Guy Makes a Giant-sized Soundwave Boombox

Everyone has their favorite Transformers from the original animated series. For some it’s Optimus Prime, for others it’s Bumblebee or Grimlock, but for many Soundwave is the best Transformer ever. For those fans, this custom Soundwave-shaped boombox is everything.

So what genius made this geek masterpiece? That would be Bob from the YouTube channel I Like To Make Stuff. He makes all kinds of cool stuff so that the rest of us can be inspired. To create this awesome boombox, he used a combination of MDF for the speaker’s housing, foam for the buttons and other non-functional details, and there is also a pair of Bluetooth speakers hidden inside.

Okay, technically Soundwave wasn’t a boombox, but maybe he should have been. It was the ’80s after all. Sadly this thing doesn’t transform, but that’s okay. It is completely awesome just the way it is. It is a non-transformer that will blast tunes wirelessly streamed from your smartphone. Especially if those tunes are from any of the Transformers soundtracks.

Bob really did some great work on this, and all of the details are just perfect. Now if he can just make it transform, it would be absolutely perfect. Get on that Bob.

Getting An Art Print of a Sound Seems Like A Great Gift Idea

This Holiday season, why not get that special person in your life something they will remember forever, Season 5 of Breaking Bad on Blu-Ray. Of course, if they already have that, you can always get them something more personal, like an art print of any recorded sound.

NewtonAndTheApple is an Etsy shop that is known for their high-quality prints of sound-wave images. Just send them a recorded file and get sent a beautiful print that you can have framed.

Now, the recording you choose is entirely up to you. It could be a baby’s first words, or a secret recording of the first time you said “I love you”, or any of that schmaltzy stuff. Of course, I’d go with the opening piano notes of Kanye West’s ‘Runaway’, but I’m sure you already knew that.

You can also customize the artwork, picking out any color for the wavelength and the background, and you can even have multiple sounds layer for a rather pretty mosaic.

Prices range from ~$30 for a small print to ~$65 for a longer song print, but the shop has stellar reviews, so I have no doubt this would make for an amazing gift.

Transformers Masterpiece Custom Cartoon Paint Job: Figures in Disguise

Last year we checked out an awesome Gundam model that was painted to look like it was an anime drawing. Transformers action figure painter LEK Custom Toys did the same trick to Takara Tomy Masterpiece Optimus Prime and Soundwave figures.

The two-dimensional effect in LEK’s work isn’t as convincing as the one in the aforementioned Gundam model, though the way these photos were taken didn’t help reinforce the illusion. Still, LEK did a good job of mimicking the original cartoons.
