PlayStation Mod Turns Console Into Final Fantasy VII Tribute

PlayStation Final Fantasy VII Console by MakoMod image 1

Spanish modder MakoMod is taking us back to the industrial city of Midgar with his console ode to Final Fantasy VII.

The seminal Square-Enix role-playing game appeared on the PlayStation in 1997, so it would only make sense for MakoMod to transform the Sony gaming machine into an incredible miniature of the game’s central setting.

Everything is gosh darn spot-on here. Heck, even a downer like Cloud would crack a smile at Mako’s work. The mini-FFVII Midgar has glowing lights that recreate the look of the town in-game, and you can even identify specific in-game locals like Aerith’s church and the train station, which was the opening scene to Final Fantasy VII.

Over at MakoMod’s blog and Facebook page, you can check out more pictures of their PSone Final Fantasy VII console, some that even detail its entire assembly. Really shows how much great work went into this special mod. You can also find the other impressive console mods Mako has worked on in the past at his blog, too. Totally recommended.

Metroid’s Samus Helmet Replica Glows In The Dark

Metroid’s Samus Helmet Replica image 2

Prop shop Raptor With A Shotgun are giving you a chance to live your space bounty hunter dreams by selling an amazing replica of Samus Aran’s helmet.

A defining part of her armor, Samus’s helmet has always been one of the coolest things about the Nintendo protagonist. And on their part, RWAS has done a marvelous job in recreating it; they even added a glowing light to the green translucent visor that works superbly in both the day and night.

The helmet itself is made of sturdy, but light weight materials, weighing in at around 4-to-5 pounds and should be comfortable to wear for your long cosplaying sessions. The rest of Samus’s get up isn’t included though, but at least you’ll be starting off on right Space Jump Boot.

Right now Raptor With A Shotgun is selling their replica Samus helmet – there’s only one of them for sale, so act now! – for $400 USD through their official Esty store.

Nintendo Explains Nintendo 3DS System Data Transfer

Nintendo 3DS XL System Transfer image

The New Nintendo 3DS landed last Friday and for many making the fresh hardware jump it means that laborious task of transferring your precious system data.

Nintendo has provided a step-by-step process to ensure everything goes off without a snag, so that you’ll be soon on your way to enjoying your old digital games and saves on your new Nintendo 3DS XL.

Keep in mind that the new 3DS XL requires a microSD card for its storage (here’s a list of the ones Nintendo officially supports) and you’ll need to keep around your old 3DS to transfer your data between systems.

Reportedly, and not the ideal of solutions, some GameStop locations - not all – will allow you to take your new system home; complete the system data transfer; take back both existing and new systems to the GameStop you bought it, and get both the complete refund value and trade-in value for your purchase.

You’ll also need a #0 sized Philips screwdriver to remove the back panel of the new 3DS XL to install the 4GB microSD card that comes standard with each unit, which is locked behind two small screws. It’s also a good idea to make sure both systems have the most up-to-date firmware, too.

Another protip: Be gentle when removing said back panel. It’s on pretty snug tight, and while you might be eager to use something more appropriate to remove it, doing so might cause it to be damaged. Yeah, ouch. Nintendo recommends using the butt of a 3DS stylus to remove the panel. And yes, lots and lots of patience. Don’t fret, it will come off.

With that said, here’s the step-by-step video of the whole 3DS XL system transfer provided by Nintendo:

According to their Facebook, Bigboytoys HK appears to be planning for Ryu’s shryuken-wielding bestie Ken for their next T.N.C. figure. For now though, you can pre-order the Ryu figurine and all its awesome splendor through Japanese gaming import shop Play-Asia for $89.99 (USD), to be shipped out to customers sometime in March.

Amigurumi Pokémon Are Cute & Yours To Capture

Amigurumi Pokémon Pikachu by Johnny Navarro image

Here to grow your Pokédex database even larger are these absolutely cute amigurumi (a Japanese style of crocheting) Pokémon from Etsy user Johnny Navarro.

Johnny has an adorable little stable of Pokémon amigurumi to chose from of great quality that you will love to hug. Just look at them! How could you resist these tiny faces?!

There is, of course, the headlining staple of Pokémon faces, from Pikachu (although, sadly, at this moment is currently sold out), Charmander, Bulbasaur, and few more; Johnny even has a couple crocheted characters from the Digimon world if that also strikes your pocket-monster fancy.

For for $30 to $40 bucks each, every amigurumi requires 8-12 weeks for each one to be made and then delivered. Johnny makes each one made to order, which is a good sign of their quality. Be sure to head on over to Johnny’s deviantArt page to check out his entire selection of Pokémon amigurumi current and past, and don’t forget his Etsy shop too!

DualShock 3 Coffee Table Is For The Gamers & For The Living Room

PlayStation Controller Coffee Table image 2

With PlayStation celebrating its 20 anniversary, you might find yourself craving a little PlayStation love. So why not this DualShock 3 coffee table?

Furniture maker WoodCurve just recently sold this impressive 3/4″ Birch plywood-made coffee table of Sony’s signifying console controller that went for $3,000 USD. Yeah, pretty pricey. But truly a way to show how much you love PlayStation. Well, besides carving a large marble statue of SCE Worldwide Studio’s president Shuhei Yoshida.

Doesn’t hurt that this coffee table is a beauty, too. All the proper DualShock 3 buttons and symbols are well represented from below the custom cut 1/2? tempered glass top, and on side, WoodCurve has even included a neat storage area for your stuff – games, accessories, and yes, even a PlayStation console.

As a complete package, this DualShock 3 coffee table not only makes a statement, but is a functional piece of furniture for any living room. It’s just a shame the only one of its kind just got bought. Perhaps if there’s enough demand, WoodCurve will build more. Here’s hoping!

Club Nintendo Coming To An End In September

Club Nintendo image

Club Nintendo will be no more when autumn arrives, says Nintendo. Current members will have until until September 30 to spend their remaining rewards points.

If you don’t, well then say goodbye to them forever when the rewards program ends later in the year.

Shifting the eventual closure into motion, Nintendo will not be shipping Club Nintendo points with the launch of the New Nintendo 3DS in North America & Europe on February 13, and from April onwards, the same applies to upcoming Nintendo games on Wii U or 3DS.

Here’s how Nintendo is scheduling the closing of Club Nintendo for this year:

Club Nintendo Discontinuation Schedule

April 1st 2015: From this date, Nintendo will no longer include product registration cards with its packaged games, so such products cannot be registered in Club Nintendo. You may still find product registration cards in games that were in stock before this date, however.

April 20th 2015: Termination of the registration of digital products downloaded from Nintendo eShop. Digital products obtained from Nintendo eShop after this date will no longer appear in the My Registered Games & Systems page in Club Nintendo. In addition, surveys for download software titles will no longer be available.

September 30th 2015: End of Club Nintendo program. All Club Nintendo features, such as signing up as a new member, logging in as a registered member, earning Stars, and exchanging Stars for items from the Stars Catalogue will no longer be possible from this date.

According to Nintendo, the company will be rolling out a new rewards program around the same time of Club Nintendo’s closing. Nintendo did not fully specify what that initiative would be, only that those who do sign up at its start will be gifted Flipnote Studio 3D for the Nintendo 3DS.

Club Nintendo began in 2007, and since then has rewarded members with a variety of exclusive goods, such as SNES Wii Classic Controllers, Super Mario Bros. statues, and perhaps one of its most best items, Doc Louis’s Punch-Out!!, a neat little spin-off title of 2009′s Punch-Out!! (Nintendo Wii) that has never been released outside the elite gates of Club Nintendo.

It will be super interesting to see what Nintendo has planned to replace Club Nintendo in the fall. Perhaps a system that is more directly tied to Nintendo IDs? We shall see.

Mad Catz Introduces Hybrid Game Controller L.Y.N.X. 9

LYNX9 folded image

Mad Catz’ latest gaming peripheral looks more Optimus Prime or Megatron than your typical third-party controller, but that is exactly its selling point.

Revealed at this month’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the L.Y.N.X. 9 is a hybrid game controller for both PC and Android devices that can change its practical form, almost like the transforming robots of cartoon and film fame.

With a few simple arrangements, the L.Y.N.X. 9 can change from its compact, easy-to-travel-with form, to fit a wide range of situations.

Need a fully-sized gaming controller for your PC, with dual analog sticks, shoulder buttons, and the works? The L.Y.N.X. 9 can do that. How about an attachable controller for your tablet or smart phone that can give you the best of portability and control input? The L.Y.N.X. 9 can do that too, and with ease. So long pesky on-screen touch controls.

The L.Y.N.X. 9 promises to be a “no-compromise, full-size controller experience” that “will work with pretty much anything.” And from what is included with the L.Y.N.X. 9, Mad Catz means it. They’ve also built in a small track pad and an in-built mic to the controller, and for situations that call for texting, a keyboard module that snaps into the bottom.

Mad Catz plans on release the L.Y.N.X. 9 sometime in 2015, and at an interesting price. $299. Expensive, yes; much so than any current third-party controller out on the market. But if the L.Y.N.X. 9 is superb in function, it might attract the high-end gaming consumer that’s looking for something to bridge the gap in all their input needs, both on the couch and on-the-go.

New Wave Of Nintendo’s Amiibos Headed To North America

Super Mario Bros. Amiibo image

The next two months will see a fresh collectable batch of Nintendo’s tap-and-interact figures coming to the states.

Prepare your wallets for a new installment of Amiibo figures, which are coming their way to North American retailers on in the next two months.

Already a huge success, with particular figures being immensely popular and already quite hard to find, Nintendo is furthering their latest toy-making efforts by pushing out a new third-wave wave of their Super Smash Bros. line of Amiibos that are coming in February.

They’re also introducing a new line of Amiibos based Super Mario Bros. series, which debut March 20.

The Super Mario Bros. Amiibo line includes the the first-ever Toad Aiimbo, who can be used in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker for the Nintendo Wii U to unlock a special pixel Toad character for players to find.

All figures, of course, will bring their own effect for certain titles: In the upcoming Mario Party 10 for Wii U (also available on March 20), players can use either the Super Smash Bros. line or the newly announced Super Mario Bros. line of aiimbos to bring that character into the game in Aiimbo Mode and activate a special character-themed board.

First Ever Pong Pedestrian Walk Sign Installed In Germany

ActiWait image 1

An arcade classic gets reintroduced as a novel way to entertain and help keep pedestrians safe at one German crosswalk.

Pong was one of the first arcade games to popularize the coin-operated entertainment industry and help make the likes of all arcade machines a common sight at every pizza parlor, movie theater lobby, and shopping mall across the country.

Perhaps the famed electronic table-tennis game can do the same for an invention just newly installed for official public use.

It’s called ActiWait, an interactive walk sign that allows pedestrians on either side of the crosswalk to happily partake in a round of Pong while waiting for the signal to change. Sandro Engel, Amelie Künzler and Holger Michel, three design students from Hawk University in Göttingen, Germany, Sandro Engel, unveiled the idea for the ActiWait in 2012, and were on hand to witness their invention being formally introduced in the city of Hildesheim, Germany.

Two ActiWaits were set up in Hildesheim two weeks ago, and the trio behind the invention have turned to Indiegogo to help further its development. The inventors want to improve the ActiWait to include new ways to help pedestrians from inadvertently entering the crosswalk, including other games, a news feed, or a navigation helper.
