10 Best Tablet Computers to get Before 2015 Ends

Microsoft Pro Surface 4

It’s difficult choosing a tablet computer from the endless selection out there, but sifting through the iPads, IPad minis, iPad Pros and also Samsung Tablets, Microsoft Surfaces and even a Dell tablet, we’ve managed to put together a useful list of the 10 best tablets out there.

LG G Pad 8.3

The LG G Pad 8.3 is the best tablet ever made by the company, and it’s an excellent choice for those looking for a nice tablet. Some consider it to be the best 8-inch tablet out there. The images are sharp and detailed, while text appears crisp and easy to read. The IPS panel has fantastic viewing angles and fantastic coloring as well.

Dell Venue 8 7000

An ultra thin tablet from a company that hit a home run with the Dell Venue 8 7000 contrary to the usual expectations from Dell tablets. The sharp OLED display makes it awesome to look at, and it’s great for photography and pictures thanks to a pair of cool depth of field-manipulating cameras to play with on back.

Amazon Fire HD 6

There are better tablets around, but when you mix in the issue of value, few are better than the Amazon Fire HD 6, which is almost small enough to be considered a smartphone. It comes with a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM and both front and rear facing cameras. It might not be the best one out there, but for those looking to cheapen their costs, it’s an excellent option.

Google Nexus 9

For people who are 100% about android systems, the Google Nexus 9 just might be the thing for you, even if it a bit expensive. It comes with the latest Nvidia 64-bit processor, a decent 2GB of RAM, dual front-facing speakers and a decent battery to keep it all up and running for a little over nine hours. It’s hardware also makes it worthwhile.

Microsoft Surface Pro 4

The Microsoft Surface Pro 4 might be the closest thing to a laptop you can get from you tablet computer, vastly upgraded from the previous version, even in the subtle changes. It looks gorgeous, especially without the Windows button for the extra room of three tenths of an inch. The display is incredibly responsive to touch, and the further nuance it brings to the stylus experience is huge. In tandem with the new Surface Pen, the screen detects 1,024 levels of pressure, even during one, single stroke.

iPad Pro

It might be inferior to the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 in some visual aspects, but overall, the iPad Pro is the superior product, being the biggest and maybe the best tablet Apple have ever made. It’s incredibly powerful with a huge screen, and the excellent speaker sound provides another bonus to one of the best products of its kind out there if not the best.

Sony Xperia Z4

Sony hit a homerun with the Sony Xperia Z4 with some tablet reviews claiming it’s the only one that can compete with the number one tablet computer on our list. It might be a bit pricey, but it’s beautiful display, excellent new design compared to previous Sony products and a very strong battery life make it worth.

iPad Mini 4

As with most Apple products, the iPad MIni 4 is more expensive than most 8-inch tablets on the market. However, it has a much stronger processor, better cameras, more vivid Retina display, slightly slimmed-down design, and the ability to run split-screen apps in iOS 9, maintaining its superiority in the 8-inch tablet computer market.

Galaxy Tab S2

Not everything is perfect with the Galaxy Tab S2 like its battery life and so-so camera, but the thin and super light design, combined with the new 4:3 display, microSD card slot and improved TouchWiz software make it a fine competitor to the king of the tablet computer arena, with an “expertise” in web surfing and Flipboard reading.

iPad Air 2

Like every other tablet around, the iPad Air 2 isn’t perfect, but it’s probably the closest one to perfection. The size and weight are in excellent balance, the iOS 9 (including split screen apps) runs perfectly on it and it’s difficult to get smoother and crisper visuals from its competitors. Its price has become more and more affordable, making the 64GB version a must have if you’re going to go for this one.

Sony introduce their Metal Gear Solid themed Xperia

metal_gear_smartphone-01

Sony introduced their next Xperia phone, the Sony Xperia J1 Compact themed after the Metal Gear Solid video game series, which is coming back in September with Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain.

It’s not very common to see smartphones in the market themed after popular video games. They generally get themes after brands such as Ferrari or Porsche, or popular franchises at the time such as Samsung’s Iron Man themed Galaxy series, but gamers can be happy now as Sony have introduced their Sony Xperia J1 Compact, themed after the upcoming video game Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain. Gamers will be able to buy their Sony smartphone sporting an Outer Haven logo on the back, along with wallpapers, ringtones and an artbook to match, all based on the Metal Gear franchise. The J1 Compact will be the only Xperia model to include all of these items, although the Xperia Z4 tablet and Xperia Z3 Compact will feature themed framed and casing. The Sony Xperia J1 Compact The Phantom Pain edition will be available for preorders on September for $480 USD.

The specs will be no different from the regular edition, so this is more of a treat for fans than its own, unique model. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is one of the most awaited video games of the last few years, and with its conflicted yet imminent launch happening in a couple weeks for now, it has made quite a few headlines. For example, creator Hideo Kojima will be leaving Konami after the release of the game after the company canceled his other project Silent Hills (which had Guillermo del Toro’s collaboration, even) amongst many other news.

The Sony Xperia M4 Aqua Is a Powerful Waterproof Phone

Sony Xperia M4 Aqua in water

As Sony looks to revive its ailing smartphone business, the Japanese company announces the Sony Xperia M4 Aqua waterproof smartphone.

It’s been widely reported these past few weeks that Sony’s profits aren’t looking so hot. By the time the current financial year ends on April 1st, Sony will have lost over $1 billion, losses that would be significantly worse had it not been for the phenomenal success of the PlayStation 4 which had sold just over 20 million units as of this month. One reason for their financial instability is their smartphone business; Sony just can’t compete with Apple, Samsung and co. and everyone is telling them to sell it off. Alas, those at Sony are a stubborn bunch which is why they have now announced the Sony Xperia M4 Aqua which partners processing power with a waterproof body.

On the inside, the Xperia M4 Aqua is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor (two quad core processors of 1.5 GHz and 1.0 GHz) and has 2GB of RAM. Essentially, this means that Sony’s phone is a stellar mid-range effort that will be able to handle most intensive apps with little to minimal trouble. The phone also has a a 13 megapixel camera on the back and a 5 megapixel camera up front – these are great specs on their own but given that Sony’s camera business is another thing keeping them afloat right now, your selfies and Instagram updates are certainly in good hands.

As for the waterproof side of things, the Sony Xperia M4 Aqua is offering a waterproof phone without any of those usual annoying rubber fixtures. However, waterproof does not mean indestructible and so Sony has advised the following: don’t submerge the phone in water deeper than 1.5 metres, don’t put the phone in salt water and don’t put it in chlorinated water (swimming pools etc.) and if you do get chlorinated water on it, you have to rinse it off afterwards. You’ll also need to make sure the phone is dry again before you charge it: this seems obvious but if you don’t want to accidentally blow the electrical socket/your phone up or endanger yourself, you should heed Sony’s warning.

Also providing a good reason to buy the Sony Xperia M4 Aqua is its price. Sony is selling the handset for a reasonable 299 Euros and it will be available in 80 countries (excluding the United States).

Sony introduces their new waterproof gadgets

Sony waterproof phone

Sony seems ready to get rid of their mobile division, but not just yet, as MWC 2015 saw them introduce a few new waterproof phones and tablets.

The latest phones and tablets introduced by Sony at MWC 2015 in Barcelona were the Xperia M4 Aqua and the Xperia Z4 tablet, a couple of waterproof gadgets that might be amongst Sony’s latest offerings in the mobile department, ever.

The phone is capable of resisting half a meter of water pressure for some 30 minutes, which is ideal for withstanding accidents by the pool or beverages spilling. The Xperia M4 Aqua has a 5 inch screen (1280 x 720), an 8 core processor at 1,5GHz, 2GB RAM, and comes in two version of 8 and 16GB storage with front and back cameras of 5 and 13 megapixels respectively – the best part being that Sony claim the battery is good enough for some 48 hours. This phone will retail for €299 in Europe.

The tablet, the Xperia Z4, is one of the slimmest tablets in the market at barely 6,1 mm. It’s powered by a Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB RAM, and 32GB of storage, which can be expanded via Micro SD cards. Of course, both devices will run Android Lollipop as their default OS.

Sony camera UI leaks from ‘Honami’ system dump, gets ported to existing Xperia devices

Sony camera UI leaks from 'Honami' system dump, gets ported to existing Xperia devices

We've been hearing stacks of rumors recently about a Sony flagship called Honami, which will supposedly come with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 and a 20-megapixel camera. A system dump, purportedly from a Honami phone, surfaced last week and now XDA developer "krabappel2548" has managed to dissect the camera app and get it working on some existing Xperia devices -- including the Xperia Z, ZL and Tablet Z, so long as they've been suitably prepped for hacking. From the resulting screenshots, it looks like Sony is set to introduce features such as augmented reality, "Time shift" (which sounds a lot like HTC's Zoe feature), live filters and an image search engine dubbed "Info-eye." All of this sounds reasonably in tune with the "One Sony" strategy of focusing on mobile and imaging. If Honami is real, and if it comes with the right hardware to support the updated camera module, it could be a big deal.

Sony Xperia Z Coming Soon to the USA

Sony Xperia ZImage via Engadget.

The long wait for the Xperia Z is almost over. Sony CEO Kaz Hirai delivered some good news at the D11 conference when he announced that Sony’s flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z, will be arriving at US carriers shortly. With him was Phil Molyneux, who added that further details on the announcement will be provided in the “coming weeks.” Neither named any specific carriers nor did they expound on the actual date on the phone’s release, but at least we’ve got confirmation that it’s going to be sometime soon.

Sony Xperia Z-

When asked about how Sony would differentiate the glass-backed and waterproof Xperia Z to the US market, Hirai didn’t go into specifics but said that they had “more work to do.” He, however, pointed out that the Xperia Z was the best-selling smartphone in Japan for six consecutive weeks, saying: “We were able to do that — it’s above and beyond Sony technology. It’s the Sony brand. Think about the marketing prowess we bring.”

Sony Xperia S39h spotted in leaked photos, looks to be a dual-SIM Xperia L

Sony S39h leaked photos point to a slightly tweaked Xperia L

An unannounced Sony phone with the model number S39h has been spotted by Xperia Blog. There are no specs or launch details to share, but Engadget China has it pegged as a dual-SIM phone. It's similar to the Xperia L (S36h), albeit with some small differences like a relocated front-facing camera. Not as glamorous as a dual-SIM Galaxy S 4, perhaps, but two signal bars are always nice to see.
