The literal opposite of Black-tie!

lumen_tie_1

Young designer Darius Kuddo has figured out how to dress formal, casual, and flamboyant all at the same time! Lumen-tie is a Bluetooth controlled tie that has an LED matrix on it which can be programmed via your smart-phone or smart-watch. Pop the tie on, punch in your desired setting, and you’ll be the talk of the town! The tie with its array of 100 LEDs is sure to outshine the fanciest of clothing at any party you attend! 💡

If the fact that you had disco-lights hanging off your collar wasn’t cool enough, the Lumen-tie also has an inbuilt microphone, which allows the LEDs to ‘dance’ like an equalizer, using external sound! The tie also keeps you entertained by allowing you to play games like Tetris on it, literally making it the coolest piece of clothing you’ll ever own until the Iron Man suit becomes a reality… Tempted, aren’t you?? Well, aren’t we all!

Guy Builds a 200-Watt Laser Bazooka

Drake Anthony aka “styropyro“ is truly a mad scientist. Why you ask? Because he recently created a 200-watt laser bazooka. Just to give you an idea of the power that he is harnessing, a typical laser pointer is .005 watts, and even the most most powerful handheld lasers out there are just 3.5 watts. This is the Death Star of lasers.

His bazooka was built from scrap metal, a pile of broken ‘hybrid’ DLP projectors, and a focusing lens, and it runs on a stack of lithium polymer batteries. He has to wear a specially made welders mask when he uses it because it would basically fry his face and melt his eyes.

Here he shows the gun shooting through a computer case, igniting titanium infused gunpowder, blasting through balloons, and more. The intensity of this beam is truly terrifying. It’s amazing that just recording this thing on video didn’t destroy his video camera’s sensor.

Senior Social-networking

senior_chat_1

While the possibilities of Senior Chat are diverse enough to change communication as we know it, I’ll speak purely from the design intent point-of-view. The Senior Chat allows elderly people who are cooped up at home to converse with one and another. Simply put, it’s instant messaging, done in a way that retains the older ways of communication while allowing technology to do its thing. One simply writes a letter and scans it, sending it out anonymously to all the other people using Senior Chat. Pull the rope on the device and your received letter prints out in all its hand-written glory. More like a bulletin board at home, the Senior Chat allows elderly people who feel lonely to converse with each other in a way that seems comfortable to them, but still manages to retain an element of surprise and awe!

Now imagine being able to maintain a tiny, exclusive social network among your close friends with the Senior Chat! That’s my personal prediction for the future of this novel little device!
