This space-saving TV unit doubles as a cozy home for your beloved cat!

Pets infuse a new spurt of energy into your dull life, and they deserve all the love and comfort one can shower them with. Sure it’s one thing bringing home the most lavish pet furniture but how about what the pet is actually craving? A cat for example – always looking to hide in the vantage corners of the home or finding a cozy spot behind the clutter of your home entertainment system. So what you think of as a stress-free environment for them might actually be a case where they can benefit from some mindfulness idea.

Industrial designer Jong Hoon Yoon from Seoul, Korea pondered over the unique idea of thinking from a pet’s perspective and designing an intuitive TV stand. Christened “With”, the space-saving TV unit doubles as a cozy spot for your cat to never let go of. All this while being considerate of the kind human too. Yes, With considers the positioning of the cat and the fellow human, so that they both are in their comfort zone and don’t bother each other. For us, the TV is a mere source of entertainment as well as lousy around on our couch binge-watching streaming content. On the other hand, the heat produced from the TV and the accompanying electronics is an opportunity for your pet to curl up and enjoy in their own space.

Identifying these scenarios, Jong penned this interesting TV stand design with a piped design to remove bulkiness while still having enough space for the cat on the back to find a home. The backside of the panel has three sections that each serve a purpose for the cat to explore at will. The top panel gives the feline a vantage spot to keep an eye on things, the middle section is for hiding, and the bottom section acts as a cozy warm space to rest and sleep. Keeping in mind the safety of the loved pet, there are fabric mats in various colors. Toy accessories can be attached to the piped structure to keep your furry friend sharp and active via play.

In a way, this clever home accessory creates harmony between you and your pet without having the need to go buy extra pet furniture that can take up space. It about sharing each other’s lifestyle and living happily ever after!

This conceptual rollable tv solves the one issue with other rollable TVs

Rollable TVs are not new, they definitely make our walls look cleaner but you know what they still continue to do like their traditional predecessors? Occupy shelf space. I have lived in New York and let me tell you – if anything requires you to buy more furniture to support it, it’s not going to work because we don’t have space. What I could have really used during my time in the Big Apple would have been this small innovative solution, the conceptual Rollean TV that is built into a shelf BOOM! Rollable TV? Shelf? This shape-shifting appliance plays a double “roll”.

Unlike the retail industry scam of ‘built-in shelf’ bras, the Rollean TV has been truly designed on the idealogy of a built-in-shelf. This is genius for a couple of reasons, the first being you don’t have to spend more money on getting furniture to support your TV and second being the TV is actually able to support your things which would otherwise be strewn all over the place (like car keys, house keys, the keys to your future). This rollable TV concept blends with your interiors, it is minimal and sleek, unlike the usual TV stands. You simply roll out the screen when you watch to binge Netflix and slide it back to turn it into a table – ninja skills!

You can lean it against a wall and roll the screen down or if you have existing furniture but don’t like the bulkiness of your TV, simply rest it on the shelf and pull the screen up, no bending required. When not being used, only a part of the TV remains exposed and shows the time which means its not just a table, it is a smart table that will fit within any interior setting. Its unobtrusive, modern, and space-saving, almost like it was made for urban dwellers who are craving for a flexible lifestyle and space (pun intended!).

An Attention-Stealing Television!

cube_tv_stand_layout

Over the years the television has become more and more of a centerpiece within the room, its presence is almost a given and their often-vast size and bold design makes them hard to ignore. So why not draw more attention to it?

The Cube is designed to do just this! As opposed to the television resting on a TV stand, the base of the large TVtakes its position! The geometric and angular form contrasts the smooth curve of the television and is designed to emulate a sculpture on its pedestal. Its lightly brushed finish features a dramatic gradient that breaks up the flat façade. The top face slightly protrudes out of the cube and a light gently illuminates the gaps, emphasizing the subtle feature.

The Cube sits on a narrower base, giving the impression that the whole assembly is elevated off the ground, giving it a surreal element of interest that
completes the striking design.

The cube’s chrome material reflects the surface around it, with black gradient at the top to make the frame look as though it floats over and fades into the plinth.

Here’s my TV, Deal with it.

People are often perplexed by where to place a TV. Most design-conscious users would prefer to hide it or at least have it blend in with other interior elements unnoticeably which, if overdone, can be an eyesore in itself. One of YD’s favorite designers, Fulden Dehneli, has created RøR – an entirely new way to place your TV and it puts your device on full display.

The minimalistic design is a bare-bones approach to TV mounting. Designed for the SamsungQLED TV Competition, it consists of a weighted structure that elegantly elevates your TV with a simplistic T frame. On the opposite end, a high, single shelf serves as a perfect perch for your favorite plant, picture frame, or lighting solution. It’s an aesthetically acceptable alternative to those TV-hiding-techniques that’s as sculptural as it is beautifully simplistic.

IKEA Uppleva HDTV to retail for $960 in Europe beginning next month, US launch in 2013

Image

Details continue to emerge as we approach the IKEA Uppleva's June launch. GigaOM has discovered that the set will be available in sizes ranging from 24 to 46 inches and will be priced "around $960" -- with a scale relative to the display size, we presume. The TV will feature a built-in Blu-ray player and a wireless subwoofer, and is being assembled by TCL Multimedia a manufacturer in China. Uppleva is expected to roll out to France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Sweden beginning next month, then to other European countries later in the year, followed by the US in 2013. There will also be a handful of applications that will vary based on region, including Dailymotion, Vimeo and YouTube, along with games, music playback and video-on-demand apps, and the Opera for TV web browser. There's a familiar sneak-peek vid awaiting you just past the break.

Update: Due to an error at the source article, we originally identified the manufacturer as TLC, rather than TCL Multimedia. The text above has been updated to reflect the correction.

More images and details emerge about Ikea's Uppleva

Did you not get enough Swedish furniture pr0n yesterday with the announcement of Ikea's Uppleva? Well, we've got a slew of new images and some new details for you. As far as specs, it seems that the sets will be available in 24, 36, 40 and 46 inches and all are LED backlit. They'll also all sport WiFi and "smart TV" features including the Opera browser -- except for the 24-incher, which must accept its role as the runt of the litter. The TVs will also come attached to three different TV bench designs in six different finishes. While we weren't able to score our own units yet, M3 did and you can check out their hands-on out at the source link.

IKEA puts away your TV cables, tech credentials

IKEA puts away your TV cables, tech credentials

If your abode has ever been touched by the space-saving hand of IKEA, you'll be familiar with its clever, wallet-friendly wares. Now, the Swedish furniture giant is bringing its quirky ideas into the technology market. Frustrated with cable spaghetti ruining the otherwise sharp lines of its TV storage units, the Scandinavian firm has taken it one step further, and built the TV right in to the furniture. Yup, "Uppleva" is an all-in-one TV and stand with storage built in co-operation with China's TCL Multimedia. Not only that, it also incorporates a Blu-ray / DVD player and surround sound (with wireless sub woofer.) Details on the TV itself are sparse, but there's a brace of USB inputs and four HDMI ports (so you can re-add in some wires), plus FM radio and internet connectivity, but beyond that we're left guessing. More importantly -- for the casual IKEA customer we assume -- will be the array of colors and designs it will ship in. The delivery man will be kicking up Autumn leaves by the time you can get your hands on one, with prices starting at 6,500 Swedish crowns (around $960). In the meantime you can unpack a video after the break, which just like those shelves you bought, doesn't seem to contain everything.
