Sony stepped up to the plate on Monday night to present what it had in store for its PlayStation platforms in 2014 and beyond. And it was a lot.

The first day of E3 2014 has come to a close with Sony’s E3 press conference. And from start to end, minus a few diversions here and there talking about “services” and “television content”, Sony Computer Entertainment brought out a sharp, laser-focused array of video games. Lots of them. All from within Sony and from third-parties big and small.

That’s business as usual around E3 time, of course. But more so in regards to Sony’s “for the gamers” mantra they so boldly claim. With that said, let’s get right down into what was shown during their E3 show. E3 HYPE TRAIN SET COURSE!

Destiny

From the start was Bungie’s Destiny, the sci-fi shooter from the former Halo developers that looks in fine form judging by its latest trailer. It shows off the game’s “Humans terraforming Mars” lore and in-game action. Sony also announced that the Destiny beta will first hit the PlayStation 4 on July 17, with a “first look” alpha coming to console this Thursday, June 12 that fans can get into through Greatnessawaits.com/Destiny.

Sony also announced a Destiny PlayStation 4 bundle that will go on sale September 9, which comes packed with a white PS4 console – that looks quite pretty (and also like a giant white chocolate Kitkat) – and a copy of Bungie shooter.

The Order: 1886

Despite the bad news of it being delayed to early 2015, Sony still moved forward with studio Ready at Dawn’s first crack at their own PlayStation 4 release by showing a new trailer for The Order: 1886. The cover-shooter blends a lot of fictional items – survival-horror and steam-punk Victorian-era England in particular – that sets itself up nicely for its upcoming release next year.

Entwined

Next, Sony surprised us with a marvelous-looking game for the PS4 where you control an abstract flying dragon on a tale about love. The even more surpassing thing though, was the news that this small-team made title would be available today, June 9, for $10. And true to their word, the game can be bought buy right now through the PlayStation Store.

InFamous: First Light

Hot on the heels of its March release, Sucker Punch is pushing out more content for inFamous: Second Son with a DLC expansion called inFamous: First Light. No worries if you haven’t got around to playing Second Son (but do so anyway, because its good and all), First Light is a standalone title that you can buy separately on the PS4 soon.

LittleBigPlanet 3

Sackboy is back with new cute friends and new fun levels to romp through in this latest installment for the PlayStation 4, coming in December. The game seems to be designed with friendly couch co-op in mind, as each new Sackboy pal comes with their own unique platforming talents.

Better yet, LittleBigPlanet 3 invites players to not only discover the user-generated levels in this upcoming title, but also in LBP and LBP2 via backwards compatibility.

Bloodborne

I’m quite certain you will die a whole flippin’ lot if there’s anything to by the trailer for the upcoming From Software title, which is joint project between Sony’s Japan Studio and the makers of the Dark Soul series. Bloodborne finely summons the developer’s great sense of making dark, brooding themes and should be something to behold (and feared difficulty wise) when it launches exclusively for the PS4 in 2015.

Far Cry 4

Ubisoft’s Far Cry 4 had a big spot at Sony’s presser with a new trailer that showed an exploding sample of vehicles, weapons, and rampaging elephants(?) within the game. There was also talk of an interesting PlayStation 4-only feature that allows folks who own the PS4 game to invite their friends to join them Far Cry 4 co-op missions even if that person doesn’t own it.

Dead Island 2

You want more zombies? Well, deal with it because you’re getting them anyway via Deep Silver’s follow-up to their first zombie-smashing title in Dead Island 2. Thankfully, Deep Silver doesn’t try to take the genre seriously, and their trailer for it at Sony’s E3 presser represents that in laughing style. There’s also an exclusive 30-day online beta for the game in the works, too. 

Magika 2

The sequel to the multiplayer dungeon-crawling role-playing game from Paradox Interactive is coming exclusively to the PlayStation 4 sometime this fall.

Grim Fandango

A remake/remaster of the classic adventure game from Double Fine is in the works for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. No release date yet.

Let It Die

Suda 51 (No More Heroes, killer7, Lollipop Chainsaw) is known for his crazy action titles, and his upcoming latest – developed alongside GunHo Online Entertainment -  is no different. Let It Die is set for a PlayStation 4 release sometime in the near future.

Indie Spotlight

Ahh… my favorite part of the show, especially from Sony, who has been the champion of Indie games for quite some time. Tonight they revealed a cool line-up of appealing titles such as Broforce, Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number, Not A Hero, Titan Souls, and The Talos Principle.

Abzu

The creators of the soulful Journey on the PlayStation 3 are back with a new game for the PS4. And like before, the crew has once again recreated an amazing-looking visual and audio experience dealing with the wonders of the deep blue. Absolutely breathtaking.

No Man’s Sky

Hello Games possibly stole the show this evening with their first full trailer for No Man’s Sky. My mouth dropped when I saw this future PS4 title in motion, seeing the game’s impressive, procedurally generated, massive sci-fi universe span out seamlessly from land to space (without immersion-breaking load times to boot), and I bet you probably will too.

Project Morpheus

Sony’s virtual reality headset will have a small showing at E3, but it will be most tech demos for expo goers. Reportedly, all gaming-focused projects are still in development. Although, one bit of relevant info is that the head-mounted display will work with the PlayStation camera peripheral on the PS4.

Free-to-Play Games

More free-to-play games are on their way to PlayStation 4, with the likes of Planetside 2, Loadout, and tons more releasing for the console later this year.

PlayStation Now

Sony’s game-streaming service will launch on the PlayStation 4 starting July 31 as an open public beta. Afterwards at a later date, users on both the PlayStation 3 and PSVita will be able to then access and stream over 100 games from Sony and its third-party partners. There’s also plans for the service to launch on select Sony TV sets.

PlayStation TV

Announced last year at the Tokyo Game Show, the mini-console that allows remote play of PlayStation 4/PS3/PS Vita games on any TV its connected to will final make landfall in North America for $99. Sony will also sell a bundled version that comes with a Dual Shock 3 controller, an 8 GB memory card, and a voucher for The Lego Movie for for $139.

Mortal Kombat X

The gameplay reveal for the next Mortal Kombat game from NetherRealms studios also showed up at Sony’s E3 presser – and yeah, it the typical blood-flying, bone-crushing fisticuffs the series has been know for. This time, it’s for next gen.

Powers

Sony is producing a live-action television series based upon the Brian Michael Bendis comic book Powers, which releases on all PlayStation devices around December. For PlayStation Plus subscribers, the exclusive series will be free to watch for all who are members.

Ratchet & Clank: The Movie

Insomniac Game’s famed, space-adventuring duo is heading to the big screen with a full-length animated feature coming out in 2015. Alongside it, a reboot/reimagining of the first PlayStation 2 game in the 3D-platforming series is being developed. No clue on how that looks, but we do get to see an awesome trailer of the movie.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Here’s a new trailer for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, the tactical stealth game in the long-running popular series that is coming for both the PS4 and PS3 in 2015. Continuing from Ground Zeroes, the game continues to unfold the saga of Solid Snake’s legendary soldier papa, Big Boss. The trailer is all kinds of emo, but the kind I love dearly.

Grand Theft Auto V

Rockstar Games is bring its hit open-world crime game Grand Theft Auto V to the PlayStation 4, which also lets PS3 owners transfer their current GTA Online save file over to the PS4.

The Last of Us Remastered

The enhanced PlayStation 4 port of 2013′s best game (of the forever) on the PlayStation 3 finally has set-in-stone release date for next month – July 29th. The title not only comes with The Last of Us, but also its fantastic expansion DLC, Left Behind.

Batman: Arkham Knight

Bats, as I like to call him, is making his way to the PlayStation 4 as well, but sadly it won’t be until 2015 at the latest (that’s pretty much the theme of this year’s E3 with almost every game, everything is 2015). Here’s a nice trailer of the game to at least to keep us busy with for the time being.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Closing out Sony’s E3 press conference was none other than Naught Dog studios and, of course, Uncharted 4. We get to see what feisty adventurer Nathan Drake is up to this time in this very brief story-set-up trailer, which was captured footage from a PlayStation 4. It looks fantastic. It’s also not out until 2015. *Sigh* Oh well.

Bummer about that release date, but at least it’s something quite cool to look forward to – much like the full line-up of games Sony revealed tonight at their E3 2014 presentation. Take a bow Sony, you did good.
