

The Falcon sled is made entirely of cardboard and mounted to a plastic toboggan. While the cardboard might not hold up to snow as well as the mass-produced Falcon sled, this one is way cooler, plus it’s a great way to get around Hoth.

Well done Sean. It would be fun to see two kids inside dressed like Han and Chewie.

High Performance Sled

Winter is officially here and even those of us in sunny SoCal are looking forward to playing in the snow! Now, if only we could get our hands on New Zealand based design company 4DESIGN’s Stealth-X snow sled. This super lightweight, monocoque sled is made entirely of carbon fiber to enhance its strength. Sitting in a position similar to an F1 car, the rider leans as they would a motorcycle to navigate turns at a top speed of 40MPH. It’s so maneuverable it can be skidded to a stop just like a snowboard. Leave it to the Kiwis!

When you’re done with your run, simply fold it up and carry in your backpack!
