A Turntable-Infused Lamp

record_lamp_layout

Inspiration can be taken from anywhere, and this can lead to beautiful designs that are both unique and visually interesting! This is certainly the case with Record Lamp, that, as the name would suggest, takes its inspiration from the humble record player.

Not only does it take visuals from a record player and use them to create a product worthy of a place in an art museum, but the designer has also adapted the interaction element to create a fluid user experience; the lamp is turned on by moving the light bar towards the center of the disk, the disk can then be rotated to adjust the brightness of the light to suit the user’s needs.

Visually, the light is striking. From the way that the base intersects the disk adding an element of suspense, through to the monochromatic color scheme that ensures for a bold contrast between each aspect of the lamp. Stunning.

50 Shades of Day

基本 RGB

Whether you’re aware of it or not, you are constantly aware of the time in large part due to the position of the sun and the brightness outside… not just because you can look down at your phone or watch! This minimalistic clock takes inspiration from this concept and reinforces hour and minute hand time-telling with a shade changing face.

As it grows darker outside, so does the saturation of the clock face. Simultaneously, the hands transition to the opposite, becoming lighter so they maintain visibility. Its clean, monochromatic aesthetic is soothing and easy on the eyes while the arms cast a shadow on the clock face complimenting the ambient light.

The greatest lamp since sliced bread!

bread_lamp_1

Bread is quite an inspirational piece of food. It lends itself to almost any cuisine. However, saying that bread is inspirational to Lighting Design sounds a little strange, yet the Bread lamp by Yicong Lu does a pretty solid job of looking like a lamp inspired by a loaf of bread.

The lamp is quirky at its core, but somehow strangely comforting to look at. Individual slices of light move up and down, thereby increasing and decreasing the intensity of the lamp. There’s nothing more to this simple and adorable concept…and there doesn’t need to be!
