A LEGO Jeopardy! Kinetic Sculpture Built in Tribute to Alex Trebek

We all pay our respects in our own way, and LEGO builder and YouTuber Douglas Hughes decided to construct this kinetic Jeopardy! sculpture in honor of the late, great Alex Trebek. Featuring contestants Ken Jennings (most wins), Brad Rutter (most money won), and James Holzhauer (most records), the figures move and buzz in, complete with light effects. I’ll take Best Gameshow Host Of All Time for $1,000, Alex.

The methods of how Douglas was able to achieve the desired movement from the characters with minimal moving parts is pretty clever, which he shows at the end of the video, and discusses in detail in his build diary available on Bricknerd. I wish I had that sort of ingenuity, but I’m just happy if I remember to put my socks on before my shoes.

A fitting tribute to Trebek for sure. Me? I’ll pay my respects to Alex the only way I know how: continuing to yell completely wrong answers at the television from 7:00 to 7:30 PM nightly.

Harry Potter Ultimate Trivial Pursuit: Trivias Pursuitas!

I was late to the Harry Potter series, only having watched the movies few years back. I’ve never read the books and am certainly not a Potter maven, but I thought the entire realm was interesting. I do like trivia, and thanks to my vast stores of useless knowledge I do quite well. Still, I would suck at this particular trivia game.

This Harry Potter Ultimate Trivial Pursuit board game has 1800 questions about the films. The categories for the game include Slytherin House, Death Eaters and The Dark Arts; Objects & Artifacts; Animals, Magical Creatures and Magical Beings; Witches, Wizards, Ghosts and Muggles; Hogwarts, Other Locations and Transportation; and Spells, Potions and Other Magic.

Among the sample questions on display: “What does Albus Dumbledore bequeath to Harry?” and “Which spell does Hermione use to unchain the Gringotts dragon?” I have no idea. Yep, you had better know your Potter lore, or be in for a serious beatdown in this game. Potter fans can grab it over at ThinkGeek for $49.99.

“When In Rome” Board Game Uses Amazon’s Alexa to Enhance Gameplay

Board game companies are always looking for new ways to incorporate technology into their games, and one board game maker is hoping that the incorporation of Amazon’s Alexa will mean huge sales. When In Rome is a new board game from manufacturer Sensible Object. While playing the game, Alexa will explain the rules, keep score, and ask trivia questions.

The game sounds pretty simple. Players sit around a world map, and each places their marker on a “home city” to start. Then they travel around the map to other major cities. As your marker enters each city, Alexa asks you questions about that city’s weather, customs, food, culture, and more. You earn points by answering questions correctly.

So it’s basically a trivia game that might sell a few more Amazon devices. Plus, now the NSA can keep track of who the trivia master is in your house. It’s a win for everyone. Seriously though, this might be a fun game. I can’t wait until we get a Settlers of Catan Alexa game. Alexa, I’ll trade you a sheep for a brick. “Sorry, only suckers trade in this game”.

When In Rome will cost justs $30, but you’ll also need an Alexa device if you don’t already have one.
