LEGO meets Mario with this retro and iconic Super Mario Piranha Plant

I am a huge fan of Legos in the sense that I like looking at the finished products, especially if they’re pop culture-related. But I basically don’t have the patience to put those elaborate sets together so I actually am not tempted to buy any of these sets (aside from the fact that they can be really expensive). But I do like seeing videos of how they’re put together or looking at pictures of what it looks like upon its final build. If you’re a Super Mario fan, this upcoming new product to add to the LEGO Super Mario sets may be of interest, or for people like me, may be of interest to read about.

Designer: LEGO

The LEGO Super Mario Piranha Plant is made up of 540 pieces and when put together, you get exactly what its name says. The sharp-toothed Piranha Plant is one of the most annoying things you can get when you’re playing the game. Now you can commemorate this “villain” by putting together the LEGO set which is also camera-ready since you want to show off that you were able to finish this masterpiece.

The plant has most of the details and chracteristics that you see in the game, including spiky leaves, the polka-dot head, and the green pipe from which it grows. You even get two gold coins as well similar to the game and you can store it in the pipe. Once you finish it, it’s perfect for displaying in your desk, bookshelf, or if you’re a serious LEGO collector, add it to your display case. It’s just 9 inches in height so it won’t take up much space.

The LEGO Piranha Plant will be available this coming November and is priced at $59.99. It’s pretty affordable compared to the more elaborate hundreds or even thousands of dollar sets that LEGO has released. You can add it to other Super Mario themed sets like The Mighty Bowser and the Super Mario 64 Block.

You can now own a LEGO Version of the Iconic ‘Piranha Plant’ from Super Mario

Don’t worry, it won’t eat your stationery or deplete a life!

While the Piranha Plant was always considered the scourge of the Super Mario landscape, LEGO helps rehabilitate the plant’s character, turning it into a lovable little desk accessory for Mario fans. The Piranha Plant is a 540-brick masterpiece that stands at an impressive 9 inches tall. It has a movable jaw, adjustable head, positionable leaves, and comes with two golden coins that you can drop right into the plant’s pipe as a surprise trinket!

Designer: LEGO

This 540-piece marvel allows you to capture every distinctive feature of the life-sucking plant from the iconic 1983 Nintendo game. Pose its head, mouth, stalk, and leaves to recreate those iconic in-game moments. With a relatively low brick count, the Piranha Plant is easy to assemble even for novices. Clear, step-by-step instructions in the box and on the LEGO® Builder app make it accessible even to newcomers to the LEGO world.

Standing tall at over 9 inches (23 cm) and measuring 4.5 inches (11 cm) wide, with a depth of 6.5 inches (17 cm), the Piranha Plant is a perfect addition to a display unit for Mario lovers and nostalgia-chasers alike. It’s also incredibly true to its inspiration, with an appearance so remarkable it looks like it was pulled right out of the video game. The Super Mario Piranha Plant (71426) set is scheduled for release on November 6, 2023, with a retail price of $59.99.

LEGO Builds a 14-Foot, 663,900 Piece 1:1 Scale Bowser for Comic-Con

To promote the upcoming release of its Mighty Bowser build set, LEGO went and constructed a massive 14-foot animatronic 1:1 scale replica of the reptilian villain, made up of over 663,900 pieces. Wow, now that’s a lot of pieces! They should make this a buyable set.

While 663,900 LEGO bricks are certainly nothing to shake a stick at, that’s still probably only half the number strewn across my living room floor that I have to tip-toe through in the middle of the night like a minefield on my way to the fridge for a midnight snack. Or, if I’m being completely honest, a midnight meal.

The King Bowser statue will be on display all this week at the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con, which I’ve unfortunately been unable to attend ever since my 2016 ban. You’d think I’d just be able to go in costume, and they wouldn’t be the wiser, but they must have microchipped me or something because security always manages to meet me at the door.

LEGO Releasing 2,807-Piece Mighty Bowser Build Set

Because LEGO and Nintendo are a match made in heaven, LEGO will release a 2,807-piece Mighty Bowser build set this October for $270. It’s not the cheapest LEGO set, but it is probably the most likely to steal the princess and constantly move her to another castle.

LEGO Bowser stands approximately 12.5″ tall, and his head and neck can be moved via a button underneath his shell, which can also be pressed to launch a fireball from his mouth. His arms, fingers, legs, and tail are all poseable, and if I don’t get one for Christmas this year, I’m ostracizing my entire family.

In the video, they talk about how fun a build it is, which I believe. Especially with the internal mechanisms to move Bowser’s head and shoot the fireball. Will I be able to build it successfully? Absolutely not. Not that I’m going to open it on Christmas anyways… so-called family that loves me!

This Mario Kart hovercraft is made from cardboard and looks like it’s floating off the ground

Being a hardcore fan doesn’t always mean having the real deal. Sometimes, it also pays to also step outside the box, like these cardboard masterpieces that actually work.

Among the many games attached to the Super Mario franchise, Mario Kart is perhaps one that is loved by almost all demographics. It isn’t as serious nor as demanding as other Mario titles, particularly the platformers, but is just as fun and perhaps even more so because of its wacky antics and controls. There have been many attempts at bringing this game to the real world, with some leading to sometimes legally questionable stunts, but one YouTuber goes the extra mile by making versions that are eco-friendly to some extent.

Designer: DanCreator

Things in the maker and design communities have changed drastically in the last few years. The Raspberry Pi and similar single-board computers or SBCs kicked off a variety of small and DIY projects that needed an affordable and small computer to run the show. 3D printing also made it possible for almost anyone to create parts for those creative endeavors. Nothing, however, truly says “creative” than creating something out of almost nothing using one of the most common materials available: cardboard.

YouTube=r DanCreator is more than just a gaming fanboy. He is also an artist and a maker that recreates childhood memories using cardboard and with very minimal electronics and even fewer non-recyclable materials. Of course, when making something that somewhat realistically recreates the feeling of Mario Kart, he does have to make some compromises. For example, he had to basically use a Nintendo Switch for one project while using a sheet of wood for another. It was, however, all worth it.

The creator loved Mario Kart so much that he did more than just one cardboard-based project. The first is perhaps a bit more common, an arcade cabinet that plays the game the way it is meant to be played, with a steering wheel. The more interesting project, however, is the hovercraft, a vehicle that is admittedly not present in the game. Granted, it’s also less sustainable, with the use of large fans and electricity to lift the lightweight construction off the ground. Seeing it slide over a smooth indoor gym floor, however, might make you forget that, even for a brief moment.

The Mario Kart hovercraft doesn’t exactly levitate over the ground. Instead, it uses inflatable tubes whose transparent bottoms give that illusion. At least he does reuse the steering wheel from the cardboard arcade cabinet on the hovercraft to reduce unnecessary duplication of parts, even if it’s merely decorative.

This adorable little tea-infuser looks exactly like the Piranha Plant from Super Mario!

When you’re not using it to brew tea, you could turn it into a prop for your Lego Mario set.

OTOTO‘s Tea Trap puts a fun spin on the art of brewing tea. Unlike those boring metal infusers, the Tea Trap models itself on a carnivorous plant that chomps down on your tea leaves. Once the Tea Trap’s stomach (or mouth) is full, just dunk it in a cup of hot water, and the tea begins infusing through the perforations on the sides of the infuser. Use the Tea Trap’s elongated handle to stir it around till your tea reaches the right color, and when you’re done, the Tea Trap will very kindly spit out the tea-leaves into the waste-bin, because nobody likes eating tea leaves… not even carnivorous plants!

Designer: OTOTO

The Tea Trap is made from stainless steel along with BPA-free silicone. It’s 100% food-safe and dishwasher-safe too.

Craft Your Own 3D Pixelated Papercraft Mario Figure: It’s-a Me, Mario!

Mario: he could never commit a crime and get away with it because absolutely everybody would be able to pick him out of a police lineup. I mean unless he took his hat off and shaved his mustache, then nobody would have any clue who he was. Created by user DAZMAKER, this is an Instructable detailing how to construct your own 3D pixelated Mario papercraft sculpture. I can already feel the stinging paper cuts on my fingers.

Crafting your own pixelated Mario papercraft sculpture basically involves using a razor blade to cut out a ton of paper pieces, then folding those and carefully taping those pieces together. No glue is required for the project, which is a good thing because my wife is probably getting tired of driving me to the hospital with one body part glued to another.

Am I going to make one? Maybe, but I might just start with only crafting Mario’s head first and going from there. I’m very noncommittal. Like when I said “I’ll give it the old college try” instead of “I do” during my wedding vows. My wife still holds that over my head during an argument.

‘Animal Crossing’ updates send Mario and Hello Kitty to Carnival

You can’t attend Carnival in Rio de Janeiro (or anywhere, really) due to the pandemic, but Nintendo thinks it can bring the celebration to you. It’s releasing an Animal Crossing: New Horizons Festivale update on January 28th that delivers that Brazil...

Super Mario Bob-omb Toilet Paper Holder Is Ready to Blow

If there’s something you never want to happen in your bathroom, it’s an explosion, except maybe one of those fizzy bath bombs in the tub. But if you’ve played enough Super Mario games, you know how to deal with a bomb, as long as it’s Bob-omb. Assuming you know how to keep this anthropomorphic explosive from blowing up, you might be comfortable with Bob hanging out in your bathroom.

This Bob-omb toilet paper cozy would look great in any Nintendo-themed bathroom, and I know that’s a really common bathroom decor theme. Simply load it up with a roll of your favorite toilet paper, and pull to expose the fuse of your bathroom bomb. As long as you don’t light the paper fuse or turn Bob-omb’s key, I think you’ll be okay.

This thing is awfully cute, but the idea of touching something made out of fabric while you’re on the toilet pooping makes me question whether this is really a practical bathroom accessory. I think I’d just use it to store a spare roll rather than use it as a dispenser.
