A LEGO Jeopardy! Kinetic Sculpture Built in Tribute to Alex Trebek

We all pay our respects in our own way, and LEGO builder and YouTuber Douglas Hughes decided to construct this kinetic Jeopardy! sculpture in honor of the late, great Alex Trebek. Featuring contestants Ken Jennings (most wins), Brad Rutter (most money won), and James Holzhauer (most records), the figures move and buzz in, complete with light effects. I’ll take Best Gameshow Host Of All Time for $1,000, Alex.

The methods of how Douglas was able to achieve the desired movement from the characters with minimal moving parts is pretty clever, which he shows at the end of the video, and discusses in detail in his build diary available on Bricknerd. I wish I had that sort of ingenuity, but I’m just happy if I remember to put my socks on before my shoes.

A fitting tribute to Trebek for sure. Me? I’ll pay my respects to Alex the only way I know how: continuing to yell completely wrong answers at the television from 7:00 to 7:30 PM nightly.

Remembering Kobe Bryant and his iconic sneaker collaboration with Nike

It’s around this time last year that the world woke up to the shocking news that Kobe Bryant had passed on. A legend in the basketball world, Kobe was often referred to as the Black Mamba for his stealthy style and powerful strike… a distinction that even made it into his sneaker collaboration with Nike over the Nike x Kobe ‘Fade To Black’ series.

Today, on the anniversary of his passing, we look at one of the most memorable sneakers from the collaboration, the Nike Zoom Kobe 3 “FTB”. The sneakers come encased in a box that sports the scales of a snake, pointing directly at the Mamba reference. Underneath the box lid are two white shoes that would complement Kobe’s black uniform beautifully, and a reverse diamond 3D texture that has an incredible allure when looked at against direct light. The texture continues on the entire upper surface of the shoe, making it even to the sole, with only a hint of a black panel at the base, paying tribute to the Black Mamba. The shoes, which are available in white and metallic grey, debuted in 2016 around Kobe’s retirement. One would argue that they look just as incredible even today!

The Ferrari F40 gets an unofficial, unbelievable revival!

The one thing that drew me to a profession in design was the absence of boundaries. You had the ability to create practically anything your heart desired, and that ability to create was encouraged. If, for instance, you wanted the Ferrari F40, a car that’s practically a hallmark in supercar history, to be revived, you could do it yourself. The F40 had a limited run from 1987 to 1992, and never saw an official revival, although fans all around the world fondly remember the iconic piece of automotive beauty.

A die-hard fan of the original F40, designer Samir Sadikhov took it upon himself to build a new variant, exploring Ferrari’s current styles and merging it with the F40’s original design to create a timely evolution. The F40 Tribute, as Samir calls it, captures the original F40’s flavor, while including a modernized blocky rectangular wing, side intakes, and vertically oriented triple exhaust — all of which were original to the 1987 supercar. Sadikhov went on to build the interiors too, with leather upholstery and carbon-fiber paneling. Even the dashboard gets a revamp with its future-friendly interface and racing-style wheel. The level of detail gone into the passion project is practically mind-boggling for something that’s essentially a fan-concept, but I imagine that if Ferrari were to revamp the F40, it should definitely take some cues from this incredible tribute!
