These iPod Wallpapers for your iPhone give it a wonderfully retro-style Lock Screen!

22 years ago, Steve Jobs held in his hand what would quite literally be the turning point of his company. The iPod made its first debut in October 2001, and it’s difficult to picture what Apple would look like without it. Such has its cultural effect been on society that if you’re a millennial with an iPhone, chances are you probably owned (or tried desperately to convince your parents for) an iPod. However, if you missed that boat (or even if you just miss having an iPod right now), Oliur and Shane Levine’s wallpapers have you absolutely sorted. The iPod Wallpapers Pack turns your iPhone lock screen into a makeshift iPod with the popular music player’s display conveniently showcasing the date and time as well as your iPhone lock screen widgets. No, it won’t control music playback. Yes, we wish it did!

Retro Macintosh Theme with icons gives your MacBook a vintage 1984 Apple vibe!

Sure you can have an M1 chip inside your Apple machine, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be old school!

Aptly titled OS (which stands both for operating system as well as old school), this wallpaper and icon pack from Ben Vessey gives your bleeding-edge MacBook or iMac a nifty retro appeal. Back in 2021, Vessey made a similar set of icons for the iPhone that used Apple’s ‘Shortcuts’ workaround to let you make bespoke shortcuts for operations on your phone. The OS extends this same vintage appeal to the Mac machines too, with the original ‘hello’ wallpaper from the 1984 Mac, and a pack of 166 matching vintage icons for all your common software and apps.

Designer: Ben Vessey

Vessey’s OS comes in both dark as well as light themes, depending on which look you’re going for. Each pack includes 5 dynamic macOS wallpapers in 6k, so the wallpaper doesn’t pixelate on even your high-end iMac displays.

Most of Vessey’s painstaking work can be seen in the individual app icons he designed for all the popular apps. Sure, Apple’s own apps got a vintage makeover, but Vessey had to make vintage versions of almost every conceivable software/app ever as well as for extensions and folders. You can view some of his work below.

Once you change the wallpaper, applying the icons is easy using an external client like IconChamp (not included with the pack). Vessey’s pack, however, does include icon files for the Mac as well as for Windows, should you choose to give your non-Apple machine a makeover! You can buy the OS (Old School) – Silver pack on Vessey’s website for £5.99 ($7.49), or splurge on the Gold pack for £49.99 which also includes 5 custom icons of your choice.

These iPhone wallpapers automatically change to reflect your phone’s battery level!

Using a clever technique hidden within Apple Shortcuts, Ben Vessey’s dynamic wallpapers for the Apple iPhone have the quirky ability to reflect your phone’s battery level. For now, the wallpapers have three stages – Full Battery, Low Battery, and Charging.

You may remember Vessey’s work from a while ago when he debuted the retro iOS icon collection that turned your state-of-the-art smartphone into the ultimate Apple throwback machine. Having worked with Shortcuts before, Vessey’s latest experiment turns your wallpaper into a massive battery indicator. With beautifully designed artworks, these wallpapers alter as the battery level changes, telling you when it’s time to juice up.

The Dynamo packs (which are available on Vessey’s website for £3.99) come in two styles with 3 wallpapers each – one containing Apple-inspired artwork, and another with quirky cartoon faces. You can easily install them using Apple Shortcuts (no jailbreak required) on iPhones 6S and beyond. Once installed, the dynamic wallpapers aren’t just about being a quirky little easter-egg… they even help you know when to plug your charger in and when not to. The low-battery wallpaper kicks in when your battery’s at 20%, reminding you that it’s a good time to charge. Now if only there was a dynamic wallpaper that helped me know whether I’m connected to a WiFi network or whether my phone’s running on carrier data!

These biodegradable takeaway containers are molded from recycled cocoa beans!

The food takeaway business is estimated to be a $53 billion-a-year industry and given the unique circumstances humanity is in, it’s probably set to grow even further at a rapid pace. PriestmanGoode aims at tackling the inherent problems within the takeaway culture with sustainable food packaging that’s molded from a bio-composite containing recycled cocoa bean waste.

Created as a part of the Wallpaper* Re-Made project, these bio-composite containers are modeled to look like bento-boxes with a modular design that stacks up as your order increases, resulting in one larger box rather than multiple smaller boxes. This unique format provides a useful alternative to plastic containers (as it’s waterproof and leakproof too) and eventually reduces components by removing elements like lids (since the containers stack over and cover each other). Materials used to craft the packaging meet a range of criteria too, being heatproof, lightweight, recyclable, and insulating. The bio-composite polymer used to mold the containers themselves are made from cocoa-bean shells (a by-product of the cacao industry) by designer Paula Nerlich. The outer bag that carries the containers is made from all-natural materials too, including mycelium to insulate the interiors, a bioplastic known as Nuatan to provide a robust outer shell, a natural leather derived from pineapple leaves called Piñatex for the outer container’s lid, and Lexcell, a neoprene-free natural rubber used for the handles and straps on the bag and the Bento containers.

PriestmanGoode’s design solution tackles the massive problem of single-use plastic packaging that’s plaguing our environments and oceans. It provides an all-natural, biodegradable solution to plastic boxes and cling-film wrappers, while also utilizing natural waste materials like cacao shells in the process. I’d argue that it looks a million times better too!

LucasFilm Posts Official Star Wars Meeting Background Images

With everyone doing video conferences to keep in touch these days, we’re getting a look into everyone’s homes. If you don’t want people to see how much of a slob you are, or just don’t want them to see your stuff, a good virtual background can come in handy. While you could go with a relaxing beach scene or a mountain range, I think these Star Wars backgrounds are much better.

LucasFilm recently released more than 30 different backgrounds, optimized for software like Zoom and Microsoft Teams. The collection includes everything from the wispy skies of Cloud City, to the destroyed ruins of the Death Star. I’ve been doing most of my meetings inside of the Millennium Falcon, with an occasional sunset visit to Jakku.

You can download all of the free backgrounds over on the StarWars website. They also make great wallpaper for your computer screen.
